Summary
Mark Koernke discussed emergency preparedness equipment and communications technology on April 1, 2014. The episode focused heavily on micro FM radio transmitters available from online retailers like DealExtreme, including models ranging from $58 to $211 with varying wattage outputs (1-15 watts). Koernke reviewed specific equipment specifications, antenna configurations, and plug-and-play kits, then took a caller from southeast Ohio who shared experiences using micro FM stations for community broadcasting and emergency communication. The show emphasized the importance of decentralized communication networks, battery backup systems for handheld radios, and frequency coordination for militia-style organizational structures.

The people who played that stuff are within the Institute of We Remember a lot of other peoples. Anyway, it is the first week of 8GOR effect.com effect. The number of communications Tuesday we have going for our friends and allies that have been testing our friends from China. Rather than buying a big lump of hundreds at a time, which he is the inspector, plant number 53, communist military ordinance and signal did, solid communist operation. uh... you know communist corporate really how does com issue communist first place but especially the people who are the party-winders will tell you all about how communist so independent anyway well from the communist using damage the communist and again on the cheap if you go to the u.s. stream in fact we're going to bring again one of the many solution punch the button there it will take you to all wait a minute it'll take you to deal with stream.com stream they get a No lady, don't, it's a plug-in toaster, don't hit it with a- into the electrical components, that's not good. Well anyway, LED light motorcycle turn signals, ooh, and P38 can openers. EDGEEAR, ED-TC-GEER, stainless steel bottle opener, peeler combo tool in silver. Now wait a minute, this looks like a P38 can opener to me. Peel bottle opener. Peeler combo tool, 47 cents. I got distracted here by something. EGC gear. Anything about size. It's a P-38 can opener. Maybe it's a really big one. $2.47 a piece. But it is in stainless steel. Our US government ones weren't made in stainless, but that doesn't mean that. Oh, wait a minute. Mine might have been. The ones I had, at least the older ones. Convenient portable outdoor stainless steel waste clip. Okay, let's see. Wow, they've got some interesting stuff that's showing up out of the blue. Well, anyway, that's something interesting. It's best travel, cycling, family car camping, or army, Chinese army, invading the United States and punting your food. That's what it's doing. Anyway, they do offer a P-38 can opener, calling it an EDC Gear Stainless Steel Bottle Opener Peeler Combo Tool. Peeler Combo Tool? I don't know where to get the peeler part. Well, maybe that little edgy thing there that they've got down below might be a peeler. Okay, I'm going to have to investigate some of those. Also, see how big it is. Now, that would be kind of cool. The little P-38s are handy and small for some people to, you know, think about. Anyway, eelextreme.com, eex.com, eex.com, eex.com, or eelextreme.com, eelextreme.com. When you get there, a whole bunch of stuff that is list consumer, elect, and when you get to consumers and you touch it, now go over to the main, two primary columns, the one column in the middle column, down to the very bottom that says other, now when you get there, they have all kinds of other really neat stuff. They've got a USB-RID message and advertising. Hey, I might want one of those. It'd be kind of fun to have plugged in right at the end of the driveway, you know, oncoming traffic and, you know, screws. Anyway, the CZE number of models available in terms. Now, example is they've got the right on the front page there. It shows up first. $85.59 is the CZE-7. As a matter of fact, whatever, they're testing this whole out. voltage DC 1210 to 14 volts recommended yeah typically concurrent 2.0 amps transmitting frequencies 76 to 108 megahertz transmitting power 7 watts out of the box modulation system FM frequency offset blah blah blah blah we're going blah blah blah blah see find anything else out here for you yeah it's kind of a fun screen shows on of course LCD is played strange here 12 volt system basically dies everything pretty understandable the only thing that one of The program is the power supply wasn't there, they're sending him one, but he also gave him a $22.00 because they screwed up, which is a supply anyway, which is kind of neat. They do have up to 15 watts. We've got a CZE-15A, which is $211.51. So 15 watts in the box. Since you buy more, they're cheaper. You buy typically with these, yep, you save a few dollars if you buy three. Nah, you don't save, you only save pennies if you buy five. And you only save a few more pennies, you can buy ten. So, buying two or three at a time, you need this to come for a few dollars, and after that you're pretty well at $209 range. Plug and play, easy to understand, comes with a quite an extensive end kit. This is, oh no, it's got the, oh this, yeah. Now this one, for a little more money, this one includes the antenna array, guys. This is really a plug and play package, right here. Definitely worth looking at. something to take into consideration. It's the CZE-15A. Comes with the dipole's base rod. Looks like it even has the unit, which we really need. This is a package to attach the mast package. It is the CZE-15A. So Mark, this is the swim down, because I always have a tip. We find cool things, and we find cool things. We don't want to lose the cool things. We want to make sure we can find them later. But this is a complete package to include the antenna. So for everybody out there, this would definitely be worth a look out of the box. 51 cents, DC, 16 alpha, or 15 watts. This thing is set up to be mobile, or something that can be used easily in a vehicle as a transmitter. Antenna for car. But the antenna will work up to be mobile. So for you guys who are looking for something for that rig, and you wanted to put a quick FM system on board, fast way to put an FM micro station in a mobile unit right and with the antenna fixture, the coax, everything that you need kids to need. I'm noticing something about the connector system that I kind of like is I've got a lot of the cabling for this. So anyway the item number, the SKU number is 798. Now this one was not, I did not see this one available the last several times that I've looked guys. So this is something that is recently come out for you might be building about a micro FM or maybe putting something with that you know you could drive down the road or you know partner an intersection put a sign up and now this would be a strong this would be a beast actually though 15 watt out of the box don't do anything else don't have to have the amplifier issue where it is already been taken care of the box itself is already boosted to 15 watts it's built as a 15 watt kit I don't know what to be putting out of the off the antenna for 15 watts out of the box. It could put a full 15 out there, but probably it's going to be more like 11. We're from 9 to 11. The antenna looks to be fairly efficient. Full dipole processor, whole nine yards. So it's a very, very, in fact, it's a pretty decent antenna array by all indications. Looking at the number of six. Yeah, this is actually a pretty decent little fixture. So anyway. Everything appears to be there, of course who knows, with a Chinese packet, unfortunately, chao chu bing, you might get an extra. Some days you might get all the antenna masks, other days you might get five antenna components and three fingers. The box may smell a little bit, I would peek before I would open briskly just to go, okay kids, now let's step back, I gotta take care of something in the box. And then you dispose of chao chu bing's fingers or part of somebody here, whatever got caught in the machine and put a process through everything else. okay it happens just so don't be surprised just be prepared okay or anyway mark find that new that showing up these other stuff is the now two hundred eleven dollars as soon as I said that some people go mark I can't afford that okay now I'm gonna remind you again guys there is a wide range of these micro FM's on the shelf ready to roll much you want to spend and what you have available seventy six dollars apiece fifty eight dollars apiece Respectably again remember it'll be output if you just want to do a neighborhood micro FM Remember that most of the Ramsey kits that we built are only one watt out of the box Expand the you know the range by increasing your output These came in other words out of the brand lot of the wrapper I know in five watt six watt seven watt and 15 watt now 15 watt Considering that that means the amplifier circuit everything is there your prep. It has an onboard synthesizer by what I can see from the specs. The board synthesizer kit was a major step up years ago in the micro FM. In fact, it's a separate. That's what cleans up and gives you that beautiful FM sound that you love so much when you're listening to big time radio. Here's why. The reason that they're so easy, these are, Davis, remember this, the big thing right now is wireless and they're doing it in the FM range. But the FM rebroadcast vision audio video air enforce you easily you can find a lot of different equipment out there that is worthwhile so you might want to again take the time check out see what they got here go to deal extreme dot thread the top of the list on the left the next section you want to go to is bottom of the pop up the big bubble that shows up with the list you know to go to and at the very bottom in the middle it says other consumer electronics now there are other micro FM and in this particular category there's a couple of things that definitely want to look at there are crank up solar and technology in terms of safety items. It's all one combination. Everything does everything. Only does one thing or one thing does everything. I wouldn't be constantly using them until I need them because wear and tear a lot of those are going to take. But they do have, for instance, hand crank AM FM radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio, radio microphones are in there too and for you people that are looking microphones to get the job done to set up a little station there's not that much of a selection at Radio Shack anymore it's very very narrow quality is pretty much the same as what you're dealing with here be quite honest okay for everybody out there again check out gilx.com they have a bunch of other junk I mean a of other junk that's really cool it's all China support don't make a mistake about that we're not ignorant of that one A couple of things they do which are really cool. Screen, anti-spy, laser, wireless signal detector. This is for monitoring for and for surveying for the bounce off glass off of the material slash frequency monitors. Do numerous dimension guys. Handheld walkie talkies, not in this particular section, but also gave radios. Any price, again, you want to pay. So if you're looking for a solution to have a shortwave radio on hand, they have opened up. In fact, well, you know what? Another thing that they just expanded on here. A whole bunch of radios to the inventory or put back in stock. Typically, with deal extreme, there's pages and pages of out of stock items right now. A bunch of stuff that's back in business. You might want to check this out. There are some interesting fixtures and assemblies that were out the last time I checked. Now they're back. in the stock or at least they're saying they're back in stock. Typically when they do, they're pretty straightforward and honest about this. If it's out of stock, it's probably gone. Okay, believe them. Don't try and, you know, don't even just go on to something else. But they also listed with the auto stock items are later in the inventory. Check out what's available. See what it is that might be used for you. And we're at Penn Station are definitely a priority. Remember that is your emergency service out there, guys. We're at the bottom of the hour. Speaking of break here in a minute, because we sponsors who have stepped forward. I would remind you again please if we can take the time grab an envelope, G-5 and Kamiye Idaho 83536. We're going to keep the station and network up on the air at the beginning of the month. We need you people to pitch in and make it happen. Good morning to Scotland by the way and yes we got your letter Scotland Scotland the three blood. We'll be back in just a little bit here. In this present crisis, government is not the solution to our problem, is the problem. I believe it is clear our federal government is overgrown and overlooked. Indeed it is time our government should go on a diet. There's millions of people in this country. I don't think they're really grasp what really could happen. We're both measures for their generation. That never would be in any doubt. The tools of the game are changing. Micro effect radio network. The gem of the mountains. Learn more about the micro effect at themicroeffect.com. The era of big government is over. But don't worry, there's healing stuff too. Now, these the Israelis are going to get the lion's share of what they're stealing from Ukraine. In fact, the pigs have already grabbed a bunch of stuff. So the Israelis get first feed at the trough of the disposal of the Ukraine. Now, pigs are in motion, but don't worry, the lesser pigs, you know, the other international Shastre bankers will be in there any time. Now, in fact, they're already there. They're on the ground. They're in motion. And they're going to help to screw the Ukraine, Syria, and Libya. They just seem to do that to everybody. Anyway, we gotta call our gym in there. Who do we have? Morning, uh, pioneer of southeast Ohio. Good, sir. Jim, what do you got for us? I just like to... I love the... We talk about the time... the power supply. The neat thing about that is it's an automatic emergency management system, isn't it? Yes, sir. That's one of the things I can't stress enough. Somebody does anything now, there's no reason for us not to get the message out, and the micro FM, I noticed they haven't offered yet that I've seen are the micro AM stations, but I'll guarantee they've already come out with the FM. able to see for a come so the cool thing is we're looking at some really did you get yours with the antenna and everything as part of the system or like a radio I got a tape on both of them happy I mean 40 bucks for a bad perfect oh you only get out one fat you know okay see that's like right now we have a couple of stations in some of our mid Michigan cities listenership they only go three or four blocks actually only have like a one watt or a half watt station up is the moment anything happens to it the neighbors are asking why the station program's off. Which is good because you know what that does, that shows you there's two things, number one. A lot of times, like when we were up visiting, we were up in, went to speak up there, and what was funny is the guy was, not only was he running his micro FM, but he was running the, I was speaking there that night, right? And he was running the entire program that we were doing the event through his micro FM, which we also did with Liberty Tree Radio at the time, okay? We actually co-broadcast. What was funny is there were so many people at the event they couldn't put any more people in the building because of fire, you know, the fire laws, right? Well, across the street the neighbors had collected on the front porch and were listening on an FM radio to what was going on. And down the street about five or six houses halfway down the block there was another house that was doing the same thing. They couldn't get into the event, but they could all stand there and listen to everything that was going on. This is all done with the micro FM in the neighborhood right there. So you see it does affect a lot of people. And once people find out there's something other than the plastic, they'll turn to it. It's why years ago, we've brought this up, oh, I don't want to say that. Lionsgate, British company, came through the United States, two or three of them. You see Lionsgate listed when you go to PBS, which of course isn't as strange as supposed to be American public broadcasting, but all we see is British broadcasting. You know, isn't that strange? What's interesting is they went through and they bought out all these little micro, these little small FM stations and shut them down all over the country because back in the 90s, talk radio was just booming. Everybody liked the idea that you could collect. You're doing right now, you're affecting a lot of other people from where you are in Ohio. You're talking to other people, you can say what you want. We don't really, you know, we don't do too many strange things here. Well, we do all kinds of strange things here. That's why I think hopefully everybody likes what we do. but uh... you can interact anywhere after we get back to the people you hear you know i like this or it doesn't work in other words you can tell me the same thing well i tried one of these and i've got this problem with the uh... with the the talk radio they did like that because people start realize they are not alone there's a bunch of other people don't like what the shakers are doing with this global scam so what they did is they came over and spent a whole lot of money not uh... buying up mom and pop radio networks and then they shut them off and that's what happened to all of these little networks that were all over the place where, you know, some company had a thick cup in the radio station. Michigan, they shut something like 70 to 80 stations right off the bat. They're off and down like the 94 core, 31 is what it did. So every- Oh, no you're not. In fact, this river is, I think most of this country is so pissed that they don't know what to do right now. They're trying to get us into a war, they're trying to get us killed, they're trying to do whatever. The problem is they start it, we'll finish it. And I think they realize it's too far now. There's no mending the fence or fixing anything. They can't fix it, they don't know how to. They broke it under the intentions of breaking it the rest of the way. You know what, trying to back off a little bit, they just can't afford to lose. They can't go one step forward, two step back, anymore they can. So we have to be pressed and ready to deal with it. Micro FM stations are one, rather than one big, how about 50,000 small radio stations in truck because we can make them mobile when the time comes. You can also warn everybody in advance, hey, beep, beep, beep, beep, attention, attention, attention. And then you have an automated message with location of attack or incident or activity, keep sending it out. Or you can give updates, which is another thing that brings people to listen is that when you give constant updates, when you actually have real-time information as it's happening, and that makes a big difference too. If you can get happens in your area, you can actually get up on the horn and talk to people and give them a who, what, where, when. I'm sorry. So anyway, the equipment's working very well for you. Yes, sir. Yes, sir. Very one station. You just proved listening. You know, as far as that... Well, you know, when my son built his first one, actually, we've talked about Ramsey Kits, and I'm not putting down Ramsey Kits now because the Chinese stuff is here, but the Chinese stuff is plug and play. In other words, if you get it out of the box, it's going to work. It's got everything there. And sometimes, well, like one person here that called in and said, I didn't publicly have a $22 credit, and I guess they're sending the power supply anyway. We're happy. That's kind of cool. Ramsey, the first one that my oldest son built, we cost us about $26 when they first came out. It's basically a one-watt little cheapy transmitter out of the box. It's very small, about the size of half a cigar box. But it only has one flat circuit board. It doesn't have multi-dimensional circuit boards. It's very simple. It has what we call POTS. You actually take a screwdriver, a plastic screwdriver, and adjust the individual so that you can get a good... You gotta open up the box. Anyway, When he put that up, he was using the internet when most people didn't know what the internet was and didn't know anything about emails. Well, most people didn't. But he started broadcasting. He had to build his own antenna. So we had this antenna array that you just would have to laugh at because it was wired. It was a wired antenna. It sprung all over the yard here. Well, he started broadcasting. And what he did is he took my combination of what he was collecting and what I was collecting, which I'd done for years, his old radio program. And he was playing one of the Superman series. and he was playing in the ordinary had a regular step into the new mail and you could have a little you can do a song request annual no exactly what's going to be played in the old so we actually have a schedule lineup and everything you go the internet and if you had a request to be played in a certain time and he did all of that and he did all your home episode i think it's episode six of that series is gone nobody has a copy of it nobody's able to find a copy and so it's just missing you know from the very record you know the archives the copies they made are of course built off of the archives so what's missing is missing. Well, he played episode five and then he went to episode seven. All of a sudden out of the blue he's got this flurry of emails, hey, hey, what happened to the episode six? Where is it? Did I miss something? When did you play that? Is there something wrong with the station? Hey, so what's funny is he got an I mean not one or two. He had emails coming in from as far away as Chelsea, Michigan, which is, you know, about, what, six miles, seven miles to our west. He had emails coming in from the north. He had emails coming in from the south, you know, so many miles away. So, oh yeah, the post office and the fire department sent emails. They were listening to the station, okay? That's what I was going to, I said about earlier, and I said, someone is here, and is definitely listening. I'd like to sign off here. Okay, yes, I'm sorry. Thank you, sir. Keep up the good work. Do what you can. So, Joe needs to instead of using the state hundred number. That's what I'm... Actually, I need to reinforce that and forget. I don't want to give out the wrong one because I have all the numbers here and you know, I want to confirm. Maybe I'll even have our board operator give out our music because I have unlimited calling and that's what we do. You know, we don't use the hundred number. Southeast Ohio. Thank you, sir. If you can, take the time, plug in, and go to consumer electronics. Then go to the very bottom middle column that says consumer electronics. That's where you're going to go to find out more about what they have available. One of the things that they have added is a unit about $211, a unit with antenna masks, coax, everything, plug and play, guys. You want to plug into the face to make it work. If you're willing to, again, put the system online. You got yourself a pretty decent mechanism. For everybody out there listening, it is, by the way, Communications Tuesday. Now, remember there's other layers to communication we've talked about before. Any of the personal handheld radios that are direct contact are fine. In other words, where you don't have to have a repeater for personal contact, the little handheld radios, if you have to have another repeater, somebody else's assistant to run through, remember that while you can use those now, What happens when the general power goes off? Will your radio serve you properly if you need to, you know, again, work per a middleman? Now, it doesn't mean that we abandon, for instance, our two-meter radios, because our two-meter radios do require repeaters, but you've got to remember, most of the repeaters for two-meter are run by private individuals or even by private companies. And they typically put their own emergency power supply on board, they put their own generators in place, they maintain so many hundred gallons of fuel with a generator, not like it's just a few gallons. And the equipment is designed to be an industrial system, an emergency system. Two meter is still a very viable. Your personal handheld radios, there's two things you have to be careful of when you're buying them out of those little blister packs when you go to like say the truck stop or you go to the store. In many cases, the radios have different frequency bandwidth that they operate on. So if you get like, say, oh, I'm going to get four of those purple Todu Bongbai radios, okay? Read the labeling to make sure that you're picking up radios that all work in the same bandwidth. They slide up and down. Some have our frequency-specific. Some of the radios, like remember the old micro FM, the little FM headset radios and handheld radios, They're FM, very clean, very crisp. They're actually based on a little military package. Radio Shack has had them for years. You have the headset type. I've got four of them sitting here behind me that are on the rack right now. They're good little tactical combat radios. But again, remember, they're not that heavily built. So just understand, beating through the woods with them. I've done this. I've got hundreds of them. I mean, I do. I've collected them where people have bought them. They've messed them up. I buy them from the yard sales. or they have one that's messed up and they have two that are still in the box because they didn't like the one that was messed up. Well, the thing is these little micro FM transmitters, transceivers, work off five frequencies, A, B, C, D and E. They're already preset. Now remember, some of them only have one frequency. Well, some are on A frequency, some are on B, some are on C, some are on D, some are on E. Well, if you have one radio that's on A and you have the other on C, they're not going to talk to each other. So read the package. Pay attention to detail. Doesn't mean you can't use them. Well, what we do in our militia formations is, you know, first squad is given personal radios that work in the A frequency. Second squad gets them in the B frequency. Third squad gets them in the C frequency. D frequency for fourth squad and, you know, the final frequency for fire control. Command management. The difference is that for the weapons section, which is the command uh... weapons section uh... all of these can be talked to by the command set which has all five channels old radios cost of few dollars more they look just like the other radios but they are not frequencies specific this way everybody needs to talk to everybody is talking everybody but not talking over each other in other words the the squad radio frequencies work within that area with the each lot here team leader uh... and talk each of the individual squads or to the weapons section slash the commander fire controls. Okay. With the handhelds, the other thing is, as we've talked about before, go to the dollar store. They got all kinds of gimmicky little packages, soap dishes, and cigarette holders, you know, cigarette pack holders. But make up a packet with spares if you're going to carry those little handheld radios. For batteries, if nothing else, here's the thing. Most of your radios, not every one, but a lot of them, especially ones sold like in the truck shop, use either AAA or AA batteries. Well, make up a little pack. Go to the dollar store and buy a dollar's worth of those eight batteries for a dollar for the Sylvania China Sport throwaway batteries. put those inside the little container, put that in your pocket any time you carry that radio. Now the radio batteries you got inside the radio can be rechargeables, but remember you may need other batteries in the field. Hey, any battery in a storm as long as it's got fresh power, guys. So the little battery pack thing you bring along so you got spares to quick change out. Something happens, you're not going to be isolated. You're not going to have to shout real loud because I don't have batteries. This little tricks of the trade we do all the time Anyway, we are at the top of the hour talking about tricks. We've got to leave we're gonna we're gonna fool you and go to another hour. How's that sound? No April fool anyway Joe McNeil PO Box 164, Kami I, Idaho 83536, please seat in your heart and donate. We've got to do it this way by snail mail. This is the way we've always done it in the past. God bless the Republic. Death of the New World Order. We shall prevail, ladies and gentlemen. The Empire's on the run. We're on a march. We got the thinkers. They got the stinkers. We're going to make sure the stinkers stay over there on the other side where they belong. We're going to get the job done. Win, kick, buck, get on with our liberty. Right here on the rock. It's Tuesday. We'll be back. His clothes were torn and dirty as he stood there by my bed. He took off his three-cornered hat and speaking low to me and fought a revolution to cure our liberty. We rose the Constitution as a shield from tyranny. For future generations, this likely we endist the land we secured for you. We hoped you'd always keep. Tyrants labored endlessly while your parents were asleep. Your freedom's gone, your courage lost. You're no more than a slave. Endist the land of the free. You buy permits to travel and permits to own a gun. Permits to start a business or to build a place for one. On land that you believe you own, you pay a yearly rent. Although you have no voice in saying how the money's spent. Your children must attend a school that doesn't educate. And your Christian values can't be taught.
