I started studying Spanish in 1997 and I came down to Florida in 92. I had never heard Spanish before then I had a girlfriend who spent some time in Central America, learned it, and then came back up here. She tried to teach me. I quit. And then I tried to learn it on my own, and I quit three more times. And the reason I did that was because there's not, well, there wasn't been a lot of resource material back in the 90s like there is today. We had Spanish grammar books and stuff like that and dictionaries, and they helped. But, The way I did it and I started again probably about the year 2000 I started getting fiction books like Stephen King or Tom Clancy and These books fiction books are in Spanish and of course English and I got a notepad and a really good dictionary and I sat down and I started reading these Books the English version and the Spanish version side by side Okay So I'd look at the first sentence and it would say, you know, in English, the man went to the store and then in the Spanish version, it would say, and I wrote down the words because they didn't know what they meant. And after reading 28 grammar books, I read 23,000 pages of Spanish literature in that way that I just told you. And I wrote down about 5,000 words. And that took me about That took me about two and a half years. And at that point, although I could pick up a book or a magazine and read it and know exactly what it was saying, listening to it on the television or the radio was another thing because these people, to me, they spoke so fast that it was very hard to decipher what they were saying. Now, the key to doing this, there's no magic bullet. There's no way to do it. That's an easy way. They sell these, you know, tape series and classes and stuff, learn Spanish fast and easy. There's no such thing. And if people think that they can learn any foreign language by just spending an hour a day studying it, you're never going to learn it. You have to make it part of your life. If you listen to English speaking programs, You got to stop listening to those if you're driving down the road listen to Spanish. There's a lot of apps on the radio on the internet you can listen to Spanish news and I probably listen to four or five hours of Spanish news from Madrid per day and If you're not really motivated to learn a foreign language, you're not going to learn it period you may learn I know some people who A lot of people, a lot of people that are Americans, they say they know how to speak a foreign language fluently, and they only know like five or six sentences. Because once they start speaking and the other person says, oh, you have less than y'all, and then they're like, well, yeah, a little bit, they keep speaking in English because they don't know the language. So it's something that you have to... be very conscientious about and spend a lot of time doing it. And when I say I wrote down 5,000 words, I'm serious. I wrote down that many words. We've got really good resources, Google being one of them as far as the translation goes. There's a lot of apps. So someone can learn a language, but they have to ask themselves primarily, what are they going to learn it for? Are there a lot of people around where they live who speak it? Or are they going to go on ham radio? We'll do it. We'll do it. We'll do it. We'll do it. We'll do it. We'll do it. We'll do it. There's possibly three languages that you're going to be concerned with. Number one, of course, is Spanish because these people aren't just in Florida. They're in the southwestern part of the United States and they're all up and down the East Coast now. In fact, up in... Buddy was telling me up in northern New York, right next to Lake Erie, there's... a contingent of them that are living right on the coast of Lake Erie. So as far as the different dialects of Spanish, what I've figured out by speaking to people down here that are customers that don't speak any English at all, they hear me speaking in a dialect or an accent actually that is from Madrid because that's all I listen to. And we understand each other no problem, except that they're Cuban. The Cubans are very difficult to understand. And when I talk to people who are from Venezuela, Colombia, Central America, they say the same thing to me about the Cubans. I can understand them. And if I tell them, please slow down, they will for a minute or two, and then they'll start speeding back up. It's just something I can't really understand. Okay, so that's the reality of Spanish and any foreign language that you're going to learn. The other few languages, if we reach into a balloon-goes-up scenario where we've got, you know, the Dala-Colasco in the United States, probably there's already a lot of Chinese and Russian people here that speak English, and especially Russians. A lot of them are here. They speak English in the home, but when they're out... you could go to somewhere like Kentucky and speak to people that have a Kentucky accent and not know at all that their family is from Russia and they actually speak Russian fluently. So if you monster the airwaves, you want to learn one of these languages, you're going to have to spend a lot of time on it. And I will tell you this, it takes a lot of time and energy. And when I started doing it when I was about 20 years old, I could sit down and concentrate. And I could get a lot done because I had a lot of energy at that time. I'm in my 50s now and it's not the same. If you ask me, if you just said to me right now, okay, how about you switch over to Portuguese or Italian or French, which are similar to Spanish in grammar, but not pronunciation. I would say no, because I already know how much time it's going to take. So if you're going to study a language and specialize in it, pick one. that is something that you really are motivated about learning and stick to it. Don't try to do Russian and Chinese and Spanish, it's not going to work. Just pick one and try to be the best at it, dedicate some time to it, and just realize that if you're only going to spend an hour a day doing this, it's not going to work. Now, you can study for an hour a day. and then spend three or four hours listening to it. Even if you don't understand what's going on, it's important to listen to the cadence and the rhythm of the words and the pronunciation themselves. So that way you can, when you're reading, you can say, oh, this is what I heard before. And then when you're listening, you can say, oh, they're talking about the weather. Oh, they're talking about sports. Okay, they're talking about the president of Spain. They're talking about the president of Mexico. They're talking about people shooting each other or something like that. You'll be able to differentiate. It's like a big puzzle and you put all the pieces of the puzzle together, all the words, and it eventually comes together. But if you're, I mean, if you've got an IQ of 300, you can probably study a whole bunch of different languages at once. But these people who claim to know seven or eight languages fluently, that's BS. That's total BS. I've spent 20 years speaking Spanish and speaking with people down here in Orlando area, Florida, and I can say that I'm probably about 90%, 95% fluent. Sometimes I've got customers that come from the island of Puerto Rico and they're out away from the capital where they grew up. I have a hard time sometimes differentiating everything they say. Now, if I listen to Spanish news from Spain, or the radio or some kind of talk program, I can understand 100% of it. And if I spoke to those people, I can understand it. But once you start to get away from that, Then it gets to be difficult. The closest thing to Spanish outside Spain would be Colombian or Venezuela. You get outside those areas and it starts to fall apart into something else. You can still understand it. And as long as you tell them, speak a little bit slower because I'm not from your country, they at least do appreciate that you took the time to study the language. In fact, what I noticed is if I meet these people, People that speak Spanish that don't speak any English at all, of course, are standoffish, but as soon as they see that you took the time to speak the language fluently, then they open up quite a bit more and you can get more information out of them. So that's just the head of them. One of the things government learned a long time ago is that some people have a better ear and or. It's not a matter of IQ. It's a matter of genetic makeup with individuals. It's kind of like light sensitivity. uh... sound sensitivity and linguistics linguistics as far as how people brains are wired uh... very quickly they've stepped in the sort and when you do uh... anybody's got a has got the eighties krill is the the general testing and then they have a subnet testing that they used to do and still do to try and identify special vision, special hearing, and linguistics acuity, the ability to pick up, you know, even if it's just in some form of multi-choice question structure that they used to come up with. Hey, by the way, you had some language, yeah. Well, we want you to take another test. And then they give you another hundred-point test that you go through, and then they, ah, we'd like to talk to you. In fact, I'll tell you what, we need to talk to the, you need to talk to this captain over here. and what they do is they progressively route the individuals that are quick to pick uh... if case in point everybody forgets uh... with special forces it wasn't just being the trigger puller you had to have to background languages and they have the the linguistics division that fort benning actually there was one at four port bedding uh... before paul cromember was school of the america's and and including obviously northern south america and in to a degree i gotta say came in from western Africa too but in that particular environment they had an entire linguistics or language uh... you know shin class and it was uh... there were a series of compression courses so yes you were doing still the the one-hour study or two-hour study a day depending on how much time you had and the other advantage that they had something like what you're talking about before you were going to get out now as you were recruited this is something we always joked about uh... when the cia would come to recruit us they try to recruit us well i can't tell you what you're going to go where you're going to go what you have to have a background in farce with the support uh... chinese language of the one dialect or another and i think all okay so i really don't want to be involved in this but i don't go there and i don't think the interesting thing is is that they they actually have a series of and they still do i know they do uh... you from the intelligence branch you know intelligence uh... element uh... human intelligence operations level language school had a series of extensions for instance uh... and i think probably this we've talked about this for a long time on the air but you could have the interrogator courses with the interrogator course comes the we know linguistic issue and they had again prioritized language training but in addition if you had a mmm a propensity for being able to pick up a language or language is than they put you on the fast track and prioritize you and like you said the average person isn't quick to pick up on a second or third language but there is a whole block of the population out there that is and you know where they put them and i'll tell you where they put them first as you and i can imagine isn't signal communications great radio up i had a friend that i've not had a friend have a friend who was in the navy he was in linguistics he could handle the ocean actually he could handle any of the asian dialects you know that got him they got it stuck in one job with no possibility of any kind of transfer out of the position because he was a prioritized individual he ended up leaving the navy you know if we get any he was as highly could in his in all in in rank he was as high as he could possibly achieve for the number especially for the number of years he was in service he was in vietnam they had him stationed in thailand on a communication ship they by he was in the navy so he had to serve six months at sea what they would do is transfer all their equipment to a a dock ship they would they would simply move to the other ship hit all the equipment turn on the transceivers and they were on board technically on board a ship for the other six months they technically left the ship to all the paperwork look good but they were simply next to the docks in a series of warehouses set up with the exact same signal monitoring equipment he pretty well could cover all the chinese dialects you know korean leo shin uh... right on down the coast you know kai he cover all the vietnamese northern and that's what he did until even after vietnam in order for me to get to any kind of promotions data is what he had to do are so valuable is they he had to quit leave for 24 hours came over to the to the army and in the process then we may immediately got promotion immediately accumulated more what we're concerned with our retirement points the closer you get to retirement retirement points they're accumulated a number of different ways and he still proceeded with his linguistics in fact he actually ended up being side barred with communications before he left but he didn't want to get back into it As far as the language goes, his children knew at least four different national languages, Laotian of course, Cambodian, and I believe that the one boy could easily handle any of the Chinese dialects, but one of the things that came out of that is he grew up in that with the family, you know, with the dad having the experience that he had, and I still think it comes down to genetics. That was a big push. uh... the military's figure this out like i said they do a sifting program specifically for this and we need to be doing the same thing now we need to perfect all of the skill but we can and i argue that anybody can learn another what you you just keep working at it that one of the things you brought up is listening to radio television well there's another area for especially dealing with the spanish dialects is uh... plug in that cb radio i've told everybody to plug in you be a little interesting is that uh... You have the CD radio which is the 40 channels of the American version 26 695 to 27 405 Then you have outside of that upper and lower you have the free band Okay, and those free band areas. That's where most of these Spanish people hang out on because they bring CD radios that are already tuned for those frequencies and into the United States and then they hook them up and they just like each other and the FCC doesn't say anything about it. Well, yeah, they don't say much about it, well they should, but they won't enforce it, which is typically the case. If it's an American, they burn their hind end. If it's an Hispanic, they don't touch them. Go ahead. Right. So they will hang out on CB radio, okay? And I listen to it and they don't... They're not very careful with what they say, okay? They're pretty reckless over the radio. The battle catter is very different there. Yeah, go ahead. Yeah. Well, I will tell you this as well, is that the cartels will snag people in the communications industry in Mexico, and they've got a whole communication set up for these cartels. Oh yeah. And the military doesn't do anything about it because they recruit out of the military as well. So they're not just on CD radio, they're on the whole spectrum. And if you can find out what bands they're on and what are they talking, what they're doing, it's pretty technical. It's not just CD radio, but we're going to have to have people that do monitor just the CD bands to see what they're saying. But it's, you know, like I said, I've been learning the language. for over 20 years now and sometimes it's difficult to understand what these people, especially when you've got four or five guys on the same channel speaking at once. You've got to be very good and you can do it, okay, but you have to spend time doing it. And the problem that we have on the stage is that these kids these days are glued to their cell phone and ham radio, CB radio is one of the last things they wanted to do. get involved with. So you have to, just like the Chinese and some other countries around the, especially the communist countries, they force their kids to learn something. You're going to learn violin because we told you to do it. If you don't do it, we're going to beat the crap out of you. That's basically what they're up in and it's like. And, you know, as far as like speaking another language, you're going to be forced to speak this other language and you're going to spend 10 hours a day speaking it. And they, you know, they've got experts. in these fields where they force people to learn it. And that's what we're going to have to do with our people very quickly. I could put people on a fast track to learn Spanish much quicker than I did, but what it entails, 90% of what it entails. It's like a three-legged stool where you've got grammar, pronunciation, and vocabulary. Okay, that's your three-legged stool. You don't want to mess with them. But once you've got the grammar and the vocabulary down, 90% of it is just listening. You have to listen and listen and listen. And that's thousands and thousands of hours of just watching TV, listening to radio shows, going to a YouTube video and listening to people talk about a subject in Spanish that you like to hear about, and then read me in the comments section and pick up what people are saying. It takes time. And again, one of the things to remember is the technologies at our fingertips. My argument is use it while it's here for our purposes, not for what the enemy has in the way of an agenda to kind of addle the brain and divert. All of this, all the technology we have at our disposal gives us the ability to jump ahead quickly provided we take advantage of it. Tell you what I got to call her, I got to let you go for the moment because we're almost to the top. Larry, anything else before we go? Because I got to get Larry back in there. No, not really Mark. I mean, the inflation is kicking in, so if you haven't bothered to take time to prepare the past few years, it's going to be a lot harder for you to do so as food products and everything else go skyrocketing out of sight. And this is intentional. They plan to do this and devaluation of the dollar, and this has been worn about for a long time, and they've done it slowly like the pot boiling the frog type. Well again, for everybody out there, remember CAPABLE. Material and hand, as opposed to digits, are the first rule in any of the conversion cycles. And that means ammunition, food, technology, resources that are free that you can accumulate now, or resources that are barterable and tradable later on. Technology isn't really outdated no matter what it is because at some point you're not going to get anymore, no matter what the subject is. And so what you got is all you got. Remember that people. Doesn't mean it was what it is. It doesn't make any difference. If it works, be a need. People will want it. God bless our republic. We shall prevail. The gentleman of the Empire is on the run.
