All the Cobra radios are decent rigs and in fact Cobra, with some of the middle models, Cobra, Midland, all who else, even Uniden. Now this is weird because you know, Uniden is a totally different company. uh... some of those middle set radios are is are actually the same other board in different machines in a few we can compare them with with what you depending on what your it is if you lay one next to the other one on top of the other the the board switches everything line up they just put different chrome and they may have put you know different markings on the dash green on the plastic and make up the dash but otherwise internally there the exact same radio it depends on what you're what it is what the unit itself and already set up with power to get the member walk here's what you do is it something by far far Facebook uh... no it uh... i don't know where that will be okay well not a problem but remember it's got the plug there for what you do make sure like i said hook up the antenna Take it out to your vehicle if you can, plug it in and make sure it works. If it's used, if it's a used radio, you should be able to walk it right out, plug it in. Put the antenna mount on the roof, make sure, do a quick inspection, like I said, of the antennas. Here's another thing, thank you very much. When you're looking at these, take your fingers and run your fingers from the antenna base where the magnet is, right down the whole line, just to be safe, and watch for anything that picks you or burrs you. If you got a picky or a tickier or a burr, there could be something that either poked in it or it could have been bit or something. Take a close look wherever you find a mark, because it should be smooth as a baby. That line should be just, you may have a roll or a kink, but it may have a roll or a loop in it, but you want to go the whole length all the way to the base. That's the first thing you do. Then you plug the plug check the antenna fixture itself, which is a female Make sure that nothing's in there. You know because sometimes when this stuff sits, okay? Let me give an example You've got that pin in the center look to see if there's a little muddy in there or dirt in there Why? Well the things been sitting in a garage or sitting even in a house Those little mud dauber critters get in anywhere where they have a tubular device. I don't know what it is They love that kind of the kind of sealed environment If you see a little dirt or something, get a pin and then work that pin in there and then tap that out to be safe to make sure if it's hollow. Also check to make sure there's no gunk or junk in the threads, you know, it could be sitting somewhere. After you do that, blow that out, then plug that into the base of the radio, screw it in, and plug it into the power. Now before you plug it into the power, I will say one more thing. look where the on-off switch where the off power is make sure it's in off power mode before you plug it in this is a precaution not a big deal not likely to have a problem with it but i always do that anyway then plug the power in and turn her back on and see how it works sounds good uh... yeah i think i'll need to get forward to the antenna it doesn't come with an antenna though they go to the truck stop that you need one i don't know how much money i want to spend but if you go to the truck stop for about twenty dollars you can get a nice magnet mount uh... there's two models that are out there right now most of the truck stops one is designed to look alike a fake uh... eight hundred meg antenna effectors three of them one is a straight but dipole but it's streamlined and it looks like a one of the nicer eight hundred meg antennas or two-meter The other one looks more like a traditional 800 meg. It's a fake. It's designed to look like an 800 meg antenna, but it's a CB antenna. The third one is the traditional straight tube with your adjustment point in the middle where you can vary the upper rod and has a little Allen fixture and another straight little rod on top. All three of those work really fine. I've been picking up the ones because it's what they had left. I've been picking up the ones that look like the more expensive 2 meter, or forgive me though, they look like the first model, looks like the more expensive 800 meg antenna. All of them work because I've used all of those, so any one of those would be fine to use to take along, you know, buy it because you want, need one, and then test the radio. Yeah, you don't want to hit that transmit key if you don't have an antenna plugged in. Exactly. Yeah, you know why as well as I do Larry. We gotta have the power go somewhere. If the power can't go down that line, what happens is you're gonna have jump, you're gonna have points where it's gonna build up, it fails certain minor components, and typically what happens is your finals will go. Now it doesn't necessarily work that way because it'll also be a diode. There's diodes, diodes are the most sensitive, really the most sensitive component in the circuit. But either way, they're fixable, but why do you want to fix it when you know how to prevent it? Know what I mean? In other words, I didn't buy it to break it, I bought it to use it. Okay? So... Yeah, the magnetic is what I want to go with, because I want this thing to be able to move from vehicle to vehicle. Well, no, real quick on that note, that radio probably has what is a high-low-range transmit. Everybody always asks what that's about. when you want to talk local to vehicle but not talk to the planet you get low power and what that does it drop the signal down so that it drops closer to and stays within you know within the minimal distance range of the transceiver so that everybody's talking close back and forth it's not a p a still was for general broadcast but it's uh... it's a way to reduce signature and in a military environment i would typically keep it low key anyway Low power only because again like I said, there's a couple issues here number one. Yes I know we don't want to be intercepted So don't use your radio any more than you have to always remember that guys number two. You're on a battlefield now Everybody's radios are going to be on this is why the military now remember CB is a.m. That's what's got long it. That's what's got long reach long arms That's why it's a better choice for the moment anyway But this is why the military loved FM. What does FM do? FM only goes out so far and it drops off real quick and it's like you're at a wall. You actually don't have a buffer or a jump unless you've got a really cruddy antenna. Especially with high-powered. With high-powered you can have bleed that can create other signal transmissions off the same system, which is why you have filters and everything else attached. and are there's a very raw harmonic resonators that are designed to be sensitized and confirm that only the f m frequency that you want is what you get plus no additional broadcast that are going to interfere with other radio and this is true with the big heavy stuff you don't have to worry about this at the little guy at with the like personal transceivers and stuff you're buying like the f m the phf u h f or whatever But FM drops off real quick. Now if you have, well let's put it this way, we got 30,000 troops plus, you know, we got bat faggots, we got whatever, think about all the turds piling up in Washington for the Communists, okay? Guys, if they had to start battle chattering in squawk, if I'm over on, say, the other part of Washington, D.C. fighting against a Patriot Army unit or a Patriot Marine unit versus a Communist Army unit or a Communist Guard unit, then what's going to happen is you know you're going to have radio clutter that's going to create confusion so first of all minimize second of all you'll designate frequencies which is why do this with any military radio so you subdivide within the area of activity otherwise if you're all on channel three so to speak i get to hear bob talking to fred they're in a fire maneuver action played half the city away and i'm gonna get here every moment of it i don't need to See, so this is another reason FM was really desirable for command and control operations under certain conditions. They have a better medical support element than probably anybody else. It's just the nature of where the guys came from, who was in the military before, what kind of military units or, you know, guard units and regular army units were in that area. And a lot of the guys that slid sideways and got disgusted before have helped to recruit and build up a massive medical support element which will be priceless down the road, not just for Pennsylvania, but for the overall campaign.
