Then I came over here and I stuck them in the ground, stood them up, and then I tied them all together with two by fours or something to get it all upright. And then of course we started framing and then for insulation I used straw bales. I just built a platform for these straw bales to sit on and those things are first off they're cheap and they're about a foot and a half, two foot wide or whatever. So it's not necessarily insulation but it works. And once you get in there, campers do not have any insulation to speak of to begin with. And so the more air you stop from moving around, you know, the wind and the rain and all this stuff. So I just threw a roof over the top of that with the straw bales underneath and that's what we parked in. That was it. We were nice and cozy with our little propane heater and the camper. You know, we had everything that we needed and that's how it worked for me. But you know, sometimes I think people get the idea that it has to be this way or it has to be that way. No, man, just use your common sense. Take the materials that you can afford to purchase, which is what I did at the time, and make it work for you. If somebody handed me a piece of land in Nevada, I said, here, you can have this. Oh, well, it's not located in the right spot. Make it the right spot. It's up to you to adapt to. My question would be, okay, how far away is the nearest water? We don't have any water on the property. And then if you have no way to sustain yourself or something, maybe a little bit of creativity comes into place. For example, maybe I went down and bought a big plastic something or another and I threw it on the back of my pickup truck and I can haul water. Well, if there's other people living out there, they don't have water either, maybe you become the water service, you know, well, once a month we're going to go around and fill everybody up. It's going to cost you 10, 20 bucks, whatever you come up with and make it all work for you. You have to be a little creative. When you're outside the system, when you're not hooked to the grid, you're not doing what everybody else is doing, you have to create what it is that you require. And if you're not willing to do that, then you're going to suffer. You're going to, well, oh, gee, I don't have any water. Well, I can't go there because there's no water. Well... There's water available somewhere on this planet. Where's the closest thing and how are you going to get to it? That's the idea anyway. Well that's how I get my water here. I put 275 gallon tote in my back and I bring it back and I fill mother's hope. Well there you go. So you can just as well at some point in time buy a 2,000 gallon tank, dig a hole in the ground, drop it in the hole. And then whenever you go to town for some beans and weenies or something, be sure to pick up a tote full of water and just keep pumping in that tank so that you always have water. Get a system going that works for you. And then when other people see what you're doing, they're going to ask, hey, could you bring us some water because we don't have a tank and stuff. We can get this tank, but we can't afford to transport it or whatever. Like I said, it takes a little bit of engineering creativity. and participation, making it all work for you is my point. We did the same thing with the straw bales where we put them and we laid them out around a windbreak for a railroad. And the side effect of that was for when it was a nice night and you had friends over and why would I cut that I just, you know, right on top of the, that it was necessary. But, you know, it made it a little nicer to sit. I said, you know, I can wash the windows without having to get anything out. You know, you always end up with these little side benefits that you love. What you end up doing is a fraction and then the roof and membrane left on a couple of different jobs. It wasn't all just one. And I got it for free. It helped me get all the roofs that you skirt underneath removable. And when we move it, big awful amount of money for an RV and it looks every bit as nice and it's quicker than Well there's another thing you know, nice. You know people can get past that. Let's get with what works instead of what looks nice. You know what? If it looks pretty too, that's a bonus. Especially with the lights. Hey you two guys, you hang on there. But you have to notice as time goes on, as time goes on, as life continues on, Different things happen. Somebody drives by one day, hey man, I got all this siding left over from this job. I don't know what to do with it. I had a cement truck stop by here one day. They couldn't use all the cement or something, whatever. And if I had some forms out or something, I could have poured a patio or whatever. Just different things happen. And it doesn't have to look like, you know, Crap City when everybody drives by your abode there, whatever you manage to construct. Because if you're unhappy with it, you'll keep working on it and you'll keep working on it. And it'll look better and as each little minute $30 paycheck comes in, you'll get a, you know, a window for five bucks or, you know, this is what I was looking for. And it's just a matter of taking your time. And you can construct what it is that you're requiring, what you need, it's just not going to all happen while you stand there and just fork out all the money, oh, oh, here I want this kind of roof and I want this kind of siding and I want this much insulation and have this big bankroll. Take your time, man. Takes time you're gonna have to suffer a little bit you might have to you know if you have a cold winter or something But you know that I'm not doing this next winter. So you have to set the trail, the track, you know, and where are you going to go and how are you going to go about doing it and just stick with it. It'll all come around. It'll be exactly what you want it to be by the time it's over. It just takes a little time. Like I said, I bought a raw piece of land out here. It had nothing on it. Now we have a house here, a barn. I've got a garage here. We punched in our own well. I got a bunkhouse to the back of the property. This all wasn't thrown up and this was the plan. Let's do it. Now this has come together over a period of the last 20 years as necessity required is what I'm saying. It takes miles and patience. Yeah, that's it. If you have a vision in your mind of what you are, this is how I want to live, these are the conveniences or comforts that I want, that you will accumulate those one at a time. That's how it will come together. You will accumulate those one at a time because it's necessity. You know, water. Yeah, you know you're going to need water. So somehow you're going to put together a way to have water. And you're not going to be able to do this. Like I tell my children, nothing's going to happen until you get there. If you sit here thinking something's going to happen over there, it's not going to happen. You have to go there. You have to be there. And after you're there, then it happens. Because you know what needs to be done. Nobody else. You have to be happy with what you... It's like, oh, you're homeless. I said, no, I have a tent. As long as I have a tent, I am not homeless. They said, well, you can't do that. I said, excuse me. Why can I not buy a trailer? Don't need a house. Yeah, you know if people would just get to the simplicity of it all You're right. You don't need a house You can certainly build one over a period of time if that's what you want to do, but you don't need it what you need is a Shelter of some sort to keep you out of the weather and someplace to cook your food, you know wash yourself That's right. That's all you need Yeah, like I have neighbors that live in shit unless I said no they're not living within their means. I'd say it's about a 12 by 18 or a little piece of profit, which is less than a quarter acre. It'd be a whole lot cheaper on his resources. Well, you see, that's what you're saying. If people understood, you know, bottom, when you think about solar, how am I going to put a solar system up? Hell, you got a computer, you got a book, is there a library somewhere? You can figure out solar power. And you can also figure out, you know, but you have to soak yourself into it. It just doesn't come to you, you know, you have to soak yourself into it and understand how the system works. Because if it breaks down, guess what? You're the one that's going to fix it. Unless you've got a pocket full of money. If you pay somebody to come in and put you in a big solar system and a generator and all this other stuff, just like any other person, you know, when the lights go out, oh man, we've got to call the repair guy. Would it not be better that you knew how to put it together how it works last year? Almost four weeks. I didn't know I had no problem with power, right? I got the whole panel sitting in the front yard and behind my trailer. Yeah when I first came here It was a real treat for us. You have to learn you relearn appreciation We only ran the generator when we wanted to know listen to our battle charge. Yeah, I've charged some batteries or whatever And if we weren't doing that, then the generator was off, period. We did without. But you see, people are so conditioned to all the conveniences of life that they've grown into and been provided that they will not suffer themselves. You know, oh, we can't live without electricity, or we can't live without... Yes, you can. This morning, I woke up. It was 18 degrees, so I turned my generator on to get my electric heater to give out. There's the inconvenience. Oh man. Experienced that a million times. I can't tell you how many times I crawled back in the sleeper. That truck woke up in the morning, freezing my butt off. I just lean out and turn my feet. So much fun, isn't it? They don't, you know, they want all the conveniences of life, you know, of course the bankers, they want you to go out there and buy that home, man, because they, you are their bank account. That's what that ends up. I admire those who just take it upon themselves, put together whatever. That's the beauty of Idaho County out here in Idaho. There is no building codes. The only thing you require, they require is you put in a subject system that you buy a permit for. They won't run any electricity onto your property unless you have that permit. You don't have to put it in, you just have to buy the permit. And that's it. We all know by now that the only reason you're borrowing money from the bank is to basically go rent their house from them because if you don't finish the contract that you've created, they're going to come and take their house back and give it to somebody else. If you went out there and built something like what we're discussing here this morning, you'd involve campers and pole buildings and all this, and you did it one piece at a time. Maybe you did like I did, just went out and got some poles and got a draw knife and skin those things off and chainsaws and put it all together yourself. Well, that bank isn't interested in that because you haven't met all their codes and you haven't wired it properly. You know, whatever the case may be. And no, it's not resellable. Well, if your life is all about, well, I've got an investment here. Well, that investment you have to understand, it's for you, it's your investment. And somebody else appreciates that investment, you know, let them pay cash like you paid cash to build the place, if that's what it comes to. But as long as you keep going through life with the mindset that you know, this is what I have to have I have you know, I have to have a bathroom and running water, you know All the things that we expect or require of the home that we might purchase through the financial system You don't have to just let that go let it go and ask yourself. Okay. What am I really require? What do I need? That's not a matter of want. What do you need? You need shelter And you can go down on Skid Row somewhere and ask all those people, what's so important? Well, they're going to tell you shelter. And that's why they get their tarps and, you know, whatever they got. They're using cardboard boxes. That's their shelter. So they grabbed all the things, the minimal things that they need in order to survive. That's what you're looking at. One of the things you have an advantage, especially the base rule is start all We're from Michigan where they put salt on the road, okay? And like, those states were like, yeah, all just out in, what was it, bottom of Indiana. They don't use salt, not the way we do. And these guys are shooting up cars. I would have dragged away, if I'd done what they were doing when I watched the video they sent me, it's like, you know, because they were finishing some training, it's like, what did you just do? And they're like, what? Well, there's just, there's 50. And he goes, let's It's like, yeah, it's an old truck. And up here you can... And those wheels go round and round just like that you had. You can turn it up here and sold it for $1,000. You do realize that, right? And it's like, what? And nobody thinks that way because where you are, in many cases, you don't realize what you've got in your, you know, available and you're in the way of resources. Spend money on it, okay? Once you fix it, it's yours. Okay? You keep fixing it. If everybody always tells me, I can't afford a truck because it's like $20,000, $30,000. Well, not everybody said that. But a lot of people would tell you that it's like, whoa, stop here. How about you get a nice truck for a few hundred dollars, $600, $700 at the most. You can find a decent truck. It's got an okay engine. In other words, it serves. It's not pretty. In fact, a lot of times the reason I see these, they got dented. Break off the hammer, thud it out from the inside, take off a panel, learn to use some wrenches. otherwise just fixing the thing up it's mechanical it's not pretty you're not looking for pretty you're looking for a workhorse once you have the truck everything else everybody else is getting rid of is yours everybody understand that that's your tool that's your bucket with four wheels and they can carry half a ton or three-quarters how simple do you think it is to work on a car that was built in 1940 You you won't know really because it looks too simple. Yeah, it looks you look at the hood you go What the hell where the end you go you can open the hood and get in there with the motor and close to it warm yourself up. Yeah That's true guys. That's one of the things we've explained. It's like when you compare well How do we go from this with this horsepower? In fact half the horsepower is being used to run half the junk that really was added for the sake of just adding junk junk, which is useless, but They do this when you look and think about all the crisis in disaster movies. We could never build this. Guys, I will point out like I did about Smokeless. Smokeless part was invented before electricity. Understand that everything that Henry Ford did with his car, his first cars were built where? They were built from such in his garage foundries. Little Iron foundries, no bigger than my garage, made his parts. Do you all understand that? When he made his first motor, it wasn't something that you put in a Mustang, it was something you put in, what are they? Now, we went from that to more sophisticated and more sophisticated as far as building up power. And we had the technology to do it even when Ford first built his early road. Yeah, with all the technologies and information we have at our fingertips these days, there is no reason on this earth for you not to be able to educate yourself, teach yourself things, Like I'm suggesting, if you want a solar system, put it together yourself so you know how it works. Build one. Build your house, your home, your shelter, whatever you want to title it as. When you start with a truck and the truck gets you all the other freebies and things that are out there we're talking about, that way you can, again, get a truck, find a piece of land. and don't just dump stuff, but like I said, with the eyes cannot see, the heart does not long for. Pick a spot on the property, if you've got an access way, and make it so it's camouflaged. You know, shield it. You know, you were talking about moving plants. Put in shrubbery, put in other stuff, and don't just do lines. Make it look kind of natural. And that's your depot where you start dropping bricks. Let me give you an example. Go to Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace. Guys, you know how many tons of brick I could go pick up today right now, just money area here. And brick, construction material. You know, Joey, you guys were talking about skirting for the people don't think about, but consider this. Hot tubs are free all over the place. For a lot of different things, of course, it could be used as a hot tub. A lot of the newer ones, although the Fancher, Biner, Wood usually feeder. The sonic panels on the lion's share of the hot tubs are rectangular panels. If you look at them, you know, the width and the length of the hot tub. Now guys, those are a double-panel plastic and they're insulated to a degree simply by having as a channel between the two panels of plastic. They're very rigid and what's neat is corner pieces. You have to screw the corner pieces. You'll see rectangular panels on the side. Guys, most of those are solid. Some of them have holes in them for stereos or for control points or whatever. Grab all the covers that go with those, unscrew them, they all come apart with a screw gun, okay? And those panels can either be left at height, and you can make a mobile unit, you know, mobile wraparound where you can literally lay these side by side, and you screw them together. I actually use these for a number of different projects. I'm part of the greenhouse that we put together using the PVC pipe. I do the lower panels in those now with the five panels from the hot tubs designed with a massive amount of IR protection so they don't break down. Why? Well, most of you guys put your hot tubs out on the back porch in the sunshine on the sunny side of the house, outside and they get burned all the time. Here's another neat trick. You notice those covers that go on the hot tub? Have you noticed how they don't break down real easy? Those make the best stinking vehicle covers and you know like for instance covered with one for two years it still looks like when I picked it up. Every time I use it, you know these are all things where it didn't cost me anything and what's nice is the cover even has handles. When I want to pick it up I can grab it by the handles and move it around as far as the cover goes. Those panels can be used for any number of different projects or you know you can cut them down. So easy it's ridiculous or easy to work with and they're double walled and they will not break down enough breakdown like plastic like you see the beads, the way plastic beads on older cars doesn't do that. Breakdown in the sun, it has a massive amount of IR protection. So if you're thinking about going out to the desert like we were talking about, these would be a thing to collect from a number of different points up and then take out and you know that if you have to leave about in the weather if you want to build something, you see, just a little above ground. Or if you need something used for making side panels for anything, it's going to be a good choice, rigid enough that they only need a little bit of backing to a free stand. In fact, a free stand, two by twos will hold them up and you just put them all together. For the campers, that could be you cut them to size, you number them, and when you drop it a place like if you're a construction worker like our one caller was, or if you're, let's say you're just building a gadfly, you're going to one place to the next, you can make a nice set of skirts with hot tub skirting. And here's the thing, for the end where the corners are, you take the corner pieces that were made for the hot tub, And you use those as the resist to make thing a little nicer like we were talking about here too. You make it look a little nicer so it's more presentable. So simple is ridiculous. There's all kinds of building material out there. The big thing is, A, get something to move stuff with. Oh and you can also by the way go to Craigslist, get placed. That will get you freebies. In fact it would even be worth it to actually have a team that does nothing but that to cover materials which you could then use in your retreat or let's say you've got a place like where Joe is, you have people helping out and they collect and you bring the stuff back into an area, all sorted, all to a project. You're throwing people where they need to be and minimizing it. Now here's another example, I'll tell you what, it's like man, once again, try hull boats, try hull boats either for free, like right now, two of them for $100. Beautiful condition, I actually looked at one of these the other day. You try hull boats on They've even got Mercury motors on them. You got any water nearby? You're nearby. Having a boat would be kind of nice. Having a boat on standby, don't worry about paper or licensing it. Get it put together, covers and everything else or make a little quant we're talking about. And you've got yourself a mode of transport that when the time comes is on standby, a drop of the water and things go to hell in the hand cart. You're not gonna be worried about licenses. There's all kinds of these. I just want a marketplace. These two boats are sitting right here. And an example is Oh, a Browning M250 caliber. Yeah, I know. I just like, whoa, wait a minute. I didn't expect that, Joe, to come up with a Facebook marketplace for a sake, but... Yeah, there you go. Oh, okay. It's a semi. Yeah, very good. Oh, wow. I got to remember, I'm going to talk to those people after we're done with the program. I got the doctors down there. Oh, they got more money than I do. That won't say more money in brands because they're pretty stinking smart. They've been building militias up. They could buy that thing tonight, today. But guys, tools, another thing. It doesn't even have to be the best tools right away because everybody always tells me I only have so much money. Get on the table with some tools first. Go to supply, go to whatever, watch for their markdowns. You can build up a little inventory so you can do basic maintenance. Then the next step is start watching the estate sales or systematically invest in the best quality tool that you can afford. Set up an inventory. Once you have them, they're yours. It's not like you have to buy another one next week. Okay, these are long-term investments that will save your life, but also make your life more comfortable. And for our other friends out there traveling around, might want to think about places that are out of sight, out of mind, and out of the way, and goes up there on the rocks and cami-eye, and you got friendly people around. It'll be at least a good place to have a little gadfly location where you put a little slab down, put a little building up, put some goodies there, put them underground so that they are a little easier to keep without heat.
