The British actually employed chemical weapons at the tactical level, but not on a broader, wider tactical level that eventually was brought forward by both sides. At the end of World War I, we call it World War I, the Great War, troops are all in place. They're an international lot from South America, Africa, the United States. First line is done. Now you need to start picking a second line. What river network has whiter the river and deeper the river, the more easily we'll be able to control what's behind us.
