Fast and easy for those of you that are just beginning canning. These are operations, you know, once it's in the jar and having to put the jars in water and let them process something you don't have to do with those to rest in right now. Very easy and it's clean your head. The cabbage really sit in there good. Clean the lollipop very thinly. Of course, have your jars and lids, the cabbage, salt, and a tablespoon of vinegar. as tight as you can. Run a natural down, make sure you have all the air. You have it on a shelf. Make sure it's covered with, because you may have some wear-a-sip in it to help keep it good. And then the fermentation, right place right there in the jar, and there's no skumps to this. You don't have to go back and loose down. If it doesn't want to stay down, one thing I did this year, dry with the, we turned it upside down, it holds the, you know, half the floating. And that's the thing that you will have with and not, you do not want to blanch your cabbage because then it will not ferment properly. You may, you'll end up doing that, put the lens, set it on a shelf. You want a little paper there. I've never had any problem with that. What pets is that? And if you want to, put it on a plastic tray lined with that on the shelf so that if you have any spillage that that is taken care of. And of course, you can just buy, you know, picking up throwing away the newspaper, wiping the shelf. the trade down. Easy and something anybody can do if you want to do it in in plants and cut that cut that breast feed down in half that's very easy and it's something to go with easy way to do it without having to again it's something that you're not having to buy later on down the line you've got it right now to have it just really cheap 20 cents a pound small head to large head doesn't really make any difference because you're going to you're going to be chopping it finally to go in this recipe center, you can get it. Think about, very easy, those people like to do. It's not going to take up an entire day to do, $10 billion in ounces, and more ingredients to add to it, shall we say it is. What's just easier than that, the vinegar. And at the end, this is one that anybody can do in any kitchen, anywhere in the US, that they can pull out later. Again, it's something. fermented food that we have on our diets. Pumpkins, a lot of people think pumpkin, they think pumpkin pie. There's so many things that can be done with pumpkin. And it's been such a good crop, the cookies. You can do with that bread from pumpkin to your yeast bread, some nuts, a little cinnamon. And you have really good bread sliced and turned into French toast in the morning. phenomenal. These recipes are out there folks and it's easy to find and easy things for finding different ways to use pureed pumpkins. If you're just going to do plain canned pumpkins, you're cooking it up, putting it in jars. A little more in a cooker is not something you want to do. You don't have a pressure cooker then you're going to want to freeze, which is something else you can do. Put it into the freezer in containers and you can cook that up. and the chunks or slices, dry it, and then, oh goodness, I like to use old peanut butter jars. Once it's dry, if you're shooting for soup, things you want to use it for, rehydrate it, and then cook it up, whatever you want to do with the syrup. It doesn't have to be maple syrup. You can do other things. If you have availability of pickering nuts, tans, take that and use it. Make it up with flavored syrup. your local nuts over that. And it is very, almost gourmet. Something you can do. And it's not going to cost you a lot to do because it doesn't take a lot of nuts flavor using either brown sugar depending on what you want to do. And a lot of people, once you get that melted down in your nuts and there and make up a good. In most cookbooks, you will find, oh, there's a you're also going to find making syrup will be there too. And that's something that you can actually take, not just make it up to use at a later day. And those are also sweet potatoes. Last time we were talking on our chair with Don about hard squires to keep them. And life care problems from coast to coast. They will get in and if you're going into the cooler months and storing food and they're going to go where there's food, they can get into your house size and it will get in. One of the things that you can do if you can take newspaper and individually rash one and put it in a basket and it has been regular or it's mice can chew through. So if you can take the out screen basket that's metal a screening. Another thing is if you've got the stackable crates that are available. Mark and I picked those up at the resale shop. to nothing. Sometimes people bring stuff and they drop it off. They were throwing them away at first. I think they saw us pick it up too many of them. So they put them out for sale for a buck or two. Instead of the seven or eight, they go for it. So line that with a hardware cloth. Now you can use either a plastic metal hardware cloth and then line that with your screenings, metal screenings, so that the mice can't wear cloth. They're going to go right through. They're too big. A metal screening, your picture flavor. Whether it be aluminum or whatever is out there that is it's going to be a thing if you use a fiberglass or plastic They're gonna eat right through it this way your your squash from a from touching each other with the newspaper If there's any dad once you just work them out with the newspaper and toss it Quickly that will that will help on the other thing by putting the screening on there Can't get to it and that's that's when you want to make sure up is that you've got you got it sealed up pretty good so that they're not getting in. You can either put half of it, either more screening or you can put a metal plate to keep them from getting into important things to think about. Food for you. You worked awful hard, you know, to go out there and pay for it or you went out there and you used the ground and you grew these things. You really don't want to share them with local wildlife. Hard enough time with that in the garden itself. Things are growing. I know I lost quite a few tomatoes too. They came up and decided my almost ripe tomatoes looked awfully good. Keeping them out of my garden was a challenge. Staked tomatoes this year. They didn't fry it. Well I'll take a bite out of this one and a bite out of that one and a bite out of this one and another one. So it irritated me. I was not a happy camper. The first I was thinking, what are my cats doing this? Because I used to have a dog that would do that. We had to dog out by the garden to keep the critters away. I get out there, I go to bed at night, and there's beautiful orange tomatoes. Ready, you know it's going to be red right in the morning. So up into the next hand, it's gone. I got up early one morning, and I'm looking out back, and I'm prepping my cup of coffee, and here's the dog coming out of the dog house. Very gently pull them at something to take them to the dog house and show them. Oh my gosh, okay, okay, this is networking. Damn, the deer. We put it out, we put the dog out there by it to keep the deer out and then come to find out. Oh no, the deer were coming up and sleeping with the dog. It was like, okay, this is networking. Yeah, okay. That was, no. Oh my gosh, you want to... they... what are the carrots? Carrots, they sell carrots and apples here. Second, I put them in the ground. It's like they're... they come in. We got to go... to stop that, we went down to the barber shop and the dollar store. At the dollar store to get those little round pieces of knitting they sell to rice in to throw. Barber shop for hair clippings. Yes, I did. But the oil in the hairs and hang them on the fence line to work And it does it's that human thing keeps them away And we do that my wonderful big dog the second day we had him no more coyotes They saw his they smelt him and saw his droppings and Well his big 240 pounds of like a line through a jackal. Yeah, that was amazing have a problem with coyotes and he'd let us be hired with me. We'd have to get him and he'd fluff him out. He didn't fluff outside. You know, him marking his territory here was enough to keep them down and away, enough to the point where the turkey is closer to the house now. With him marking his territories, and there's just, you know, the coyotes just weren't coming up unless he was really, really hungry. Yeah, before we got him, they would, they'd come. There was a couple of days I was late to work because Yeah, the DNR here will tell you they only run a tax of maybe four to five and it's like not where you come over here and tell me that. I'm looking at 15 to 20 in my front yard between my front door and my car, which is like 30. No, no, they're pretty much the whole track along the line of your property. Actually, the parks will go in and send the deer herd out every year, but they let those coyotes just breed like crazy. Yeah, that just makes sense. Come up and, you know, steal your... Right? This is kind of a crazy thing. But yeah, just, you know, picking up from where we were talking last night about vision and what to do, how to keep mice out of the... out of the root cellar. Things like that. Yeah, hardware cloth around our stuff and then line it with metal screws. We'll keep them out. New bigger animals, the hardware cloth will work even outside hanging a deer. They'll come up if they can't get to it if you use a cage of hardware cloth. I know you were talking about Joe doing that. You could do that easily, make a cage. You would frame up and put hard rock around it and then put hanger deer inside that and I'll put a meat hook in there to hang it. And then drop what you need. Stay closer. Right, Renate, along with... So, red coons will come out from time to time. Wow. Two miles west of the sea side. He wanted pet bears. Yeah, he's got one male, one female. Oh gosh, this was a clear fact. When we got Bruce, he's like, they found Bear Prince out back. And I'm like, yeah, oh god, it's Bruce, you know? Because that's how big his paws were. If I put my hand out, open my fingers up, that was Bruce's. And it's like, oh god, no, no, no, it's just my dog. It's as big as he is. No, no, no, they found his bear. So no, he got one male, one female, and they had cubs. baby got out, mama's coming through. No, they ain't gonna keep mama away. That's right. They both got loose. We're up and down the river here where all these homes are on the river. Oh, that's like natural hemp. Yeah, well with all the berries, spring, oh my gosh, all summer long, and then daddy got loose. Cute before the Dexter Bears, and then daddy got loose and it was not so good. We saw one night where a bear was chasing I'm like, that ain't no coyote. That's too big. But no, no. I think they captured the male. But they take mama down, trying to get the baby. Baby got caught, and mama was too smart to get in the trap. So they had to put her down. I don't know what they did with the baby, but if they got similarly domesticated, if they were taught to open things. Yeah, it just makes me think, if the bear learned to open a door using handles. Hey, the bear's in the hose! Yeah, no, it's too funny, cause, uh, oh gosh. We're at the bottom of the hour. Sorry to go there folks. There was a fuck of these messages from the micro effect. The metal screening inside that hardware cloth, hardware cloth being the first layer in the metal screen because it gives it a bigger, better frame, critters out. that you don't want to get into something we had looked at before. What are we going to do? How can we do this fast and easy? You know, I can't just bury a plastic bag in the ground. Critter's going to get into it. And that was one of the survival magazines that I was reading. They had taken the plastic bag inside hardware cloth with a smaller gauge. Bigger creep critters from getting down into it. But I think you know if you talk of mice, mice can get in through that hardware cloth easily. You need to line that hardware cloth with a screen, a metal screen to keep them from getting into it. But you know even if you're looking up there, the hardware cloth is not going to use that. You have to get in the heartbeat. Pretty destructive. What's the odds? I wouldn't think that would be very likely. Right, but then once it's inside and it's mauling the seats and the dash signer anymore, Or do they sink the back seat? Probably spill.
