I went on eBay and someone, posted a Turner Super Sidekick desk mic and that's not out of the ordinary but this one that they posted had the modification of the two buttons where they have the up and down channel right on the desk mic and that's kind of rare to find and I bought it 70 bucks and I'm gonna have it I get it shipped here I'm going to take a picture. I don't know if you know how to do that modification, but I'm going to take a picture of it. I'll put it on the Discord in case you don't know how to do it. Oh, okay. But having the up and down channels right on the dust mic is kind of nice, instead of having to reach over to the radio to change the channel. Right. What it basically is, is an extension. They used to have those. The talkers had them. Everybody, certain companies made them. They were quite expensive by comparison to a regular mic, but they were useful because you just used the hand control. the devil has a desk unit that's you know those are more closer more expensive still but basically the same technology go ahead well i thought one about two years ago and i've been looking every week for a turner super sidekick with the up-and-down button by firing on today display you went to a estate sale and got it i guess the guy passed on or something but um... my question was uh... they also offer a turner super sidekick electro electrolyte Do you know what that does? Is it worth putting it in there? Most important, it's going to take some of the noise out of the background noise out in the process, depending on what you're replacing. It'll have to look, make a copy of the kit. And then... So they've got it on eBay. It just says Turner Super Studkick, electrolytic capacitor kit. It's $5.95. It's got three capacitors in an envelope. Oh, and it just opened up. Okay, yeah, it may be part of the final. I'll have to take a look at it. It may be part of the final modification. because there's a couple of different ways you can boost power in the box without setting up a linear amplifier. Most of your older units have, like I mentioned many times, a build kit. Well this goes right in the dust mic. It's still the same thing. It's going to either power boost or it's going to help to clean up sound. that's what we're not what you're doing with the mike remember it's pretty good at green is that going to drain more on the uh... nine-volt battery that goes in there always remember you had more stand out now that i can't see that no because i feel like i said i have to do what it's doing with the with the uh... where it's being hooked up but typically again if you're going to add more components it's micro milliamperage in many cases but still you're pulling power always when you have more more of their support they're being dealt with the plumbing to give it that way more political to become better toward getting yeah it's a big thing here again it may eliminate or probably will eliminate a lot of fun and it also will clean up by and may help with the synthesizer circuit or maybe an extension of that and that would it will do with a lot for it to sound more like the way we're talking right now point to point you know halfway across the planet for each other you know it's a bit but it i have to look like it had the uh... the uh... what really can oil capacitor systems are well not ancient but i mean they're all forever the uh... idea of putting that into the mike uh... it's basically clarity or power you know another which you know what you have a power might to begin with that's what you're going to do you're going to boost from you know so that when you when you can send the signal through you're going to get a hotter hires bill hardens bike when it hits the uh... the transit the uh... tramp either In this case, you're transmitting, you're not going to be listening with a microphone. But the idea is that it pushes more energy where it's supposed to, but it keeps it clean so you don't get a lot of the other wobble, noise, or knock that you get. Because when you send energy down the system, you want to make sure that you keep it consistent. and you can have you'll have spiking when you talk when you even when you talk like it happens here to a degree with any regular mike pickup you know if i were to act if i were to make it if i were to extend my voice and be more aggressive right now uh... i can't cancel out the system i can make it to the point where you can hear me but you may not necessarily hear what i'm saying and so what you have is you want you what you want to do is equalize and that's part of what most of your adult technology does a great a cleaner signal when it comes to what people here no matter what it is it's going on uh... the problem is it can get to the wealth that a proper us if it's not proper radio but you know we had this happen i don't know if you were listening when we were firing the fifties up at dahms we were one of the live ranges we were poor the militia live ranges up uh... emmerich i've everybody remembers that we were actually firing the fifties and i think that ok ready and boom everyone's or what was that and of course our and we're hearing more more more well on your end because of the the synthesizer and and equalization it sounded like it was it was not really impressive to the to the audience but it it was swimming to the year let's put it that way was not overpowering with the without system So that's one of the reasons for again cleaning up the process from where it goes in and goes through and then finally gets to the transmitter. Alright well, I bought it and I finally have a desk mic now as opposed to just a handheld mic for my Galaxy 2527 which is nice because on these the channel selector always seems to go out. It's like the first thing that goes out. Now you can replace it but it's a pain in the ass. take apart and put it in there. So I've got it and hopefully it works when I get it. It looks like there's a lot of wear to it so it probably does work if the guy was a, you know, solidly talking on CB radio. Those guys seem to, you know, take the stuff apart a lot and make sure it works all the time. Well, there's a lot of people listening that actually rebuild and they all build that are listening to the program here, that they have shops. So I can get an answer on if I can see what it is, what kind of a bill kit you have or an add-on bill kit because you have to see where it's being hooked up to first of all. And one neat thing about having the hands-on unit like that is it eliminates motion and activity. which is a good thing if you're busy focusing on for instance uh... maybe you have something you're monitoring with your computer technology you don't have to be want to be moving around so it minimizes motion maximizes you know again efficiency well i just put a link to it on the uh... intelligence report on the discord so you can this is three little capacitors it comes with instructions on how to do it but uh... i'll probably do it i want to trick this thing out to where it sounds really good while looking at private ok off the poor picture appear to every time i go to the court of pickups with the system because we're not exactly the most sophisticated system in front of me or so i think which over to the other other computer to work on that but all k i'll pick it up during the hour break at least how that helped well well-prepared for them to take a part when i get it and see how this guy did it And the way he did it, he put a lot of these mics, they have the buttons kind of far apart. And to me, if they used it a lot, he's got all the bugs worked out and it probably has some decent parts. It may already have a capacitor kit in it, I don't know. Well, question, you were picking this up in an estate sale? No, I picked it up on eBay today, the lady posted it. Oh, okay. Well, you mentioned the estate sale, so I was curious, because estate sales are a good place to find them as not. I've found a lot of- She got it out of the estate sale, didn't know anything about it. She saw it and it wired for four pin, and I saw it and I was like, I'm buying this. Well, that's one of the things too about these state sales is usually the word gets out and especially if the guy is a ham operator, the family gets hold of, you know, who else is in the, you know, circle. And they'll usually come in and hawk everything before you get a chance to get anything. But unless the wife was the first one to die and the husband was the second one to die, the kids are like, no, just go ahead and have a stage sale. yeah and that's what that happened a couple of times i've got mumbles of antennas uh... one of the people we bought everything that was there virtually everything in the those in the basement and that will outside or look around i realized man that is a monster masked outside that i realized we have a there's a whole bunch of coal wax called that this guy was a operator another few we've got a few pieces but not most of it was already taken by somebody else like you said the wife is already gone the husband was had was the second one to pass away Another thing that I need to do with this is I've been looking for a decent amp, but most of the decent amps for a decent price are the ones that are already wired 12 volt. So you have to get a power supply. But then you've got amps that are low drive and you've got amps that are high drive. And they really don't explain what the difference between the two is. We know that some of these amps will work great with just a four watt input, but what if you've got a radio where it's been tweaked to dead key at 1 watt, but you know, it's going to swing at 30 watts. That's too much voltage to be put into those low drive amps. Well, first of all, typically what you'll do is you'll go higher end with regard to your whatever linear amplifier you choose to go to. You're not starting off, say, 25 or 40 watt. You'll jump to a 150 or a 300 watt machine right from the get-go. because otherwise typically what you have to do it's kind of like f m broadcasting you stack your when your amplifiers used to be a go from say a standard off-the-shelf radio to that uh... fifteen twenty five or even fifty watt linear but then if you want to go bigger rather than don't the original linear use that linear as your primary drive obviously and then take it up into the three fifty five hundred one thousand step We had a couple of guys who were... So all those amps are high drive amps from the get-go? If you pick up a 600 or 800 watt amp... You've got to have something to put... Yeah, you're still going to need probably another pusher. It depends on, again, when it was made. If you... earlier on, everybody was learning, or the people that did it were people who were into commercial or military radio from the military signal communications end. Typically they went from one... from government over to the private sector. And how they learned... to work electronics is they would stack the stack the systems uh... accordingly you could that way if you have a break you still have something to signal with in other words if you lost that are high-end output uh... well pusher that uh... winter amplifier you could disconnect rehook and you'd still be pushing fifty watts which get you good signal just get you foggy signal that was not every places are going to have the way you want to but you will get the signal out it'll still go good range uh... the other thing is also again as we were just talking medical clarity uh... the biggest problem you've got the radio that you've got where you've upgraded it this and this is a problem with everybody who did things like this to by the way it's not new of all the bill kits allowed you to take a even a dark box would move today the dark boxes are tinier than the older small radios used to be all of those older radios are actually a quibble into a mid grade radio in the state of nature typically you could upgrade them if you did then you had to whoever was doing your radio work if they were building a break to help in the build yet by the system they'd have to first of all test the output and confirm if you did a rebuild on that or an upgrade and then they then they configured the linear amplifier they were building for you accordingly based on the idea that they didn't have to step up internally you know make a of we usually that if it was a you were four five six what's maybe ten watts twelve would be normal But a lot of small radios that were out there made by, for instance, for Montgomery Ward's and Sears were powered down. And it was at the time when they did that because the radio band was getting cluttered. There were more and more radios out there. Everybody was doing CB like everybody had a cell phone. So what they did is they agreed to reduce power so that you weren't signaling out to three counties away where you didn't need to talk. because most people were talking locally. If you decided you wanted greater range, then you did what we're talking about. You start moving into a better tech radio, either a better, bigger radio, or you built up what you had. And people want either way, because back in the day, we liked building stuff. The big thing with the linear amplifiers is, like I said, in many cases, you didn't really have to go much past 50 watts for most of the work you were doing, because you can talk to about a good chunk of the country of the 50-watt linear amplifier. The big issue is, you know, how clean is it going to be at night is when you take advantage of that. However, once you get up into the higher-up, a lot of the bigger linear amplifiers, they look like one unit, but in reality there's another step internally. And if you look at the schematic, typically lift the lid, even the guy who was building them at home would have a complete schematic on the lid for you. What you'll see is a mimic. You'll see the smaller assembly, which is your goes into, which is your first step, and then it, of course, goes through a series of low-pass filters. Low-pass filter, I'm pretty sure. If I'm wrong, slightly in the microphone. You'd have a series of low-pass filters to clean the signal up. It would go to the second linear amplifier and it'd shoot the signal down the line to whatever wonderful antenna you had. Better have a good antenna because you're going to fry whatever might be low-tech up there. That's why all these other things with the antennas either go with a steel whip, 72 inch, you know, about 6 foot, and go steel. or you go with the what you feel like on the truck drivers where they were pushing a lot of average and they're using the uh... oil you know the oil cooling system they have all kinds of different solutions to deal with all that energy and i think it's going to be twenty five foot zero eight point seven which you know it's twenty five foot long plus a ground plane but i think that the local rag chew it's not a yagi you know Well again if you're gonna go beams now, this isn't boy I've got a sit sitting in the back I still have put up kept my hammer pestering me before even before he died I've got a set of beams biggest thing in space and remember Ideally unless you're going to fix on a real a single target you also want to pick up a radio you know like a directional mass control so you can do the full 360 reconfiguration uh... typically what we used to watch for people that had the home television and powers and they have the uh... the motor antenna and you basically buy that for a doctor take it with the intended to get off the house men you hook up your player uh... your uh... yagi to that year and it's they they're still out there i just affect even out they what you've got a Facebook marketplace don't forget them even though i hate Facebook farce book but uh... if you can get on Facebook with a friend or something go look at Facebook marketplace i've seen a lot of the massed controls there for cheap and they really don't go bad i mean the motor unit itself we really built a brick dog house they're fairly crude the big thing is whether or not somebody had had the controller of the house was to put up the throwaway could have known what it was so if you're lucky catch everything there and a lot of time to find the controller separate because the guy got it at the yard so where the person didn't know what it was for and anybody who's in the radio you can use it for more than just anal a m of your own pb you can use it for any number of other pieces of equipment you know i i put uh... If you could go on eBay two or three years ago, these Royce from 1976, 77, 78, the little Royce base stations, they were going for like 15, 20 bucks back then. And I picked up three of them and I've just got them sitting in a box. And now you go back on eBay right now and you look for a base station, any base station from the 70s. you'd be lucky to find it less than 80 bucks. The big thing about most of the bases from the period is the very thing we're talking about. A lot of them were built powerful. They were built high-end. And the biggest problem was cooling didn't catch up with the technology. So just a little heads up I've talked about many times. The wonderful age of computer fans is here. And you can just hook up a stand-off computer fan to blow through the system and it makes such a difference to pull the calories down, especially for extended broadcast. Because that most common with those and like the Griffins, there's a whole bunch of other one that would really got, what is it, the green weenies. It actually looks like fire safety green. they'll recognize the whole right away problem they they were the hundred fifty will be usually a hundred fifty watch out of the box but the biggest problem you could broadcast for a long period of time because it would heat fat heat up fast they were really notorious for burning out finals if you were a talker if you were yapping back and forth you know if you were squawking chair squawk shut up and listen it was okay because you are keying the mic but the moment you keep the mic you work that you were posting the equipment uh... the the pollution well today we have been even though we had he thinks that we did have fans but fans were stupid price back then nowadays there's no excuse not to have a whole pile of cooling fans on standby for all of this equipment because when you can pull calories off you have to keep to a certain degree remember that do go look at your specs uh... certain amount of human necessary to keep everything working right but you have calorie build up very quickly and especially with certain circuit may have been designed light and all the components themselves build up and retain a certain amount of heat no matter what so that's where again uh... heat tanks and little computer fans will continue to cause he'd more than anything else is a standing wave ratio below or above 1.5. And a lot of these people discount the standing wave ratio when they set their antenna up. That's the first thing you have to do is make sure that that is adjusted to where it has the lowest SWR possible. Because if it doesn't, that'll blow out your finals quick. Well, yeah, but the other problem is, remember, you're looking at right off the bat a fairly powerful transceiver. the capacitor systems everything was compactly the units are small by comparison have they could have made the bigger with the big thing back in the day when they especially seventy-two were to make the same radio but we're gonna make it smaller uh... i mentioned this before my a to uh... to me a radio so i have my best ones that i like personally unfortunately when you want to work on their hairball because there the japanese made everything they date tighten that circuit board up to the point where you can fit a piece of paper between the individual components they started doing the same thing with the base radio base station radios and you can there you see the president radio's compare them inside also remember how much energy is under the hood So it's just the idea that your capacitor banks are all relatively tight and close. Transformers, look at how they're employed under the hood, how they were deployed and how they were put together with the circuit. A lot of guys didn't know to spread those out so that you have better air circulation. And so that's one of the other reasons that, again, simple little computer fans, which are pennies, you can buy as little as 20, 30 cents for a twelve-volt power source uh... computer-friendly can hook up to almost anything it's cheapy and got help if you touch the blades will shatter but uh... you did there's no reason not to have that solution on standby actually have spares but you can do far better that you've got all kinds of uh... industrial surplus now in cooling to the point where you've got well fifty sixty years worth of computer tech which makes a big difference plus all here's nothing thank you for bringing that up there's a whole bunch of uh... for the very same reason with computers member with processors and cooling all the other issues there are a bunch of other really nice add-on and they're cheap now because computers have gotten to agree to a degree smaller but there's a whole bunch of these add-on frame circulation air system Not stuff that's inside the computer box, but rather things that you laid like laptops and other things on. Those are perfect for the kind of job we're talking about. Because they're usually in a rectangular format, you'll find two, three, or four fans. They're laid and they're very narrow. They have a little standoff frame, and they even have directional venturis, and you can adjust the fixture so that it actually directs the air. And those are something that if you guys see those at a yard sale, and this is for everybody, we're having a conversation for everybody here, grab those. Because the one time you need it, it would really be nice to be able to operate a piece of equipment and talk, talk, talk, talk, talk. You might be sending a signal for it all longer than you expect. And the big thing there is, you never know how, well, you don't know what your service life is gonna be with regard to have to use. One of the reasons we're setting these radio grids up is after we win. not just the while we're fighting okay remember i've talked about this many times reason i'm pushing shortwave but the pb frs or whatever there's no reason for us to lose communication with each other it's just that we're not going to be having a middleman and we've had for quite some time we're probably not will afford a middleman so radio makes more sense than the infrastructure we don't have and the infrastructure that will be destroyed by war which is the other part that doesn't sink in with everybody yet. Whoever gets motivated first to start scavenging off whatever's out there and really make it work wins. I mean, in business too. Not just simply a battlefield, but in business down the road. Anybody gets motivated, the motivated win. Now, if you have the ability first to talk and squawk at a distance, it's better than standing out on the back porch and shouting or ringing the old triangular bell and hoping somebody hears the dang, dang, dang, dang, dang, dang on the wind. and we can do better than that so that's the other reason for radio radio tech being built now and getting out there for the other side is what is the security of what he worked with the were having these conversations guys why do you think they're canceling shows why do you think they're stopping what do you would ever talk about the member of the right played the piece with the uh... the uh... the uh... federal communications set warnings out to the ham operators about using the bb and they did it on a weekend, on a Sunday. Why'd they do that? Their logic is that they've got everybody brain dead and their yes men have told them that you're all isolated. That all they gotta do is a parlor on you, hit a switch, and you're all done. But what happens if everybody is already thinking beyond that box and has several other boxes on hand, and when they shut it off, the only people they hurt are their own people. Do you see how that works? This is why we want math force. We want macro motion. Anybody you can get to get into radio? I've told you before, I'm mean about this one. If you really, really like a piece of equipment, give it to a relative as a gift. And if down the road, well, I didn't really think I needed it. Oh, I'll take it back. If you don't want it, you sure you don't want it? No, I don't need it. Okay, thank you. Well, you gave them a really expensive, a nice gift. It was a nice gift, maybe not expensive. But guess what? You got the radio back. Hey, isn't that cool? You got another piece of equipment. And you had an excuse to buy it. It was a gift. Oh yeah. I'm looking at that way at everything we do now, people. Those that listen and pay attention and step up to the plate are gonna do just fine. Those that are basically stumbling, mumbling around. Well, you know they're gonna end up at your doorstep.
