You know, they're the aluminum, signal cartridge, caliber 4, 2.25, 26.5. Anyway, they're slowin' and will not go into the pistol. That's slowin'. And I've actually had one that actually illo- Okay, now, it feels like it's expanded? Yes, it has. It's a .26-5? .26-5. Yeah, .26-5. Polish check. The gun is not important. The gun should not be a problem. But it appears that the shells themselves are the East German star shells or are these the... One of the other Euro loads. There's no parking actually on the show about indication. Hold 5, 7.85. That's the date. But there's no... Here's a question. Were these still in the wrapper or were these out and exposed in any way? Were they just out in the air? Okay, the only thing that doesn't mean that they couldn't be doing this to the others. Remember I've talked about this before with the illumination and with smoke is that those, that green crystal can still be curing or still developing. So, is it difficult to get in or just not able to load it at all? Unable to load it. Now, here's the other thing. Is there a patima or a finish like a dustiness on the outside? There's a lot. Inside, it's all internal. Ten doors and in a 5-6-0 block bag. Firing about 1985 production military, right? Police, stop. Okay, well, there's a... There's no head. I believe all. Now I've got some that will. I have in my hand here the red, the white and the green that will still fit and then it's like about a 6 inch one that will be green and a couple of red that will not fit. Obviously that's internal expansion with the chemical compound that makes up either the booster projection or it's the filament, the actual material that burns. Likely, is there a bulb? Can you see a discerning bulb or Oh yes, you can see it, it's very prominent. I'm thinking the, uh, two-car, from itself. One of the things you can do is the surgery, obviously you can open up the front of the case, because remember it had to be loaded, and that's how it, that's how everything went in. Yeah. Uh, take one and do a, I mean if you're, cause you're really not confident of the idea, with the idea of loading it up and pulling the trigger, certainly if there's already a distortion, something going on. It will not, it will not load. It will not load, yes, yes, my whole point. So if you're, you're not out anything to, uh, Okay. I just do a surgery from the front end, take an exacto knife. Typically that's got the lacquered, you know, either cardboard, plastic, or even if someone had a little copper that covers the front, it's very thin. It's like copper, a little heavy. I've already done that. I've already done that. I've not taken up a two-card board, uh, two, uh, cloth. Okay, very good. And the cardboard below that. But I'm down now to the actual capsule that launches. And, uh, I haven't got that up yet. but that won't come out on itself. Does it move at all inside the case? No. It is what's slowly. Okay, that means it's the burn filament. That means it's the stuff that makes the material work. Now there's a couple different ways you can extract that safely. One, well it's safe, but you want to be cautious. One of the tricks is if you want to take the filament out of the projector, out of the capsule, put it on the material. What you can do is actually work that out. It'll make it arrest or create any surprises for you. But now you've got to be careful even with that. Even as I say that, you've got to remember to take a... do a little bit of material you've scraped away from the top of the... if the element is exposed. If the element is not the case... the case oxidizing, quickly do that without being very obvious. Internally or externally. You know what it is, you get the white crust. Everybody's seen that with aluminum. You get a powdering or a taking or a flaking depending upon what step it's at and what kind of aluminum it is because there are many hundreds of different grades of aluminum. Depending on how it's cast, you'll get a chipper flaking type with heavier castings. In this case, it's basically a sheet metal aluminum body. Please start to just oxidize out. It's like aliens, acids or blood. or at least an area that would start to look dusty and then it literally would turn to dust. Yeah, it's clean. So what it is, is like I said before, the crystal structure, this is something I've discussed many times on the air. When they're doing these different munitions and they're doing volume, it's true of everything, right up to tank rounds. This is why I told everybody to watch these videos on YouTube from the Ukraine conflict slash the, you know, the, you know, what's going on there. You get to see a lot of old and if you pay attention you'll notice the crew and weapons are actually cleaning down and scrubbing. The reason is just like what you have going on here with this, different chemical reactions because of the materials are used for finish. What the stuff was made out of, you know, in general. In this case it's the filament, the burning element that is obviously expanded. The shells are not reacting to anything. So it's the material compound, crystal structure continued to expand in volume. I doubt this moisture compromised. So what it is, it's from the factory that way and it's a long-term issue. It's something that for the short term, the application would be 6, 8, 10 years. But on occasion, this happens. You have different batches or different levels of performance in the batch when it's loaded into the shell. So again, good point. The only thing is, When you bought them, were they in wrappers or were they in one of those cardboard boxes with the wax? Or were these shelves loose and laying around when you bought them? These were loose. From a vendor or something where you had them available? Yeah, I buy one or two every couple of years or occasionally. Well, the thing is that most of them, remember, we've talked about this too, time storage. For whatever reason, there could have been, you didn't see it, I couldn't see it, it's micro fine. There could have been a compromise in the seal. It's something about the design. They know about it, they do about it when they built it. But they didn't know again, it's a catch-as-catch-can thing. During the Cold War, you've got to remember they were doing Cold War still military standard production. They've got a line. They do things a certain way, applying adhesives, applying and you were using materials. It was up and down. It was pretty decent, although crude and rude for the Eastern block. But if they did have a problem, the idea is that it was random and it's acceptable within military applications, you have a military application scheme depending on the country. And remember most of these were Czech. Well the first batch that came in were East German. Then the Czech came in, then the Polish came in. And in the meantime there have been German 26.5, pretty much every player you can imagine has come in from Germany, both from East Germany and then from Germany now that they're joined. And most of what they're selling in surplus though is still from the cold. You know, they're not getting rid of their newest. They're selling the stuff and the finish comes out. So, go ahead. All right, you simple symbols extract the crystallism and then I'll reload it into something else. Maybe a 12 gauge flare. It's not gonna be wasted. Right, well even the filament, the powder for burn, That can be used in a number of different alternate projects. What I do is take a small scraping, take it outside, put it on something that you don't feel comfortable with, and do a match test to see how it lights and burns. Just take a scraping of it, pop the size of two or three match heads, light it, and see what it does. Be careful, take a little wooden match, and it's not going to explode, but it is going to burn. But the idea is if it burns properly or activates without any hesitation, then you know that even though it might have expanded the crystal, the structure has continued to grow, you still have a good strong burn. Now one thing that it was something I've had with smoke grenades, activates at a very high rate to the point where it almost detonates. I'm not worried about you going boom with a little scraping that you're going to test. You're going to be able to tell very quickly if it's a hot powder, a bead burn. or if it embers, you know what I mean? You try to get it started in a kind of, you know, for just a moment or two, and you see kind of a spring or a thermal, and finally there's a proper transfer of calories and boop, that's the house flow, how quickly or slowly it takes for it to activate. It was between 4F and cannon powder. The big thing with the flare power, the flare material is you can still use it for what it was intended, but for instance, you can load it up into an anti-personnel, device. Something where you're going to go pull the trigger or you know like not pull the trigger but yeah it goes off and it's pointed towards somebody. Big long water pipe with another piece of pipe and a you know cap and maybe a shotgun shell with a and then the powder right in front of it along with a bunch of you know nails or whatever. Basically a pipe or steel pipe shotgun but the shell could be you know again longest biggest shell you can get and the load can be a combination of that that filament. like Dragon's Breath. The moment you pull the trigger coming out of the end of that muzzle or whatever it is, you know, you make up a 36 inch, you know, see the cool thing is you can make these things up and all it is is a homemade shotgun. And notice I didn't say make it a short, short thing. Make it a long 36, 40 inch piece of pipe. It'll work just fine. But when it goes off, just like you've seen Dragon's Breath and it already is built the same way. The material is designed obviously to burn high intensity and create so many millions of power. So one of the focus stat is One of the other things to remember, yeah, like you said with the powder now remember that's a slow burn Well, it's actually low low pressure high velocity powder Same thing you see with the 40 millimeter grenade launcher at 37 The flares are designed the player launching powder designed to just you know, slap it to get it downrange It's not a real super high velocity. So it's a it's an upper upper upper upper bore or anything you're going to do with it. And you're looking more towards something like shotgun or for big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big the front of the case. The cantaloure paint, because remember in a lot of the countries as I said, is the cantaloure paint for the part 2ID, what it is also. And whatever numbers around it, even if they're painted on, they might flake. The paint was in many cases also lacquered. And on the aluminum, the lacquer doesn't hold, you know, on the aluminum surface of like a tube. The aluminum will hold, but you know, it'll hold the paint for a while, but because of the very nature of aluminum, the paint typically kind of lightly flakes off. and if it's a real real high lacquer like you see almost like a watery fingernail polish the whole paint will flake off I mean I've seen that many types of different cartridges and different heavy shells 40 millimeter stuff that's done overseas heavy artillery shells done in you know aluminum are one of the the synthetic metal oddball metal outs a lot of different countries have used different materials and the lacquer paint was a cheap quick solution as industry standard but long run it can completely be decanted from the material the metal is laying on. Smaller cases like flare shells. Any numbers or any markers or even any weird markings that look like they're not quite complete they could be a stamp of some kind and you just have to figure out what it is. Okay. Yeah, but if you do a follow up on that let us know because I'd be curious. Again, this is where it comes down to is the occasional inspection. Governments do the same thing. They grab a box, open it up, They'll do a random snag and they'll pull a box out of a case, assemble everything. They'll pull everything apart and see how does it look. They disassemble it, they've inspected it, they will probably take it to the range and fire it. Every government that has a real typically has a schedule for that. How religious they are, how reliable they are, well usually the bureaucracy fails everybody. As long as somebody's got the hot snow fort trying to do the right thing, it's not going to last very long. Again, they're doing these sampler tests and serve the first reason we're seeing here just in case you want to find out if there's something you didn't know about or even after all you're planning you know you messed up on. Another thing, caller, this is one of the things I would point out. This is why, like I've said guys, with quality control of your munitions if you're making anything yourself, why you also have to be religious about feeling things and understanding how to make them work right. A little warning, if you're gonna make anything, hot glue guns. A lot of guys push using hot glue guns. That is a quick solution if it was a very short idea used right away. But even there, the problem with hot glue guns is adhesion is not guaranteed. You're better off with other materials even though it takes more time, you have to be much more careful with them to get uniform seals so that you don't have any powder backburn from one area to another or again powder loss or separation around something where you might have something nested like a flare Or if you have a grenade launcher or something like that or if you're making shells. That's the most common mistake made in manufacturing things. And by the way, many of the manuals intentionally misdirect you towards that. Not moved and can be used for a few things, but for any critical seal or any seating, no. Always remember that. Because that's a good thing. And I just assemble this record of what I do because I want to for something else. Yep. And we do need to find out where it came from so if we can get all the markers or anything. Also the type of casing even tells us a great deal. Remember that. So if you can, take some pictures. Okay. I shall. You know, do a little lab, you know, grab the scale, you know, pull a little, you know, one foot, you know, school stick out, lay it next to it so everybody gets scale and size and you can, you know, help people to understand what's going on.
