Summary
Mark Koernke discussed his recent acquisition of a large collection of historical books from an auction, including rare first editions and pre-1900 texts on American history, political science, and engineering. He highlighted discoveries about Alexander Hamilton, John Jay, and treaty negotiations following the American Revolution, and noted discrepancies in Bible translations before and after 1955. The show featured extensive discussion of small arms reference materials, particularly Smith's Small Arms of the World publications, and provided detailed guidance on firearm maintenance, assembly, and historical military ordnance documentation. Koernke also announced upcoming projects including second-generation attack vehicles designed by Captain Monahan, the Jim Monahan Annual Antique Engine Fest, and a night vision project for weapon systems.

Real quick, this is a sidebar, but this weekend somebody in the area had an auction. Always at the end of the auction people buy a lot and whatever is in the lot on a pallet then they don't take most of it or they don't take some of it. Don, I'm just going to tell you guys, this is why you do not assume. Well, I don't have a top, but I didn't see anything exciting me. I moved myself, Nancy, and at one point or another the boys helped to move probably about a pallet and a half of books that were in cases. At the bottom of this pile, had I gotten frustrated, and by the way I got all kinds of cool history books out of this, and we're going to be reading some quotes. You know I found a text from the 1800s that actually states that when the treaty was taking place, when they were actually over there when John Jay was overseas for the treaty for the end of the American Revolution, Has anybody ever heard about Alexander Hamilton being stoned? No kidding. Interestingly enough, out of the blue, and I had just been talking about Hamilton because we found something in another book, here's this old text back before the teachers and the Federal Reserve had a chance to manipulate everything pre-1900. Lo and behold, it talks about how effigies of John Jay were being burned in the streets. Hamilton was stoned and people were saying bad things about the president of the congress. Uh-oh, because everybody wanted to see what's in that treaty that they've all of a sudden were owing money to the crown. We just beat the snot out of them. And one of the reasons everybody had a problem with that, guys, is because when you're the winner, you don't pay war reparations. Period. And yet somebody really mucked up on that one. So anyway, that was one of the reasons, but it's interesting. And again, this paints a different picture about the general attitude about Alexander Hamilton. And I've talked many times about this on the air. What people have been led to believe in different ways, like the Burr Hamilton duel. It wasn't over anything that had to do with a woman. throw that BS out the window. They just want to repaint history because in reality a lot of people knew what Mr. Burr was all about. Okay, just a little more on that. But here's the thing, Don. I'm excavating through this new group of books. And you know I've talked about a certain ring knocker author that was one of the 12 Wise Men. H.G. Wells. Well, Don, in the bottom of one of the boxes Well, the little mouse chew on one corner is a first edition printing of one of his sociology, his social science engineering books. And it is a first edition, and it's an original print, original strike. It's not a reproduction. It's not a copy for historical archives or library reference. It's an original. There are several other books, some from as far back as 1857, 1881, which when we were growing up that was a big deal. It was only 70 years earlier back in the 50s and 60s, you know what I mean? Now that's 100 plus years ago. I would say out of this collection, I think I picked up at least 30 some books, most of them political science, and many of them with some very interesting comments in them that were more than 100 years old. In fact, I've got one in my hands right now. It is Lives of the Presidents of the United States. Let me give you an idea. The youngest, the most recent president in this text is Theodore Roosevelt. Wow. It is interesting because in its day, this was probably a school text for grade school, but by today's standards, this little text would actually be a college text. Yeah, that's really sad. It's a fact too, guys. It's interesting, but just a point. Do not assume anything. You go through everything. I got a whole series of engineering texts, aerospace engineering, let's see, nuke physics, all kinds of stuff. And guys, I don't throw any of that away. I have an extensive library in all of the sciences for a reason. I love sitting down. I know it sounds. Sitting down and going through this stuff. It's fun. Especially since you never know what you're going to find that they try to take out of the books because they don't really want you to have that kind of knowledge anymore. You know what I mean? Or Williams. Yes, right up. Even with Bibles, it's like that. It's interesting we've been kind of sitting down with Bibles and going over different strikings of what's supposed to be the same text. It's amazing what you'll find missing before 1955 or what was in place before 1955 and what's missing after 1955. I don't have to do that. Oh yes, we have a vast collection of text in that category and it's really interesting we were doing it today and sure enough we found whole words changed and some whole sentences missing. Ain't that special? I mean, I would seem to me that it's not hard to be consistent with a Bible. Most paragraphs of the Bible and you'll find out there's a special place for people who do things like that. Oh yes. So anyway, again, when you see books, especially if they look tired and old, Now, you know the difference between something that's got to not be beat out of it because it's an adventure, like girl novel or something. You mean an old text that's actually something that was obviously built for another period, another era? Always look. You never know what you're going to find. This is probably the best example. I'm totally satisfied. 99% of what we've pulled back is going to be kept and has already been... I already spent part of the day re-categorizing. It's been a long day because we've been run, run, running, you know, non-stop to get this stuff done. It's not the only thing we've been doing as everybody knows too. But just a reminder, don't assume. Take the time and investigate. Look at everything. Let me give an example. Somebody didn't think there was any ammunition in this auction. There was you get my drift there was there was yeah there was and they left it behind two guys On top everything else didn't even bother to you know really investigate Obviously had their eyes fixed on something else. They didn't open up certain things or even look around and lo and behold There was so always when you've got the time just be patient take a look Other things real quick with this is weapons Wednesday remember There are a number of different projects that are happening. We mentioned this in the afternoon hours. MON is looking at weapons production in its state, specifically controlled, well, not so much controlled, but it will be sanctioned, authorized, and protected by the state. This is one of many actions taking place simultaneously that are going to be lines in the sand challenging the Soviets in Washington. Interestingly enough, and this is in the Federalist Papers by the way, but it's also in the Anti-Federalist Papers. Oh, and by the way, I've got a set of those in this book collection too, Don. Another one for somebody to use will have extras for classes. Anyway, one of the things that was mentioned is that everybody should beware for this government could maintain the trappings and the veneer of the intent of the framers. yet be completely hollow or changed and altered to the point where it has nothing to do with and violates completely the intent of the framers of the Constitution and Bill of Rights of these United States. That's where we are today. That's what we're looking at. Everybody in the plastic page. I've already heard this with a few people that are now being made to think. They actually had to stop and step back. Osema Bemmedingdong is a Soviet. He's been a Soviet. He'll always be a Soviet. But the thing is, all the characters running with him and even the one running against him are pro-Soviet. Make no mistake about it. Now, that means that these characters are dictators slash totalitarian. There is going to come a point at which we are going to be facing off against this aggressor. I do not want to hear panic. I do not want to hear dismay. Instead, we have a job to do. I like that line, people are going to have to do what they are going to have to do. That's a good way to put it because that is exactly where we are. As men of the West, we have an obligation to be armed as best we can and to be skillful in the trade, one of many. But to be generalists, in other words, to be true, well-rounded patriots, we must be as capable of building and just as capable of defending. you know you can shout stop or I'll shout stop again and watch to see whether or not your enemy hesitates. Stop you savage, stop. Now for this reason you need to have a working knowledge of how things work and I will try to find a reference text in the used bookstores. You may find some stuff in the newer stores but you're spending a lot more money and Mark's trying to give you solutions. Smith's Small Arms of the World. Smith's Small Arms of the World. small arms of the world. Jane's publications are good, but if you can find some of the Smith's small arms of the world, they were generated every year. They were done in the 50s, 60s, and 70s, and then sporadically through the 80s. I haven't seen the most recent ones to see if Smith's are still being printed, but what's cool about the Smith's small arms text is that every year down they encompass every arm that every military carries across the planet. Even if it's redundant, in other words, let's say Guatemala has M16A2s. Of course, we know that. They identify the model and the type, who made them, and they show demonstrated black and white, very crisp, very clean, silver type copies of all of the arms carried by every one of the respective nations. In some cases, they make their own. Amazingly enough, the Dominican Republic was one that always fascinated me. They made their own variant, a carbine type variant, but not a carbine. It took 30 carbine magazines. It was a totally different stock, a different action, but it took advantage of US ammo and US magazines. They also made a 30 caliber rifle. They also made their own submachine gun. And this from a country that isn't that large, but certainly it obviously had some skilled labor involved. So, you never know what you're going to find. It's interesting to look to see what's still in service. Nothing is ever thrown away until it's just deemed that there's finally enough of the next generation up that they can phase it out, but they still don't throw it out. They usually sell it if they're smart. So, you're going to find an inventory list to identify what each of your threat aggressor forces are going to be carrying. But another cool thing about Smith's small arms is that they also give backgrounds and histories of the different factories or they cover specific manufacturing processes. How do we make that Irma submachine gun? Why, let me show you the step by step production. my library. But there is no need for that because it was all photographed and recorded by the Ordnance Department. It actually shows step by step what the Department of Defense did to create the M1 Garand caskets that were holding in Strategic Reserve virtually brand new or almost unissued, in other words very, very new in service, M1 Garands that were put into Strategic Reserve. It showed the dipping processes, it showed how they were wrapped, and everything was very, very crisp, excellent photography on heavy gauge enamel paper. Every plate was half a page or a full page in size. If not, if it was individual little steps, there was a close up, and then they showed the progressive steps, but very clean photography. This is the kind of stuff we're talking about, how to build the Sten gun, how it was originally produced in factory. Even though, again, most of the parts, as they kept pointing out, came from other little workshops. Read that every garage in England. What they would come in with is they would have a little Henry Ford production line, Dom, and then all the parts that came in from Grandma's workshop and Fred's workshop and Dom's garage and Bill's backyard shed. All those parts were brought in by barrels and boxes or whatever and they were stacked up in the inventory and then they started building Sten guns at $2.75 a piece. Now guys, if they can do that, I am sure that we can do the same except here's the thing. You don't have to build the mag that matches what was being used at the time, although Sten gun mags are still very cheap. Consider this, it's like the Volksurm rifles that were made at the end of World War II, two models, VG1 and the VG2. Today you would make them using AR-15 or AK-47 magazines. Air magazine everywhere, Don. So wouldn't it make sense? You'd make it in .223. You wouldn't make it in 8mm curves. Unless you wanted to go into the business of making magazines and plenty of them. That's right. So again, of course, you can still... That's a good point. Even though there are plenty of AR-15 mags available, Kel-Tec actually did that. With Kel-Tec's little... .223 rifles with the folding stock, they make their own 10 shot magazines. However, the rifle's standard mag that can easily be inserted into the magazine well is a regular M16 magazine. So there's an example. You can build mags all day and make them to spec and make them serviceable. And 10 rounders for obviously the politically correct states where you have to try to jump on one leg and pat your belly and rub the top of your head and try to do that in coordination. If you don't, you don't get whatever. Well, now that's why they made those mags. What's cool about the Kel-Tec is two 10-round mags or one 30-round mag fit right in the stock and will fold with the weapon so that it can be stored that way. So you can have a mag on the weapon or two 10 round mags on the weapon 24-7 ready to use. You grab the whole thing, pull it out of the storage point, fold down the stock, grab a mag, insert it into the well, and you're in business. Congratulations, you're on the road. So it's very cool. Anyway, information is the key here, guys. And by the way, I guess we'll give this out to Tom because we have enough time left here. I have done this before, but for all of you right now that are looking at maintaining your firearms, The number to call is Heritage Gun Books, VSP Publications. PO Drawer, not PO Box. Think about that, Don. This is the old like, hey, this is Petty Coach Hunter. Does this go onto a train? Yeah, PO Drawer, 887 McCall, Idaho, 83638. That's Heritage Gun Books, VSP Publications, PO Drawer, number 887. Call Call and say hi to Joe Rasco at 888-634-4104 and find out about the books that he has available. These are armory books for the Smith and Wesson Model 10, the 1911 A1. Which by the way, if you're going to do that kit, I would recommend getting this information. And before you even touch a file or a Dremel tool or whatever to the kit or to whatever you put together, I would watch all of the armory information that I can on maintenance and assembly of the 451911. Oh yes. This is where you go guys. He's got both tapes and he has books. So watch them and or at the very least get the text, read them and go through them and then, I think I was supposed to cut the other way perpendicular. Oh that's okay the 45 doesn't mind too much grinding. There you go. Okay. Anyway, you'll be doing it right because you've been following the instructions. And sneaking up on it. That's right. So, I think, Tom, it's not critical. The hole's only about a half inch deep and straight through the side wall of the slide. What do you think? Ah, what the heck? It was weight we didn't need anyway, right? Well, anyway, I tell you what's fun is there's a lot of other weapons covered. The H70, AK, AR, M1 Grand. M14, M1 carbine, all those are in here, people in one form or another. Find out what he has in the way of an inventory. Too much to mention here on the air right now. But one more time, give him a call tomorrow. It's a little, oh, yeah, it's too late tonight. It's 846 Eastern, so figure three hours difference. One more time, that's 888-634-4104, and that's VSP Publications, PO Drawer 887, McCall, Idaho, 836, 846, 846, 846, 846, 846, 846, 846, 846, 846, 846, 846, 846, 846, 846, 846, 846, 846, 846, 846, 846, 846, 846, 846, 846, 846, 846, 846, 846, 846, 846, 846, 846, 846, 846, 846, 8 Another thing, obviously, is to take advantage of FM's if you have any standard military arms people that you're using. And this can be any number of different weapons. Case in point is, remember, Uncle Samuel did maintenance log books, maintenance files. They did TMs. They had TC's, all for your weapons. Watch all the piles of stuff that are being done away with at surplus stores or maybe even at libraries. And everybody goes, huh? Yes, that's right. A lot of libraries have or had FM inventories. This was done a lot of times by guys who were either with VFW or at the request of them, or actually were brought in by somebody and donated. You'll find a lot of World War II text, which covers a lot of World War II ordnance. Everything from recoilless rifles to mortars to the M1 rifle, the Browning machine gun, which is still out there all over the place. and many other weapons systems. So it's a good idea to have those in stock. Working knowledge is critical. No, you may not have it in hand at this moment, but you may put it in your hands depending on how well you fight down the road. Wow, Don, look, another Browning M2. I wonder what we're going to do with that. Grandma Deuces, welcome on board. I say we put it right next to the other one on the Volkswagen Doom Buggy. No, they'd be a little heavy. Yeah, we better go get the other buggy and put it on that one. Okay, no problem. And by the way, Captain Monahan is here. Actually, we're out recovering some more hardware right now even as we speak, some more equipment. But we are almost ready to release the second generation of Jitneys slash attack buggies that he has designed. It's really fun. You'll see that we already have put it in a couple of the videos. Not the Black Doom Buggy that you see in the earlier training videos. But you'll notice in a combo of the other vids, a flat body. You'll see the guys are all wearing Kevlar. They've got the standard US military goggles and there's an M2 Modus on the roof. Now that one is an M151 modified with a number of different significant changes made in roll tube frames, etc. The next model, which of course the A model has already been done, which is a completely independent body, basically built in the same line as the 151, and it's already been in one or two of our videos. The second generation vehicle is pretty well perfected. The only thing we've got to do is a little bit of supplemental welding because we're adding on some fixtures for tools, Don. The same kind of tool we were just talking about, a browning tool. As soon as that's done, I've got an M60 battle wagon shield that's going to go on the roof and she'll be squared away. You will see that in one of the upcoming videos along with one of our little fleets of light mechanized. It's going to be a lot of fun to finish that up. Just a warning, we're going to have that out there. Everybody can see it. And we're looking at being able to produce a lot more. And this is a variable geometry vehicle designed to take advantage of whatever is laying around. That's critical to future combat assembly, especially for soft skin vehicles that are supposed to be throwaways. for as long as they run, they run just fine. But if something happens, you shoot them in the engine compartment the rest of the way, you'll get another boom, just like the old horse. Pull all the good stuff off it you're gonna need and leave around the side of the road. Guess what? We'll make more. That's right. Exactly. All the spare tires, make sure the batteries are gone. Everything that can be peeled off gets put on the next 10 vehicles in line, spread out weight-wise, so you don't even know that you lost it. There's a basic rule about smaller and more of it is what does a rat pack care if it loses one rat? Think about that. And that's how it's supposed to be. Remember the rat patrol? That's okay. Same concept only. A lot more rats usually were traveling around together. Boom, boom, boom. Click, click. Boom, boom, boom. Anyway, just a case in point there that that's an up and coming part of the future events. We hope to have this thing on display for the Jim Monahan annual antique engine show. So we will have that there and we need to remind everybody that that is around the corner a few months out, so more than a few months out. The point is that we want everybody to be ready for that because that's going to be expanded upon. Invitations are going out to a lot of other alternate energy people. We're going to have even more this next time around that we had the last. If you want to see what I'm talking about, go to Liberty Tree Radio on YouTube and then go to the Jim Monahan Annual Antique Engine Fest videos. There's two of them. Last year was the 25th annual and Edward did a great job with the camera work. You get to see some of the other stuff running around out there. There is also the year before that, the 24th is posted as you scroll back through the 54 videos that we have posted there from Liberty Tree Radio. It will be hard to check out what has been going on in the past and it is going to be bigger this year than even last year if everything goes well. We are going to need everybody's help in pitching and that. We want them to come down and have some fun, enjoy some boiled potatoes and corn, add some corned beef, hosh, mow, yes. It's a bunch of fine Irish guys who get together too by the way. Lots of cabbage and potatoes. So we'll be looking forward to having the announcement on that very shortly. Also, I've got to do this one more time. Oh, that's right. Before the girls go to bed. Also, I want to say hi to coordinate six, lateral 7.4, keeves two, space 5 4 8 for Alice and Jeanine that's for Alice and Jeanine and I want to say hi again and we want to say thank you for all the work you guys are doing with the Hallmark also coordinates to lateral 5.1 if billion 9 space to 1 8 we want to say thank you you guys are the latest crew as part of the march towards the Golden Spike event and so we've got to get that before the end of the day down weapons when these almost finished One last thing before we go you need to give all the information out and remind everybody we have this night vision project going on and it has to do with your weapon systems and weapon support Don go ahead Mark and you guys if you if you missed the five o'clock hour today back in the archives or purchased a month because it was really strong we had John Burt with 50 caliber Institute alarm of the 50 caliber shooters creation and if you missed that I'll try to get it through the eyes you need to hear it a Lot was set read every particular word with that in mind let's move forward here and this real quick I'm not certain of waiting Mark but you guys were rapid wide area if I you guys by the time the moon's going to work to the illuminator now we're going the gang here everybody liked so you need better again you guys if you want to well then nine six oh it's a matter of you know I hate to say use that might be like your role and it really helps this will become more common for you know dialed and I'm not trying to you know and even then I'm the guy who's a get well card if you can get a get well mark I yield the floor I think we're going to hear the music any moment now. the world order Collectors, outdoor enthusiasts, survivalists, the army-navy store from your memory as a child is just that on memory.
