Mark Koernke and Joe McNeil discussed the advantages of 1973-1987 Chevrolet pickup trucks, Suburbans, and Blazers as reliable, maintainable vehicles for preparedness and self-sufficiency. They explained extensive parts interchangeability across these models, engine swap capabilities, fuel efficiency modifications, and the availability of aftermarket parts through suppliers like LMC. The hosts contrasted Chevrolet's plug-and-play compatibility with the difficulties of swapping engines in Ford and Chrysler vehicles. Callers shared personal experiences with the durability and reliability of Chevy engines, particularly the inline-six 250 and the 350 small block. The discussion emphasized practical mechanical knowledge, parts availability, and the importance of owning vehicles that can be maintained and repaired without modern computer systems during economic collapse scenarios.

They are cleaning the place up a little more adding and completing the outside one of the buildings because we've got good weather then. All the decoration we're having the potluck for the end of the year because 15 is going to be exciting to say the least. Guys guys they're gonna have lasagna competition on top of that. I can move. I can move Michigan. Oh my goodness. I can move This is a good life! We have this is like five and they're really I'll keep buying them because I can run them for a period of time cheap But the custom Chevy the custom, you know, not just your Michigan actually build them in Canada GMC the built in Canada. Yeah, we're built in Toronto And in fact, man up there is where they did the crew cab plant. Right? Well, let me let me put that out there that GMC and the Chevy pickups are the same Yeah, one says GMC the other one says Chevrolet. Okay, guess what? You can even take that tailgate off the government did. After the Oklahoma City bombing, there was the mention of a truck, foreign looking in. Now the individuals that were grabbed here, in other words, they went back to Israel, some of the bombers that got caught that you weren't supposed to. And they tried to tell everybody guys that the Chevy truck that they grabbed, it was another color truck. It was cute. The government got it. Then they concealed that they got it. Then they let go of the Israeli bombers who were the actual bombers in the Oklahoma City bombing. And then they held the truck for like a year, almost a year and a half. And then they gave the truck back to the owner. But before they did, guys, you know what the government did? They took the tailgate off and it went from being a Chevy truck to being a GMC truck. So they could say, no, we didn't pick up a Chevy truck. We picked up a GMC truck though. What you don't have, you would know the difference, right? But it's that, that you see spares sees lie. And then on top of that, you know what else the government did for the guy, you know, Joe, completely repainted his truck another color. Okay. That was so kind. That was so kind. Now guys, normally when the government returns stuff to you, it will be scratched. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. but they made sure not only that they, oh they, except for whatever reason, you see the truck had been stolen by some Middle Eastern looking individuals that, you know, were wearing chemicals. Well, we're not supposed to know that. And so the truck was stolen for the attack on the Murr Building. The guys were grabbed by police. The feds came in and said, oh no, these are special oil boys. Just like what happened after 9-11 with all the Israelis being caught with all the nuclear material down around the sea area this many times. Well this pickup truck was then grabbed by the Fed. Originally the story ran because if you have all the videos like we do from the satellite feeds and from the Oklahoma City bombing event, that Chevy truck was infirmed, identified, and then they were told, now you don't talk to the bombers who really did it, they did get caught. You have to write back over to it, okay. Too many people knew about it because the county, you know, were other people. They had to give it back and it's one of those weird things where it's like, why not just say it was shredded and burned like everything else. Well, when they did have to give it back, they turned right around, they changed parts of GMC trucks. No, that's that. And the guy even said, the owner said, this is really strange because like, that's not the tailgate. He goes, that's not the tailgate of my truck. And they completely painted my truck a different color. And I don't know why they did that. Now, this guy actually said this and it was like, he was just kind of perplexed because it's like, why would they do that? So they could change the story. Well, just so everybody knows, you have GMC is made in Canada Chevrolet, which of course produced in the United States and still all parts exchange. Any Chevrolet, say if you take an Impala, let's work with a 350 engine here for just a second. Any 350 engine in any Chevrolet product in those years and farther back Will drop right in great right out. No no problem whatsoever if you want to get into some of the really technical Aspects of things you can do for example four-wheel drive Chevy's are not known for high fuel mileage And like the one we just got you putting together Obviously it had an automatic rear end in it. Okay, so rear ends you have a gear ratios from an automatic to a standard are going to be somewhat different and what I mean by that is You have high gears and low gears and trucks are built for 3 quarter ton versus a half ton. Well swapping out transmissions for example doesn't make any difference. Automatic, pseudo stick shift. Except that when you take an automatic transmission out you also had a different gear ratio in that automatic transmission that went to the different rear ends. So when you take a standard shift and put it in a pickup truck that was built with an automatic, you're going to get a little bit different fuel, a better fuel mileage because of the gear ratios. Your fuel mileage is not in the engine, it's in the gear ratios that you're running on your pickup truck or anything else for that matter. I'll give you an example. The last truck I bought for myself after I put about 500 or 600,000 miles on it, I took the transmission out and I turned the gears around in a fuller 13 speed and made it an overdrive and an overdrive. Now a 13 speed is you go from the main box to the overdrive, to the main box to the overdrive. It's an air switch that goes back and forth. I'm trying to keep this simple. But when I turned the gears around on the transmission, it made it an overdrive to an overdrive. So at top end, for example, in the number 13 hole, I was doing 72 miles an hour in the number 13 hole last year. When I turned the gears around on the transmission and put it all back together, now at top end and the 13 speed, you would be tacking 2200 RPM doing 72 mile an hour. Man, that's sucking up some fuel. So I turned the transmission around, made it an overdrive with an overdrive, and I would be in 12th gear at 1600 rpm doing 72 mile an hour. Okay, so what that meant is by the time I walked it up to 2200 rpm in 12th gear, I was doing about 87 miles an hour and still had one more gear to go. The gear ratios that you're dealing with, you know, as far as fuel mileage, the manufacturers know this. If you put a standard shift in an automatic truck, Okay, you're going to get a few more miles to the gallon because of the gear ratios is the point I'm trying to make. Chevrolet, the reason I'm speaking of Chevrolet, yeah I know everybody had a good Bronco, they had a good Jeep, something or another, but parts availability and the interchange of those particular vehicles, you have to find for example a Bronco with a 302 in it. If you find a Bronco with a 351, you got a problem. If you find a Bronco with a 400 you have a problem. The problem is the parts do not interchange. Yeah, you might get one or two with a little bit of this and a little bit of that, but it's not going to just unbolt, put it on the other one and bolt it right back up. In Chevrolet, Chevrolet, you can interchange everything. And for example, on a steering pump, if you have a power steering pump, off of an 82 versus an 87 or even a 75, whatever it is you're trying to do. The only difference you're going to find is which way the power steering hose is pointed to, on the back of the pump pointing this way, that way, or what have you. All you have to do is take the steering pump apart, take the lines off that you need, switch it over to the other one, and throw it on. For the sake of routing, that's all, but it actually does work. plug and play all you have to do is know what you're doing and of course we're not going to get rid of the other one anyway guys because some day you might just need a spare and have to take a part yeah you have a parts house sitting behind the garage the best thing to do here too is basic rules if you're changing out the distributor cap don't be if you don't have one make up a little kit leave the octopus all you got to do is stick in a make up a tool bag now you can go there's things you can go oh well let's go with this Distributors, as far as distributor goes, there's two kinds. You can get the kind that you put points in. Of course you have to buy the points and know how to set a dwell on your points. Or you can go to AGI ignition, which is more of a, it's a better ignition system. They can't set it off. Okay, and again, you get better a few months. There is all kind of things, but like Mark was saying, do not throw anything away. Even small parts or anything that's sealed, this is one thing. We're not doing it right now. Because even though you have cheap parts right now if something happens like everybody's worried about which is typically the case You need to be able to start you once you figure out what that that tool does Then you can and again you will it you know necessity is the mother of invention One of the things to remember is that part mixtures on it It's not that you know that what it does we can mimic But how it plugs into something you know making up battery and then hook that up to your car batteries. It's a 12-volt drill Well the same is true if you have say, stuff guys is really pretty straightforward on the older vehicles. The mid-range stuff, not too bad. New stuff, it's all garbage. It's all, it's all chipped. And when it goes bad it will not be thick. But the era of truck we're talking about isn't. And if you don't have rubber state, we have metal mods here. We have salt on the road. Oh yes. Yeah, because you see that's what you hate. Because I've gone to other states around the flight line. And we have a whole flow. Some you've never even seen. I have one Chevy truck and guys for all we've talked about the Air Force by some of the most off the wall stuff not because and have custom order this stuff wheel drive with a you can't get it you can't get it from from GM just like same way it's another Air Force pipeline truck design if you have a problem you've got to read and because of the way it was built now you're not gonna run this with 99% as a point we know we can't if I ran into them I know I can't go out by have it they never the rest of these Chevy trucks everything that Joe's talking about guys all those cuckpey parts cleaner change with your snow command you know the snow commander and all the other different trucks that were built in the same era to include Suburbans yeah Suburbans, Blazers, Chevy pickup trucks if it's got a square body if we think about it this way the next body is the 80 Chevy's they asked about the Ford's and they specifically mentioned the Bronco Bronco was recommended for a number of years as a real space we're not a small people Joe you're not a small guy you know Yes, sir. Okay, well getting a small vehicle is not conducive to comfort or operational, you know, potential. Right. Big Broncos were a good choice. Now we got guys who have a whole fleet of Broncos have got like 22 Broncos. In fact, anytime they see one, even if they go grab it. Here's something to think about with Chevy's and Chevy got the contract because of the back in 1965, 66, the federal department of defense, the donut of destruction, along with civil defense wanted a total contract vehicle that met all of that. They were talking World War 3 back in the 60s weren't they? Now they're talking World War... Now think about this. They designed the 1967 Chevy truck. It is the only truck produced during that era or any other that completely meets the civil defense new... The 67 Chevy truck was also the most heavily researched and engineered truck Chevy ever made. How do I know this? Oh, and I know people who were the engineers. In fact, the guy that I grew up with, one of the guys I grew up with, his dad worked on the project. Okay, so we know all about the history of that. Unfortunately, his mom passed away a lot of questions and he's like, oh yeah, let me tell you about that. The 67 Chevy was the most heavily researched and engineered truck, but everything they did and learned from it. went into any of the designs for the next 10 years after that. Well, if you look, the 67, then they changed out 68 model. Then the 69, then there's that 70 to 72 window where those vehicles kind of match. The 73 was because of one, well, the thing you're talking about here, parts interchangeability was mandatory. Available components assemblies, but fusible linkage and EMP threat had to be calculated. These trucks are actually to a degree hardened. 67 is actually the best Chevy truck as a survival vehicle, and I pointed this out like when you see the movie, television series, Gerica comes out and she's got a 67 Chevy, she goes, it's an old clunker and it doesn't run well, and it's not your first choice, you know, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, oh yeah it is. And they did that intentionally because people watch television and go, you hear that? That old Chevy truck, stupid. That 67 Chevy that they show in that series, they know that she comes out, they know the electrical's not right, that's all BS. That truck would be the first best choice. The problem is 67 is quite old. But if you got a 67 original and it's in good condition or mechanically just sound, which is the fleet of Chevy trucks we're talking about right now, wait, when the time came to pick the next five, now we know it as why they already met all of down back in the six, but rolling over into the seventies. We got a color marked. Go ahead. Jump in the color. All right. We got Matt in Texas. Good morning, Matt. You got it. Go ahead. Jump in there. Okay, the reason I called in, Joe, I just tuned in and I heard you talking about the puller you did there. I was going to ask, were you talking about taking an auxiliary transmission and running it backwards, or were you talking about actually pulling the gears off the shaft? Yeah, you take the main shaft out, turn the gear assembly around, and that creates an overdrive, and of course the rear box is another overdrive. So it's an overdrive and an overdrive. When I did that, the reason I did that, I was looking for a way to gain more fuel mileage. And so running down the road at 2200 RPM, trying to do 72 mile an hour, man, it's just, you know, you're running wide open. So when I changed the gears around on the shaft, then I could run at 1600 RPM. and do the same at a better few models. I actually got, now this is back in, you know, let's see, 85, about 87, 88. And back then trucks were known for getting you on like five miles to the gallon. So when I got done, I put a stainless steel turbo wing up on top of the sleeper, turned the transmission around, I had that puppy up to seven miles to the gallon. Okay. I'll tell you what I did, 50 that originally had the 300 straight gears in it. Right. and I put a seat comment that of a... Well that's got about 400 boudreaux crews, it may be 1100 RPM, title is Alproa, I think it's about 26 or 27. Yeah, there you go. The other thing I was going to ask, I was talking about the cut seat part, I'm looking at doing... I don't know the answer to that question. I know they have different models came with different drops, you know, left side, right side, and I suppose you just have to farm through that. Yeah, I was thinking of... any Dodge would love you guys do anything about that. What are you looking to do? Okay, I've got a just one before heavy. Yeah, have you looked in the one tons? Yeah, that would be the one ton one and a half or here's another thing. The very thing we're talking about here with these cuckbeats members that they are and they're pretty much integratable with every part rated suspension wise and they have to also have also modified chicken cross reference that way if vehicles will have a total version or they'll change out because they need a bigger power, they need more electrical. Just because it looks, here's one thing about cuck feet, engine under the hood, 24 volt system, everything to support it under the hood. The same is true with the train and power support. Trip down to Texas, I met you back in 06, I'd like to see you again if you ever come back. As a matter of fact, we're looking at that because I've got to deliver a radio van to one of the militia units down there. So, computers testing out in the shop, going down to Texas, and the radio van, in fact our friend is putting in an antenna mask, a portable, cola-optical one right now. As a matter of fact, we probably will, because they're not too far from often. As a matter of fact, you know, we were there before. You're right. Remember, we were in the underground library there. Yeah, you autographed my... Yeah. Remember, the bank was right over top of us. They wouldn't bomb us, the bank was there. Good. Thank you, sir. Thanks, Mark. And again guys, for everybody out there, you know, Joe, this is a great subject because guys, we got weapons systems, we gotta have a reliable platform underneath, but also just for everyday work and getting stuff done. Guys, we're going to break. Be right back. to stay on top of your finances? Protect your wealth as well as your future. After all, it's your money and your future we're talking about. All right, welcome back, folks. Down here at about the second hour, you're listening to the Morning Intel Report. I'm Joe McNeil here with Mark Kornke. On the morning intel report, yeah that's where we are, we got about 34 degrees here at the studio and supposed to get a little snow today. We got a little yesterday but it all melted off so we're back to the dirt again and see what happens today. We're bringing to the table today reasons for purchasing a somewhere between 73 and 87 Chevrolet. That includes suburban K5s, you know the bigger blazers, etc. All the parts on these vehicles interchange my friends. Now I know today although the price of fuel is going down, whoop-de-doo, when it reaches 36 cents and I'll be happy. But some of the things that I realize not all of you out there are mechanically inclined and I'll try to keep this simple to some degree, but there are things that you can do to help with the fuel mileage. For example, 350 Chevy engines love Edelbrock carburetors. They do. The difference is you go out and turn the key and you go... Okay, that's a quadra-junk. Okay, you put an Edelbrock on that 350 man. You don't even have to get in a truck. Just reach in, turn the key, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom But an aftermarket Edelbrock carburetor loves Chevrolet. That's all I can tell you and You know that that's the way to go. Well, you're describing a Chrysler starter the way it sounded initially you do know that For extra power and few mods. There's tweaks that you can do, you know You can put on a set of how to headers for the for the power You can pull a cam out, change the cam in the engine, get yourself a little RB cam, something a little more powerful. Another thing, the heads on the engines. If you're a mechanic, or you have a mechanic friend or somebody, they made different heads for different applications. They had heads and they had numbers. You can go by the numbers. of what heads to get you know, if you want performance or low end power, you have to understand what it is that you're dealing with valve sizes, they have small valves, big valves, etc. But the reason we're bringing Chevrolet to the table is looking into the future, like I'm saying, from 73 to 87, Those trucks all interchange including the Suburban and the K5 Blazers. Okay, so it doesn't necessarily have to be a pickup per se, but all the parts on those vehicles right there interchange with each other. You can swap motors, transmissions, drive shafts, power steering pumps, garborators, heads, exhaust manifolds, I don't care what it is. It can all be interchanged. And I should go ahead and add the GMC, same thing. GMC is nothing but a Chevrolet built by Canada. Period. That's all it is. The only difference would be the emblems on the outside of the tailgate or, you know, that's about it. All right. Wind shields, you know, everything you do with your door and everything in the interior, everything. And aside of that, there's an entire aftermarket, say LMC for example, write those letters down, LMC. You can go to LMC and they have every piece of that pickup truck for sale, brand new, remanufactured, well not remanufactured, but duplicated for that truck, suburban, or what have you. Okay? The 350 engine of course is the most popular and that's the one I would suggest that you stick with. These things are going to be very important because they have control of the transportation. People out there driving cars now with more electronics on. It's not that they reinvented the wheel or the car. They just started adding garbage to it. and it's all computerized. One computer piece is telling another computer piece. If one fails and everything fails, what you want is a manual operation, the old school 350 Chevy. It doesn't matter really what it looks like. I mean if you want one to look nice and fine, go ahead and sand it down, give it a paint job, whatever, or get some parts that aren't rusted. We have one, two, three, we have four, let's see, we have one, two, three four wheel drives pickup truck sitting out here one four wheel drive suburban a two wheel drive suburban all these all these trucks interchange with each other all of them suspensions drive train you know transmission what have you they are all the same as a matter of fact you can take a suburban completely off the chassis and drop on a pickup with an eight foot bed bolt it right up That's how all that works. All will interchange. And like I'm saying, the significance of all this, of having a Chevrolet in these years, number one, they're not very expensive to buy. They're cheap. Number two, the parts are more than ready available. You can go to any junkyard anywhere on the planet. Now understand that some of the newer motors, like a vortex engine, for example, If you want to put a Vortec engine in a later model Chevy, in order to, you can get that done, they have more power, is just simply pull the intake off and put an aftermarket four barrel intake on, because you'll have a throttle body intake. Just take the intake off, put the aftermarket intake on, throw on your carburetor and you're good to go. But a lot of people don't know these things because they don't work with them all the time. So if I was going to have a piece of equipment, something I could depend on, I would be looking in this area, something like I said in Chevrolet, the reason, like I was explaining, when you move to Ford and Chrysler and all these things, I've done these things. I had a gentleman come in myself one time, he had a 400 in his F250, I think it was a 250. Except 250. And he just wanted to simply put in a 460. Well, 400, 460. Ah, that doesn't seem too far apart. We had to go buy and purchase a Lincoln Continental in order to get all the pieces that we need. We had to have the whole year. We had to have a donor car. And even after that... Because of the way the pickup was made, we had to order special motor mounts from Texas because the ones on the 460 and the Lincoln wouldn't work in the pickup truck. It was a nightmare. It took us about two weeks to build this truck up just to get a motor in it with a whole lot of aftermarket parts that we had to change out. Chevrolet, you don't have to do that. You have everything right there at your fingertips. I don't care which one you're working with all will interchange You can take one motor out and drop in another one. Everything is going to bolt up. I don't care if it's a 283 327 350 454 I don't care what it is. It's going to bolt up and Same with the tranny everything you get is all bolt right up and it'll go the other way So the motor and the trainees all go together in whatever application The other thing you might have to concern yourself with being if it is a four-wheel drive and I'm suggesting and recommending a four-wheel drive because you never know where you're going to have to go. The only thing you would be concerned about in your swaps and you should have it on your donor vehicle is the length of the drive shafts like the one that we just did here recently. It turned out that the original drive shafts with the automatic transmission work perfectly. There was no difference. So I didn't require the drive shafts out of the other vehicles. If you're going to buy a donor truck, a parts truck, try to get as close to what you already have, then you don't have to do any guessing. You know it's all sitting right there. But in the event that you can't, you can't go from three quarter ton to half ton, for example, without some difficulties. Not that it can't be done, just a little more cumbersome, if you will. Tires, for example. You see some of these big monster trucks out there, they're running the bigger tires. Well, if you just have a standard setup, for example, the one that we put together has 33-inch tires. The tires came on the truck. And 33-inch tires, without a lift kit, is about as big as you want to get. You don't want to go to 35s and anything bigger. 33s are about as big as you're going to get. You should be running 31-inch. and that has absolute clearance in the fender wells and what have you. But again, you know, like the ones that we purchased, we had a reason for. One had a three inch lift kit under it and the other one had a five and a half inch lift kit under it. If we wanted to lift any vehicles, we already had lift kits right there, U-bolts and all. If we wanted to lift one up into the air for purposes of ground clearance and what have you. So again, 73 to 87. Chevrolet, Suburbans, Blazers and pickup trucks all interchange. Motors, transmissions, brakes, I don't care what you have, it's going to interchange. And the reason for having that is because of the availability of all those things. And when times of need, you know, if you don't have any money and the economy is collapsing, With a few wrenches, a couple of tools, you can go out and build yourself a vehicle from parts that are just laying all over the place. I can't even begin to tell you how many these Chevy pickup truckers out here in the west. They're all over the place. And with just a little bit of a mechanic background, I got two boys, one's 19, one's 16. They've had no trouble figuring it out. Oh, this one will fit. Put this one, it doesn't take any time at all. But like I said, the most significant part of what we're seeing here is the availability of parts. and the cost of putting one of these together. If it's not, you can go out and buy one that's already assembled. But also, if one day you're traveling down the road and say, oh look man, I wonder if it got to take a couple hundred bucks for that truck, because I can take it home and put it in the backyard and use it for parts. That really is truly the way to go. Have we got Don on the horn? Good morning Don. Good morning. Alright, we're talking about the interchange of similarly trucks, 73 to 87. If you folks out there have any questions, give us a call 208-935-0094, 208-935-0094. Again, you can't do this with other manufactured vehicles. Chevrolet is the only one. And you may like Mopar, you might like Ford, I'm telling you, Chevrolet is the only one that you can do this with. and like Mark and I have explained from 73 to 87. Actually the Suburbans I think went all the way to 89 I think in the same at least the same body style before they changed the body style on the Suburban but the pickup trucks definitely changed. 87 brought about a change in the head from a... Well yeah and I covered that a minute ago you can you can change that out all you have to do is pull the intake put in it while you can reach over here On a well, no it has to be for that era you have to buy an aftermarket intake for the right work. Okay. Oh straight down Yeah, exactly instead of doing a side. Yeah, you can buy an intake for that right? Right. Just throw it Edelbrock right on top Yeah, I think one of the things we need to emphasize here for a lot of guys to think about this little water work guys All of this is easily accessible when you lift the hood I mean, it's really kind of a joke you go to a 19 you will a model T one of our friends He's got to pick up truck that he found up north And when you lift the hood, these seats stay under the hood. We're talking about these particular vehicles. They are fueling maintenance. Pretty much excessive to lift anything, to change things. Here's another thing that we haven't talked about. If you bought a Suburban, or I don't think they can, I think they just came in the Suburbans with the, what was it, 6.2 diesels or whatever diesel engine they have. You can take that diesel engine out. Because they're pretty expensive to replace a lot of people realize that you know they didn't have $5,000 to put in a new long block diesel engine So what we did was we took out the diesel engine and again everything dropped right in Took out the diesel engine cut away all the wiring that applied to the diesel engine That's no of no use anymore Dropped in a 350 put a carburetor on it and set it on down the road You can do that It'll all like I say it'll all bolt right up so you can pull out a diesel and drop in a gas engine Now if you're worried about oh, well, you know, man, I still got to have to take a diesel in in the in the truck What do I do with that? Well, it's real easy get a siphon hose take out as much as you can to just start pouring gas in it You're good to go. Go up rock aim to burn it out the rest way, but that's what somebody will buy your diesel. That's it And Don you're putting out against straight bolt A lot of this is all straight-mole construction guys and all pretty simple work if you just take a look and apply. Go ahead. Another thing you're going to find is a problem. An injected motor because every motor even in a pickup truck is a throttle body at least you'll find a 5 pounds it might be 95 pounds but that's going to over pressure that needle valve in your carburetor to say flooding. You can run that it'll bring that down to like directly replace a regulator to your carburetor to bring it down to about two and a half or three and a half pounds. That way it won't overpower the needle in the... We got a color. Let's take, oh, Bill in Texas. Good morning, Bill. Good morning, guys. I've never been big on remembering all the different model numbers. I just never got into that, but... This is Chevy inline six engine made for many years and that thing can take abuse. 250, really. And what's funny is that TiO copied that engine so closely by the Chevy parts and that they would work. It was probably a contract motor. It's like, you know what? Let me give you a little hint, because we're talking vehicles here. You know, AMC, when it went out of business, you know, Jeep went to E-Ever-Made because the application was like, well, Mark, you mean I can put my eagle on the road? Because those are actually a cool little vehicle. They were pre-getting a lot of the other ideas of four wheel-life sedans and little fish and wagons. Actually, what happens is they'll buy in Asia all of the Hashimoto all of a sudden they invented the engine. Yeah, well that's the 250 I think Bill is talking to. Yeah, the 250 is what he's talking about. We call it the Camel Hump engine because the valve cover rises up in the front and in the back. Well, just to give you an idea of how good those things are, I had a little half ton Chevy pickup with a 600 that I drove out here from Minnesota. But when we first came out, I was towing it when I first came out. And we didn't make it all the way so I dropped it off in Bozeman, Montana because of the weather. The weather was really bad but we had to keep going. So I went back months later to go pick up the pickup. I had somebody drop me off and then I'm driving back and I kept hearing this clicking sound. Well, what the hell is that noise? And I look at my oil pressure, it's 80 pounds. And I drove it all the way to, yup, over the mountains and into Kamiye. And a few months later after I opened up a shop and everything, I thought, yeah, I'm gonna figure out what the hell this clicking is. Well, When I opened up the engine I couldn't really find anything so I took the bottom end off and here one of the rod bearing caps was completely gone. And I mean gone. It's still running like a sewing machine. The only problem it was making this little noise. And it was still holding 80 pounds oil pressure. I thought that was incredible man. So I ended up taking that out and dropping in at 350. Go ahead Bill. Well just to say that the wife drove it with the oil light off. She didn't think it mattered that much. And what happened is one of the valves and the oil pump had given oil pressure and she drove this thing around for half a day with no oil. And so I got it and put a pump for it. Told it for many years later, but the only difference was it had a little bit more tapping noise to it. Yeah, I can imagine. But I mean it just kept running and it got overheated a few times, towing vehicles and didn't even know it. engine was a workhorse. I mean you could beat the living daylights out of it. It's all in what you prefer but I'm just saying that Chevrolet for the sake of part availability, money, you know how much it's going to cost you. These vehicles right here that we're speaking of are definitely a way to go. Not to mention parts inner change. You know how many will be made for their small block for the bell housing? I'm not even going to try to begin to imagine. Yeah, I can get dizzy. I don't know if this still happens, but third party companies used to buy like the presses that made the fenders and bumpers if this continues to ours. And then they would retell them in the aftermarket. Yeah, well that's what I'm saying. LMC, for example, they produce whole magazine full of parts just for these trucks. Everything that you need. Well, thank you guys. Alright, thank you Bill. And folks, we are up here at the top of the hour, so we're going to have to take a little break and then come back on the other side and discuss this more. 208-935-0094, if you have any questions about these vehicles that we're talking about or anything along those lines. Four, if you want to help support the website. Yeah, you can do that too. All right, Don, Mark. We are on the top, God bless the Republic. We got Alpervail, ladies and gentlemen, the Empire's on the run, but we are on the march. We're coming up unless you got to go to work. I understand that.
