A gentleman from New York is recognized. Mr. Speaker, I now yield one minute to the distinguished gentleman from Virginia, Mr. Connolly. Mr. Connolly is recognized for one minute. I thank the gentleman. We face two choices. today in this body. One is to protect our children, to protect our houses of worship, to protect where we shop, to protect when we watch a movie, from guns that exist for one purpose only, mass death inflicted efficiently. Or we can listen to the other art, which you've heard, enthrall to the gun manufacturers to protect them at any cost. and you as a citizen are collateral damage at the altar of the gun manufacturers and we will be bathed in blood forever. It is time to act. It is time to end the madness and disentral ourselves from automatic weapons that are mass killers. Yield back. Gentlemen, yields back. Mr. Nadler, reserves. Reserve. Mr. Jordan reserves, Mr. Nadler is recognized. Mr. Speaker, I now yield one minute to the distinguished majority leader of the House, the gentleman from Maryland, Mr. Hoyer. Mr. Hoyer is recognized for one minute. Thank the gentleman for yielding. This is, of course, an emotional debate. Some have talked about fear, and they instill fear in the process. As Mr. Nadler has pointed out, no weapons are taken away. A number of members on the other side of the aisle have gotten up and said this is an unconstitutional bill. Yet, from 1994 to 2004, that bill was tested in the courts. Is that 20, Bennett? None of those courts found that unconstitutional. In the Heller case, which has been quoted over and over again, a very simple statement was made by that super liberal, Antonin Scalia. He said, like most rights, the rights secured by the Second Amendment is not unlimited. From Blackstone through the 19th century cases, commentators and courts routinely explained that the right was not a right to keep and carry any weapon whatsoever in any manner whatsoever for whatever purposes. One indication of that, of course, is that we have a ban on machine guns in America. Now one could answer, well, they're not in common use. That's correct, because they're banned. 67% of Americans support an assault weapon ban. 53% over half strongly support, and another 14% somewhat support, for a total of 67%. That's in a poll. on the morning consult on May 25th, 2022. There was another poll by Pew in September of 21 that said that 63% of Americans support. Both polls over 60% of Americans, over two-thirds of Americans think this action makes sense. I'm sure the founders, as they were discussing the Second Amendment, debated whether we ought to have mass rapid-fire weapons covered by the Second Amendment. They had no idea such weapons certainly didn't exist. And they acted within the framework of the times in which they lived. Mr. Speaker, Congress must take action today to protect all Americans from dangerous and deadly assault weapons. If we do so, we will still be the country who has the most weapons for capital in the world. You guys are listening to Liberty Tree Radio. We are up alive. Everybody's here. We're tuned in to the Gun & Gadget. They're live right now with the Assault Weapon Ban vote on the House 4. We're not going to do our normal opener. We're going to go back to this for a bit. And when Mark is ready, we'll switch over. The weapons that we're talking about. are able to kill large numbers rapidly. Used to kill six adults and 20 children at Sandy Hook. Used to kill 61 people in Las Vegas. Used to kill 19 students and two teachers in Uvalde, Texas just a few weeks ago. From Aurora to Orlando, San Bernardino to Buffalo, El Paso and Highland Park. They've been mentioned today, well mentioned on a regular basis, to remind us. We've watched assault weapons inflict mass destruction in our communities time and time and time again. Not only do these weapons claim the lives of innocent civilians, they frequently kill members of law enforcement who've worked to keep their communities safe. That's why law enforcement largely, not all of them, support this bill because they see that as one of the greatest dangers to their lives. Indeed, one study by the Violence Policy Center found that nearly a quarter of all the police officers killed in the line of duty between 2016 and 2017 were killed by the same firearms that would be outlawed under this ban. Those police officers killed by assault weapons, almost a quarter of them, were wearing body armor that was nevertheless penetrated by a bullet. These types of attack and police killings are not inevitable. We know there's a better way. We know that because these attacks became far less common when an overwhelmingly bipartisan coalition, overwhelmingly bipartisan coalition, this was not some democratic bill, it was a bipartisan bill. I'll speak more to that in just a second. Oh great. Came together in 1994 to pass a ban including 46 House Republicans. That measure had support from law enforcement and from both Democratic and Republican presidents, including Ronald Reagan. After Republicans were in control of Congress, they allowed that ban to expire in 2004. Mass shootings tripled. Tripled. Today I'm pleased to bring Mr. Sistolini's bill to the floor to reinstate American Sistol, reinstate, reinstate a bill that has been taken to the court already. This legislation would prohibit the possession of manufacture, sale and transfer of semi-automatic assault weapons in high capacity magazines. It does not take any of those away from any citizen. To be clear, we are not undermining the Second Amendment. I am for a person having the right to have a weapon, not only to hunt, but in his home, in his business, to protect himself and his family. And we're authorized to carry upon his person where offered up. This bill will not lead to confiscation of firearms notwithstanding the fear that has been expressed. Weapons that were legally purchased before it's enacted. However, it will set safety requirements. His minute identifies as 20. Doesn't that make sense? Have safety requirements for our cars. Doesn't it make sense to have safety requirements for weapons that can kill? Additionally, this legislation will provide funding for buyback programs for those who would prefer to be responsible neighbors of community members and relinquish their assault weapons voluntarily. But of course, our NRA friends have this slippery slope concept that anything we do, even banning cop killer bullets, goes too far because the next step and the next step and the next step. These common sense reforms will save the lives of law enforcement officers and innocent Americans across the country. The Speaker spoke, and we're going to bring an additional community safety legislation to the floor to support our police, because as much as the Republicans would like to say we Democrats are defunding the police, it is absolutely incorrect and false. And they know it. Why do they know it? Because we bring appropriation bills to this floor which fund the police. Not only at the national level, but at the state and local level as well. Which gives lie to the assertion that we are put. Are there some people who use that comment? Look in the mirror folks. Dude your time is up. Some people on your side of the aisle would say absurd things. There are many people on both sides of the aisle who say let's support and protect police This is a way to do it today We have an opportunity to put boats behind our words and show who is ready to do exactly that now I will hope my Republican friends and Democratic friends and my fellow Americans will listen to the quote that I'm about to get from a president that used to be revered on the Republican side of the aisle but is now not looked at as such a reverential figure. Ronald Reagan said this, listen to the American public and to the law enforcement community and support a ban on the further manufacture of these weapons. A moment of silence is not enough. I'm not sure, I should have counted how many moments of silence we have had on this floor this year. and lamented the loss of children and the elderly and everybody in between because of a weapon that is designed to kill a lot of people quickly. No more moments of silence. Let's act. Vote yes. Pass this bill. A gentleman from Maryland yields back. A gentleman from New York reserves. A gentleman from Ohio is recognized. Mr. Speaker, we haven't said the Second Amendment was unlimited. We quoted the Second Amendment. The Second Amendment, which the Supreme Court has said protects firearms in common use. 24 million Americans have these weapons out there. That is most certainly common use in the fact that the chair of the Judiciary Committee Judiciary Committee says I don't care. We're going to do it even though we know it's unconstitutional. That is just wrong. That I yield one minute to my friend, the gentleman from Texas. That's for one minute. Too often, Mr. Speaker, we skip over the fundamental principle and precept and driver of the Second Amendment. So let's reaffirm our faith here. Our founders were determined to fight against their own government for our freedom and independence. They stated unequivocally. that when there were a train of abuses and usurpations and the citizens were reduced to absolute despotism, it was our right and our duty to throw off that government. We wouldn't have these United States. We wouldn't be here today without this sacred Second Amendment. Every law abiding citizen in America must be able to meet evil with equal or greater force, whether it's a violent criminal, a crazed killer, or a coercive government. We should smash the thumbs up, John, we must reject this attempt. The Constitution violate the spirit. of what those founders wrote into that sacred document and to disarm our citizens. Mr. York, Mr. Speaker, the previous speaker on the Republican side said that citizens must be able to meet the government with equal arms. The United States government has hydrogen bombs. Does he think that every citizen ought to have a hydrogen bomb? Sure. Mr. Speaker, and now one minute to the distinguished gentleman from Rhode Island, Mr. Langevin. Mr. Langevin is recognized for one minute. Mr. Speaker, I know the damage that guns can cause firsthand. When I was 16, an accidental gunshot severed my spinal cord and left me paralyzed. Yet the damage caused by that gun pales in comparison to the destruction caused by assault weapons, whose sole purpose is to inflict maximum damage on their targets. No one needs an assault weapon to go deer hunting. No one needs an assault weapon to defend their home. These weapons of war simply have no place on our streets. After all, it's no coincidence that assault weapons were the firearm of choice for the killers in Yuvalgum. Pizzo, Buffalo, Pittsburgh, Parkland, Orlando, Sandy Hook, and the list goes on. So I ask my colleagues, does this body have the courage to stop the next massacre from taking place? Or will we shirk from our responsibilities and our duty, and potentially offer thoughts and prayers while Americans, and even small children are mowed down in our schools, grocery stores, in places of worship? I know which side I'm on, and I hope my colleagues will join me. I thank Congressman Cicilline for his steadfast work. I'm bringing this legislation to the floor. I yield back to the floor. I live very close to Highland Park, Illinois. And I have heard from literally hundreds of people and met with hundreds of people, students, teachers, parents and small business owners, and yes, even law enforcement officials who demand that we have and pass an assault weapons ban today. today's vote would not be possible without the fearless and tireless work of advocates and survivors. This day is for them. And I think that there is no rational reason that we would allow these weapons of mass destruction. to be on the streets of our country that ravages our families, our communities, and our even our way of life. Thank you, Mr. Speaker Americans want their freedom back and I would say to my colleague from Ohio, Mr. Jordan, your freedom stops where mine begins. Schools, shopping malls, grocery stores, independent safeties shouldn't be scenes of mass carnage and bloodshed. on the streets of America. An experienced Ohio sheriff says it well. Assault weapons and large capacity magazines should only be utilized by the military and law enforcement. A proposal to ban their use is common sense supported by a majority of Americans. Until such time that members of Congress start to care about the safety of children in our schools more than their next re-election. Mass shootings will continue to occur and innocent people will die. One of the most experienced chiefs of police I represent says the following. The connection between guns and illicit drugs is 100%. So, let's take the two most important steps. Remove large capacity assault weapons from our streets and arrest the drug dealers who are creating death and destruction across our country. This has been an interesting debate. The cumulative debate from the Republican side have been members have been wanting to show their knowledge of weapons, their intimate knowledge of weapons. They're almost a fetishism with weapons. Something that only Freud would properly understand if he had been explained to the American people. They've talked about hands being dangerous and knives being dangerous, but hands and knives and other weapons that they discussed don't kill people in volume and number like AR-15s do. The CIA did a study and said that even shots through shremities all made fatal impacts on people. The AR-15 is an outgrowth of a military weapon that was designed for military use. The AR-15 is a weapon that destroys people's bodies, kills them quickly, and it should not be allowed in civilized, safe society, particularly for children and for people in the general public. Mr. Speaker, red flag laws take all guns from some people. This bill makes illegal some guns for all people and we know where they want to go. We know what they want to do. They want to take all guns from all people. because they can't stand the Second Amendment. They hate the Second Amendment. In fact, during the markup, the sponsor of the legislation said this, quote, spare me the BS about constitutional rights while Republicans care about law-abiding citizens, constitutional liberties, their First Amendment rights, their Second Amendment rights, their Fourth Amendment due process rights, and all of those have been attacked by the Democrats over the last several months. That's why we should both know on this legislation and let law-abiding Americans have the respect for the second limit they deserve. I yield back. Gentlemen, yields back. Gentlemen from New York is recognized. Mr. Speaker, it's no surprise that assault weapons are the weapon of choice from air shooters and those who target law enforcement. They're designed for ruthless efficiency, killing the most people in the shortest amount of time. The gentleman from Ohio was right, I did say in the committee spare us the BS. I meant the Republican BS. You didn't say that, it was just the beginning. About the Constitution, about the Second Amendment. The Second Amendment is designed not to allow people to fight the government. We want to take up arms against American troops. Is that what they say? That's what they say. We saw what that did with the insurrection we had recently. And that was a mild case. No, the assault weapons, but the Second Amendment is designed to allow for a well-regulated militia, which is to say in our day, the National Guard. The assault weapons ban would take the weapons of war off our streets, as they account for slides. That is why it is supported by all associations of police, by the American Federation of... The individual right you've paid for. American College of Physicians, American Public Health Association, the... and the Nationalized and Sexual Violence National Association of Black Law Enforcement Executives, the Major Cities Police Chiefs Association. They know what they're doing. The soil weapons ban will take these weapons and blow off our streets. It would prevent more of the uvaldis, more of the parklands, more of the tree of life synagogues. Every stinking local cop shop, every county cop shop, and every state cop that's a stuck up and licks a bung hole in the Fed will be there to do whatever dog and pony show BS their coach to do when the time comes. We caught them in that and we've seen it so many times. that all this is is just another one of those those charity fests that they're starting up. I understand it sometimes it doesn't follow any rhyme or reason So it's a rule change that allowed today to happen So they had to vote the rule change in first thing this morning. We saw that and then they had to take the Call it a pitch. They pitched the rule change versions now we need to take up 1808 but it's going to be under 1302 because it's the rule change saying here we brought this to you. They vote in the ability to go to debate which they did. We have an hour of debate which we did. Now they're just considering a quick motion to kick the bill down to a committee which they're not going to do. First, that's the big hurdle. Next hurdle at... Well, the first hurdle is about to come up, the full vote for the bill. If they pass that, then it goes to the Senate. If it even gets to a vote in the Senate, that's the next hurdle. The first hurdle in the Senate would be scheduling. The second one would be, do they get the 60 votes to overcome the filibuster to invoke cloture? Then the next, if they get that, they usually get the full vote. But that's another hurdle. Then it would have to go to the president and be signed. And then only then, once it becomes law, can the lobby challenge this unconstitutional. Then the next hurdle for it would be a temporary injunction or restraining order depending on the method of attack. And then how long would it take to get through the legal system to get in front of the Supreme Court? So with that all said, because it's a lot that it's a loaded question, there's a lot to it. Then how long does it take to get to the Supreme Court and what is the makeup of the court when it gets to it? It still would have to go to district, hell it, three judge panel, en banc, Supreme Court. The makeup could be drastically different by the time it gets there and that's what they're hoping for if this even gets that far. So again, we're getting a little ahead of ourselves, but that's the steps. It's a very involved process. A lot to it. But the Supreme Court, as it is made up today, I think they would shart all over this bill. Not forget, though, that they like to, they've been expediting everything the same way. This is the same way they pulled this the last time. 11 o'clock at night, 1 o'clock in the morning, altering or ignoring all of the standard rules for each of the departments or whichever congressional or senate component. They've done it before, we've seen it before, and that's what they're aiming for right now again. They're one of the representatives that was up there was talking about how they tried to put in an amendment to get rid of because they put all these exemptions in for federal agencies like the FDA can have these weapons. Yesterday was a House Oversight Committee hearing, and it was the third one in the Attacking Guns series in which they're trying to make America, you know, they're pulling at the heartstrings. And I'll admit, I wasn't able to watch it yesterday in live time. I'm still catching up, watched bits and pieces of it so far, because my daughter hurt her wrist yesterday, and we spent time at the doctor's making sure it wasn't broken, so... I've been playing catch-up and I wanted to bring this to you. There were fireworks yesterday in that hearing. I'll set the stage and then I just want you to listen. Representative Clay Higgins of Louisiana is on the side of the Second Amendment. And without giving away what he said, he was asking his colleagues, what would happen if you keep going down this road? What will happen? And then the response from one of his colleagues, Jerry Connolly, out of Virginia. Wow. Watch it. Mr. Boussey, does an American citizen have the right to defend their home from armed, violent home invasion? Yes or no, it's not a true question. Yes, sir. I believe that the Supreme Court has established that right. Yeah, it was well-defined 240 years ago. reaffirmed by Article 3 in every sovereign state since. Ms. Sampson, you believe an American citizen or free American has a right to defend his home from armed, violent invasion? With respect, thank you for the question. The things that we're talking about won't prevent... Well, we're moving fast here. Ms. Okafor, does an American citizen have the right to defend their home from armed and violent invasion? Absolutely. Not only is the human right, it is also guaranteed by the Constitution. Absolutely. What my colleagues are doing, it's really, it's unbelievably beyond the pale of anything reasonable or constitutional. Everything we're leading towards here is the seizure of weapons from the homes of law abiding American citizens that have purchased those weapons legally. You're setting up gunfights in the homes of Americans between Americans responding in the dead of night. When you think ATF and FBI comes to a house in the dead of night? You're setting up gunfights between American citizens defending their homes from dark shadows clearly armed Coming into our home onto our porch and through our door You're setting up death Americans killing Americans over some fantasy that you can define What is a dangerous weapon in the hands of those Americans just living beyond their true right to exercise their own decisions about what type of firearm they legally purchase and own. It's insane what you're pushing. It's not going to end well. Once again, I clarify. Yeah. You have majority control and you're most certainly exercising it and you can push this bill through by party line vote but Americans are not going to sit and Allow without responding man people make decisions like that in the worst possible circumstances again in the dead of night You're setting up some extreme stuff when you're 100% responsible for it my colleagues and the Democratic Party When those gunfights happen that blood will be on your hands over some this political charade of pretending to be able to identify weapons that you from your ivory tower in DC you know better I Can define the weapons that Americans shouldn't have the right to own it's already we can't buy a tank or howitzer or caliber above 50 We carry light arms and we own them We own them legally. When the FBI and ATF shows up to seize legally owned weapons from a law-abiding American citizen. They're going to drive that nail home no matter how many times they have to strike that nail on the head. But we see through them. We absolutely see through them. One guy with a rifle, that whole unit from the FBI, the special respond from the A.T. County SWAT team, the school special response team that was there, they found by one guy with a rifle. The parents had decided to walk through that and arrested or on their way. I wouldn't have had any problem with that. I don't think anybody else would either, especially if they saved their kids. much of you guys heard of that, but there was one point where one of the Republican representatives got up there and started talking about all the federal agencies are exempt from this. If you're a federal employee with the FDA, you can have what they're calling a weapon of war. If you're with the, oh, Board of Education, you can have a weapon of war. If you're right on, let's see, the postman, all right, because it's the Postal Service. According to their exemptions, you can have weapons of war. And gee, remember worst match in the 90s? What do we call it? Going postal. Why? Because the postal workers were the ones that were doing it. Everybody remember that? That might be beyond some people that are listening, you know, recollection because they weren't alive back then. But guys, seriously, go back and look up going postal. What does that mean? Just Google it. See what comes up in the urban dictionary. where that comes from, going postal. That word, going postal, was a postman walking into the post office and killing everybody. As their federal agents, walking in and blowing everybody away at place of work. We talk about these mass shootings that happened, and oh, if we just get it away from the law-abiding American citizens, it'll be fine. And it'll be just great because only the law enforcement people who are trained will have access to it. Guys, that woman who went into the airport, shot the ceiling of the airport up. Her and her husband were for TSA, they employ. How do you think she got the gun through security? I bet you didn't just flag her through. It doesn't matter that the ones that are supposed to be, they're just human. They're not anything special. And you have good ones and you have bad ones, just like you do in everyday life. You cannot count. that the person who has that shield has the best intentions for you. Or that they are going to value your life as much as you do. In fact, they probably value their life as much as you value your life and they won't come out to save you. You're responsible for your own self-defense. That's why we have the Second Amendment. And these want to take that away while granting themselves exemption. McDad said they're little duchies. They want to have power over everybody. It's that power trip ego thing. But it's also the wicked plans of big government. All we have to do is look at history and what they've done. And I love the lie that, you know, mass shootings happen more in America than anywhere else in the world. Really? Go take a look at Africa. Take a look at the child soldiers that they have there that get recruited by different factions of the government and go at each other. Even when they take the firearms away, look at the Machete Rebellion. Oh, hacking and slashing are a real supply and that's modern times, guys. We live in modern times. And if you think it will stop with reasonable gun control, I will point out again, look at what's going on in England because they're using England and Australia is a blueprint of what they want to happen here. Australia as far as I know is not as far around the corner as England is, but England you have programs like Stop Knives, Save Lives, Stop Knife Violence. We need to get these knives off the street. You cannot own a sharpened knife if you got a steak knife that's going to be to point on it, it has to be dulled down or you're breaking the law, you're looking at prison time. This is of the insanity that these people want to take it to. That's why we point and we can look at the, it's a global agenda. You can look at the other places that are farther along with it and see where the, where the plan is going. Let's see. Stuff that goes on overseas that we've ported on here, you know. a car bomb up and blowing stuff up. You know, it happens more often overseas than it does here. Somebody put him in that ditch. Ran him right through the barricade, man. Total of that truck. I haven't heard any more about the DEA or where the mayor was going with that. That's it. It all went hush-hush. The principal of the school was without pay. They were getting ready to fire them. Now they're rehired. They're keeping their job. They're not being fired. The school police chief. I think they're still suspended and they were talking about possibly charging them with something. You know, we know that there were over 200 law enforcement officers on the scene down there. We don't know. We don't have a full list of agencies that were down there, though. No, I don't think anybody's actually posted that. Wouldn't surprise me if we had you know the post office as one of the agencies responding down there and the Board of Education the Board of Education I'm not sure the federal term for it have those quote-unquote weapons of war. So hey, how come you know what? But there's an exemption that way they can be we're gonna tell you to the gun-free zone and we're not gonna be sure because that doesn't make any sense but in this gun BS and just this gun ban that just literally passed last out here in the Senate. This gun ban from the rule of being able to home there, technically, because they're a school employee, intention to be armed. But at the same time, they can't be armed on the school, they can't have a firearm, but we're giving them exemption, cuz they need to be able to defend themselves. That was even the reason given why all these different departments needed exemptions because the ARR-15 is a great tool for self-defense. For them, not you. Rules for me. Another fun example of that. Number one, and again, remember back a few days ago here now, well actually yesterday, we had the command staff meeting and it looks like everybody was on the right path. We are now in mobilization mode from this point forward. We have to practice, practice, practice. Small unit, mid unit, and larger scale response operations are now the norm, not the exception. So all of you need to be constantly scanning your six. Pay attention to everything around you. Observe, observe, and observe. Be intelligent. Be a human, not just a fogged in the head animal, okay? Which is the problem with a lot of the people that are out there. pay attention to your environment, pay attention to details. Okay, that's critical. That's most important right now. Tune that up and stay there. Tweak it and tweak it hard, okay? Another thing is disposition of combat equipment. Now, I hope you don't have just one set of combat gear because you should have what is basically a light or security tactical rig for, you know, somewhere if you have a problem out in the yard you're not sure of. basic gear with light duty, you're close to home, fighting equipment basically is all that's needed, but you might throw a few other small items there, and certainly medical gear every time. So some form of medical compress, needless to say, tourniquets are nice, but they're not perfect for everything. So a military compress too actually would be best no matter what, whatever kind of rig you put together. I don't want it to be the biggest, there's all kinds of models out there, but you need something, okay? Your close-in light tactical rig provides you with firepower and a little bit of other support. Needless to say, your combo is hooked up to that with regards to your local slash home base area of operation. So whatever, FRS, VHF, UHF, FM radio system that you have decided to adopt, congratulations. Make sure it's squared away and make sure the batteries are fresh. A mid-weight tactical system is just basically your combat load in preparation for what might be area heavy defense. Now this is your regular combat load. This has all the tactification technology on board that is needed so that you can sustain yourself within close proximity to your base of operation. The third tier is what we would call the Dragoon configuration and that's the heavy loadout. That's your tactical gear plus your house load with all supplementals including additional medical bags, additional ammunition packs, and magazine breakout bags ready to go. In other words, bandolier bags. Common sense is that you need to know where all that is and you need to have that separate so that each element can be advanced to depending upon the need. You should be tuning yourself to be a complete, both you and your unit, a complete Minuteman operation. Literally, you can turn, acquire what you need, and then step off. So when does the tactical phase begin? You're in your house, that's when it begins. When you step out the door, you better be ready for the idea that you may make contact. You better be thinking that way. Your enemy is hoping that you will not. You'll be brain dead that somehow there's going to be some kind of fairness to whatever it is that's going to take place. There is no fairness. Your enemy is a ghoul, a wicked creature. They're going to try to get up on you any way they can and they lie. Okay? Just simple. So you need to be prepared and I guess the best explanation I can give you about how you should be thinking Go watch the movie heat not because I like the movie heat most of its bullshit and BS and just you know piss on it was designed to direct the criminal mind in America, okay? But there is an impenable scene. There's a perfect example of response not reaction Response because before you step off you've already made the decision you meant you're gonna have to shoot someone You're gonna have to engage a target, put it down, and actually follow up and follow up and follow up and follow up until there are no targets. I have to tell you from personal first-hand experience, okay, years ago when I was an intel analyst, we received no-note briefings. The Jewish mob slash the Kamira Kahini, the old JDL, and that of course directly attached and joined at the hip of the Mossad, committed thousands of bombings in New York. That's beyond a shadow of a doubt. Okay? So the fact that in the last four to five weeks there have been a series of little stories popped out. from different sources that there was a dirty bomb or a dirty device that's been floating around New York that has been concealed. And the argument is that the only people that could conceal it were people with extreme nuclear experience like the Israelis, the Russians, the Chinese, and us. And again, the argument is that the Israelis doing it just like pre-9-11. So if New York is becoming as much of a trash heap as it is, kind of like San Fag Cisco, Not exactly a lose for them. They don't care if they burn down what already they've turned into a big ghetto. Always remember that. Now also remember something I talked about before. If the Israelis are going to do a dirty bomb, they can do a number of devices that will create low end radioactive waste dispersion. But it wouldn't be anything significant. However, remember it's just like the Corona beer virus. Oh, you got the flu. You got it. Okay, well they've done the same thing with nuclear, the nuclear threat. It's just your fuel resist, you're all gonna die no matter what. So as I told you before, you set off a conventional, if you were to create, if they were to create the same kind of device we used at the armor school to simulate a nuclear attack, it was pretty stinking impressive. and they built them in a 55 gallon barrel and they were layered explosive flash powder. They used a number of other chemical additives, also food gas. And when they set that off, you got a blinding flare, just like the thermal charge went out for a couple miles. And the idea was that to simulate a nuclear attack when you was a mechanized unit moving through a nuclear threat. Well, if you saw it from a distance, you'd swear you got hit with a small tactical nuke. Now you add to that some low yield, short life, radiological waste that they stole from one dump or another that the Israelis stole like from, let's say, Tennessee Valley Authority, the Oak Ridge facility. Remember all the Jewish spies that were stealing stuff from there right after 9-11 that got caught? Well, guys... If they're able to walk in, if the Jewish mob is able to walk into Oak Ridge and steal what they want, then there's no big deal wrapping it around a conventional explosive and creating a signature so that they can lie for the feds, so the feds can lie about what happened. And remember, there were dozens of Israelis caught with nuclear materials in, we're not talking small stuff, we're talking two full nuclear rods from the Oak Ridge facility that they put into a public storage site. I was going over the internet today and I was looking for different types of water bottles and about 12 years ago, 10, 12 years ago, I decided to switch all my water bottles over to Nalgene's. Because Nalgene was making something called the Oasis. It was the exact same size and shape as the hip flask for the Alice pouch that goes on a belt. Instead of being the kind of plastic that the Army made, it was the Nalgene plastic which was BPA free. So those were about, you know, six bucks, you know, 10, 12 years ago. I went online and I was looking at them and they're like, in the neighborhood of like $25 now. And the 32 ounce round cylindrical water bottles that used to be $6 are now $15 and $18 depending on what color they are. So the reason I'm bringing this up is because I don't think a lot of people understand that when you're out, you go out and you have two 32 ounce bottles of water, that's going to get depleted quick. What you have to do is you have to replace the water. And you have to have a system in place to do so. Nolgeem makes now, and the reason I like Nolgeem, because I've tried other brands of bottles, and if you read the reviews, it's clear that everybody loves Nolgeem, and it's like the top of the line. There's no aftertaste, you can leave water in there for a year and go drink it. There's no bottle taste whatsoever. So they now make this thing called the platypus, which is like a two liter collapsible water bag with a lid on top. And the whole system is, is if you run out of water, and if you have to go get water out of a pond or a stream, you fill that two liter bottle, collapsible bottle up. Then you filter it, then you boil it, let it cool, pour that into your other hard plastic bottles. This kind of processing could take hours to fill things back up. I carry something called a four-way Stephen Jones key because if you're in an urban environment and you have to either survive or comb through the city for whatever, there's water in water heaters, in backs of toilets, in pipes, and other areas of the building that people overlook. You should always be careful with toilets though because people put cleaners back in there and most of it is just leach but some people are allergic to bleach and some of those tablets if they're just put in there it could be a lethal amount. If you see a sign of it be careful of course but in a water heater you can pull that water out without having to filter it if you want to boil it fine, but you need to have something on your loadout that is able to release the water from a water spigot or a water tank or something. You need to have a filter to filter this stuff, but people don't realize, you know, these are these guys that were wearing Vietnam, they had the two water bottles plus the little kettle to boil. You can shorten the processing time by having a water bag on you and a couple of filters and a couple of containers to boil with. And I'm bringing this up because if you haven't got some decent water bottles and a water processing system in your backpack, the prices are going up like crazy on these meljem bottles. So... Well, it's part of the whole problem with the, again, the non-existent inflation that is. Not only that, remember that the manufacturers are mostly overseas. This may be American made, you know, we'll have to find out. But the biggest problem you got is, again, no matter who it is overseas building it, they're not going to do anything for free and they know currency Americans don't. This is something we need to remember. I've mentioned this a million times for 30 years. When you leave this country, People in other countries are not stupid about the economic situation despite what you might think no matter how remote it is. Those stupid little cell phones connect everybody everywhere now and have for quite a few years. Hell, even when they didn't have that, they'd pick up a phone, check a spot on what something was worth, and then they'd do business with you. Now, that's what's happened now with the entire economic strata, no matter what level it is. If it involves foreign activity, they know that our currency is being debauched and they're acting accordingly. That's why the prices have gone the way that they've gone. Plus, if it's China, they know that they've got control. How much water should you carry all that you can? now this is where you have the problem of balance and weight because A pint is a pound the world around and you are never going to change that. Gravity sucks. Okay, it's just how it is. So the balancing act is how much are you willing to or need to carry based upon serviceability, what's going to keep you functional. And just like you're saying, also you have to calculate time to recovery of water that is being processed. A lot of people like myself, we have a lot of the burkeys that were like, we have a burkey athletic, the one that they made for a little while. I don't think they do right now. And what's really funny is now that they have the newer filters, it's faster. Now it doesn't do very much, but it actually can be carried in a backpack. You drop the water in the top and while you're moving, you're agitating everything too. And it filters the water. So by the time you stop, you're actually, you've got another quart for the canteen. So that's another solution, but it is bulky. It is the size of a regular, say, Aladdin thermos. It's not really really, it's not a big Berkey. We're not talking a big Berkey. That's actually the name for him, remember? We're talking the sports model, and it really is a decent little package. It's all stainless, can't rot. But it's also great when you get into a position, if you are moving into an area to operate, where you would leave it on site and while you're doing other work, you would be processing more water for field operations. There are more efficient filters now. There are more efficient systems that are faster by a little bit. And then don't forget iodine taps. Remember if all else failed, we had iodine taps. Now water doesn't taste great and they don't... Don brought this up, but when we were all a lot younger They used to have campaigns to help the troops over in Vietnam. What were we doing? We'd go to the store and buy Kool-Aid or chair or flavor aid That's what we bought was flavor aid because I could get 12 packs of flavor aid You put them in an envelope and you send them to a soldier over in Vietnam What was the flavor aid for? To cover the flavor of the processed water just like you're talking about all the different ways and chemical ways that stuff's treated. The idea was to offset that aftertaste with something to mask it to a degree. It didn't do everything, but it was better than the way it started out. So a little bit of flavor aid goes a long way or Kool-Aid or whatever, no name brand. I've got thousands of bags of Kool-Aid. Every time somebody starts to discontinue something, we buy them out. And we have those sitting in storage that are tinned up, ready to go for that reason. Plus, if you got a, guys, sugar and a packet of Kool-Aid, several packets, five gallon bucket of water, a container of water, and you got something that's different than just plain old water for people to drink. And so it's a change up. It's another way to change things up. Don't forget that also. We always talk about food fatigue. I don't believe in that. I'm sorry. I could eat the same thing day after day. And once you have not had food, everything else is just fine. Okay? You're all going to learn this, by the way, too. But water, you can't go very long without water. So that is a high priority. It's the idea that you also have to remember glug, glug, glug. So whenever possible, you want to make sure that water containers are topped off completely. Now everybody goes, well, what ever does that make? Well, I'm walking along, it's just me. Well, it's not just you, is it? Have you ever heard a hundred wildebeests going through the woods, a company of infantry? Have you ever heard the tinkle, the clink, and the clank, and the chink, and the glug glug glug from, oh, not one canteen, but how about everybody carrying two canteens at one o'clock in the morning in the still of the night when sound carries so much farther? You ever done that? I have. I've watched him walk right by. You know, the one guy with his A couple of straps hanging off of his butt pack, tapping the e-tool that he's got on the left rear butt cheek there. And that little strap isn't wound up and he didn't tape it off the way he's supposed to. And tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, you can hear that? Like a clock coming at you through the woods. Everything makes sound. This is the thing we haven't talked enough about in more recent years is sound discipline. noise discipline, especially critical, okay? So just something to think about. That's why water bags are really cool because you can compress them, you can burp them, and put the cap on, and needless to say, the load is going to stay stable and not going to be moving around a whole lot, but it's also not going to have that telltale air bubble glug, which is another thing that really stands out. More people you have in the field, It's harder to keep everything concealed. It really is. So that's where you have to work at it. And if everybody works at it, uses their brain, it's amazing how well you can do. But it also means that the team leaders have to do their job. Now, there's another reason you're looking at the water. I don't need that person as a burden to me. You usually have, I'm gonna tell you how it works. You'll have out of a platoon, anywhere from one to three dumbasses who don't wanna carry their water. But we already know how much water we're gonna need. So the dumbasses will either shallow their canteens or they won't even fill half of them. So you're all out there and everybody's breaking the sweat. You're doing a 15 mile march or a 20 mile march and you get to that first water break and they guzzle. They don't have any discipline either. They don't have any brains and they don't have any discipline. By the time you get to the halfway mark, you're pissing at other people because they ain't got any water! It's not that they didn't have the same carrier as you had. The sorry ass lazy bastards just decided that they didn't need it. And by the way, you're carrying their water anyway, aren't you? Because you're gonna have to let old Chainsaw there have a guzzle of your water because, well, we can't let him fall down. Really? That's why you team leaders. That's what your job is. I know this is a misery, isn't it? Well, I want to be in charge because being in charge is so much fun. It's so easy and that's not how it works. As a team leader, you're an NCO. You're not an officer. You got a five-man fire team and you're the team leader. There's four people that are in under your care, your responsibility. You're supposed to be husbanding that resource. You're a squad leader, same situation. Hopefully a sergeant. Well, maybe not. Maybe you're just that other guy who's been designated a straw boss and you're the squad leader. Well, you have the same mission for your five people, but you also have responsibility for all the other nine men in the team. So we've got to keep an eye on that other, you know, senior NCO, I should say junior NCO that's taking care of the other fire team too. And vice versa, the buddy system is supposed to work. So here again, water is life. Do not forget it. Cash it everywhere. One of the things I'm doing tonight, I've got 35, 36 small juice containers. They're getting loaded up. They're going somewhere else. And then I've got another bunch tomorrow. I'm going to do the same thing with them. They're going somewhere else. Water. I've got to practice what I preach. Water, I have tucked away everywhere. If I get stuck in a situation and I get hurt and I'm in an exchange but I'm still capable of being able to defend myself and I'm stuck in a low-heavy spot, I have water and hopefully a little bit of food. I'll figure out where to put what goes out the other end when the time comes but it doesn't hurt to have a few trash bags here and there. Know what I mean? In fact, store bags or throwaway bags, right? Take about ten of them, roll them up into a clutch, put a rubber band around them, and put them in with your water storage. And whatever little bit of food you're gonna stash in different locations. That way, when something has to come out the other end, you got a place to put it, and how to get it out and get it away from you. Because at some point, you are going to have to do that. This is the unglamorous part about being infantry, okay? Hey, Mark. Anyway, go ahead, caller, jump in there. Hey, this is Carla Virginia. I know a lot of teams have SOP where there's no sipping on a canteen in a threat environment. You either drink the entire thing or none at all. And it's for the noise discipline, but it's also because there's always that one guy who tries to hold out and not touch any of his water and he ends up becoming a heat casualty. Well, that's where again, when you hydrate, you have to have hydrate sessions, you actually designate during a stop. Now, not everybody breaks out their canteen. Always remember, operational security. A percentage of your people are constantly on watch while the second half or third, the other third, are going to be taking care of water needs and whatever, checking equipment. As soon as they feel that they're complete, the team later looks to see that everybody's satisfied, they've got everything done, and then they change positions. In other words, now the people who have squared their equipment away, your job is to take up a security post, pay attention to the environment, and the other half get to take care of or a third, take care of their water needs. Now again, you do it in thirds, you can do it at 50% of the element. Depends on how big, how many people you have and how big you are. Also again, area of responsibility. What are you doing? Where are you? So there are, and again, that's part of what becomes an SOP, Standard Operating Procedure for the Unit, SOP. Always make a point of constructing it. Why? What if I told you before? You want to give a minimal number of orders by creating an SOP. You do not have to waste time micromanaging Well, you're just talking about checking on the water. That's not micromanaging. That's management First of all, the SOP was each of you are supposed to take care of your water needs but a safety check a Quick check of equipment a last check is done as a walkthrough by the team leader before you kick off, before you move into the jump off point. Four-Edge is a battle area, the FIBA, whatever you wanna call it, okay? So there's a lot of work to be done there. That's why being in charge is not a breeze. It means that you've decided to embrace more responsibility because you are competent enough to do so and cut it up to heck. Where's the top here?
