I had a dream the other night that, well, I didn't understand. A figure walked in through the mist with a flintlock in his hand. His clothes were torn and dirty as he stood there by my bed. He took off his three cornered hat and speaking low to me he said, we've fought a revolution to secure our liberty. We wrote the Constitution as a shield from tyranny. For future generations this legacy we gave. In this the land of the free and home of the brave. The freedoms we secured for you we hoped you'd always keep. The tyrants labored endlessly while your parents were asleep. Your freedom's gone, your courage lost, you're no more than a slave. In this, the land of the free and home of the brave. You buy permits to travel and permits to own a gun. Permits to start a business or to build a place for one. On land that you believe you own, you pay a yearly rent. Although you have no voice in saying how the money's spent. Your children must attend a school that doesn't educate and your Christian values can't be taught according to the state. You read about the current news in a regulated press and you pay a tax you do not owe to please the IRS. Your money is no longer made of silver nor of gold. You trade your wealth for paper so your life can be controlled. You pay for crimes that make our nation turn from God and shame. You've taken Satan's number. You've traded in your name. You've given government control to those who do you harm so they could burn down churches and seize the family farm and keep our country deep in debt. Put men of God in jail. Harash your fellow countrymen while corrupted courts prevail. Your public servants don't uphold the solemn oaths they've sworn. And your daughters visit doctors so their children won't be born. Your leaders send artillery and guns to foreign shores and send your sons to slaughter fighting other people's wars. Can you regain the freedoms for which we fought and died? Or don't you have the courage or the faith to stand with pride? And are there no more values for which you'll fight to save? Or do you wish your children to live in fear and be a slave? Oh, sons of the Republic, arise, take a stand, defend the Constitution, the Supreme Law of the land, preserve our great Republic and each God given right, and pray to God to keep the torch of freedom burning bright. As I awoke, he'd vanished in the mist for whence he came. His words were true, we are not free, but we have ourselves to blame. For even now as tyrants trample each God given right we only watch and tremble too afraid to stand and fight If he stood by your bedside to dream while you were asleep and wondered what remains of the freedoms he fought to keep What would be your answer if he called out from the grave is this still the land of the good? afternoon ladies and gentlemen, this is the second hour of the afternoon intelligence report. Then it'll all be global warming again, then we're all gonna die. Then we will die because we'll have fall, or death will set in, because we'll have brownness everywhere, and then we'll have the deep darkness of winter. but we're leaving that for the moment so you should be able to smile a little bit before that happens thirty first of march sixth year of open Fabian socialist and soviet socialist occupation of america with a cake two thousand and fourteen older calendar or mine crazy town crazy town calendar beautiful there we may have callers do we have anybody jump in their caller just to be safe one leave anybody out because i heard a few things just before we went to the top of the hour to Oh wait, and a one and a two. Real quick, I have a change direction just for a minute. Okay, how many of you people remember the Virginian Dragoon pistols? Anybody? All of a big muck revolver, you could beat somebody with actually your Dragoon pistols, or typically again, mounted infantry pistols back in the day they used to be single shot. Then they went to, you know, revolver and eventually, you know, bigger heavier hog legs. The carbine of course overlapped with the weapons. But right now, and again, this is not a new product, but there isn't a whole lot out there in the way of guns. that stick around and some are big but again they are cool in different ways every weapon is neat but refurbished Taurus Judge Revolvers. Now I'm going to tell you two of those on a horse That's Josie Wales kids actually that Josie Wales would have carried a judge know what I mean just cuz man That's got some firepower in terms of the big border cylinder 45 ACP 45 long Colt I'm sure Though nobody's checked this yet, and I haven't had time to look at it myself It's got a two and a half inch shot shot shell chamber right and actually means it's got to have a straight tube cylinder if that's the case 4570 or 4560 or 4550 straight rifle cases should work which would give you a solid brass case for that chamber and that's a much better choice. for your shot shell. In fact, it wouldn't be a shot shell then, necessarily. You could do 45 long colt. And here's the kicker, guys. With the 4570 it was designed or 50, or either the 4550, 4560, or 4570 is a black powder case originally. Now what that means is that big old judge or whatever the other there's covers three of them out there right now that are all the big frame 45 long colt with an extended cylinder that takes shotgun shells and just as a utility case round the cool thing is is to get more Magnum power out of the large case straight case Black powder charge if need be down the road. You can always make black powder. You can always cast lead bullets and And primers would be the only issue, but fominate can be made from scratch. You can make, reactivate every primer you got. And the bigger the primer, the easier it is to rebuild it or to fabricate new. So think about this, those big shotgun shell primers are nice, large, crude, and rude components, easier to rebuild, but also easier to copy and make. Now the other thing, I don't want to get hit with a 410 slug. I don't want to get hit with a 45 long Colt round. So it's got some decent fire power, but it's also got the ability. These things have the ability to reach out and talk to somebody if built properly. Now the other thing to consider are lighter bullets. with a black powder charge or with a again a whatever whatever shot shell charge you want to go with if I were going with the 410 as a shot shell by the way I would go either with BB or with double out buck in triple shot typically if you go double out buck you're gonna get three rounds in a row or three rounds kind of slightly staggered because it's 45 you know 410 slash 45 caliber in terms of the boar. But it's a hog leg, it's a beast, all else fails, beat the snout out of them, at least it gives you something to beat somebody with at close range. It's $420 for a refurbished tourist. Now I don't know what they mean by refurbished. I don't know what they did. I haven't had a chance to really say, hey, where did these come from that they had to come back in, get refurbished, and go back out? That would be my question. Was it something they did? Now, I don't also believe that these are, again, brush chrome. I don't believe they're stainless. Although I can. I haven't got confirmation on that and I haven't had time to really look it up. But it just jumped out at me because Right now they're charging $500, $600 for a Glock. Now there are two different weapons, apples and oranges in some ways, but you know if you load that Taurus with number four or double-op buck, use a brass case, go with a nice shape base for that, don't necessarily go with a wad, inside a house you don't need to fire five or six times. If you fire once, pull the trigger, it hits, they're dead. Okay, plus solid shot rounds would be kind of cool. And again, now the reason I bring up the difference in whether anybody's tried the solid brass like 45-70 cases, at 2.5 inches, you might not be able to load a 45-70 case, but you got to remember that all they did with the straight brass cases back in the day, guys, they started out with 44-40 or the 45-40 40 case or they went to the 45 50 case the only difference between them they made the case longer They didn't change the dimension of the case They just extruded the case and made it longer. So the 44 you know the 45 40 case is like a 40 44 40 Winchester reload basically the next wheel well 45 and instead the 40 45 50 is just a longer case. It carries 10 more grains of black powder. That's how you determine. That's what like 45-70. The 45 identifies the caliber. The 70 determines the amount of black powder that the case can hold if it were dipped and loaded. Huh? Oh yeah, it was that crude, guys. So, 50-70 and 60-70, or forgive me, 45-50, 45-60 and 45-70 are progressively longer. So whichever one would fit this revolver is what you would go with. That would give you more powder. The case definitely, there's nothing about this gun is going to be harmed by black powder. You can't produce enough pressure. If it can handle smokeless powder and a 45 long coat load, it's not going to have any problem with the black powder load in whatever you want to put in it basically. Just something to think about there. That's the basic rule. But doing a little research and a little studying, this is a very diverse gun for $420 considering what they want for everything else. Right now, a 6 shot Model 64 stainless steel, which is a great gun by the way. I love the weapon. It's a K-frame. It's got all the best features. It's stainless steel, pock mire grips, and it's a 4 inch barrel, so it's a combat target pistol and 38 special. Right now $369 used over at JGSales.com. But that's a used gun. And we probably built back, oh, about 25, 30 years ago. department gun police gun bob bear bob hammers by the way but still double in single-action this is four hundred twenty dollars you get a hand cannon you get a mobile artillery piece why get like i said for cavalry scout or for you again for a utility one gun does a lot of work here well that would be where would it would make ends meet it would be serviceable enough but just something to bring up there anyway something to mention caller so do we have a mark go jump in their color yeah i am not A couple months ago you told a story about how Scandinavians teach your kids never to sell your weapons or whatever. Our Finnish friends up in the Upper Peninsula, guns are for buying, not for selling. I'm ashamed to say that I have about four boxes of 45-70 and I no longer have the weapon. You know that said you know I've been debating on what to do with these because I mean you got 410 grains of you know Here are a couple of solutions. Number one, there are some, and you have to look around because I'm not sure. I haven't looked at all the companies, but there are several companies that are now producing pre-1898, brand new guns to the pre-98 designs. You'll notice that they got the horn that goes one of them. Now for years, Browning has made a trapping block. They made a dropping block buffalo gun for years. The problem is brownies are always expensive. I used to be a browning distributor back years ago. We used to actually be able to pick and choose, cherry pick. They made several 45-70s. In fact, they made a lever gun, a lever gun browning in 45-70. Beautiful firearm. But the problem is affordability. Now, these copies that are being made, These guns make the Lever Action 91 Winchester shotgun. They make the trench gun, the Model 97, the Pre-1898. but they also make the leather gun, they make two or three of the Marlin pumps now that are copies of the pre-98 pumps for all these competition shooters. Well what's cool is these companies are also making copies of the single shot Remington rolling blocks, they're making copies of the sharps guns, they're making copies of pretty much everything. So, if you were looking for a 45-70 gun, your option would be to head in that direction. Now, that's one thing to watch for. The other thing that I think would be cheaper, H&R, remember before they changed their name to whatever they are. Now, when they got bought out, you know, they got, they went out of business, they got bought by somebody else. H&R, before they changed their name, remember, came up with a bunch of single-shot standard, bicycle, you know, shotgun, you know, the top brake shotgun, single shot, but in rifle calibers. And one of them that they did was .4570. Now, if you look around, that won't be as much of a collector's item, but that would be a real sweet single-shot sniper rifle in .4570. That would be a freight train driver, because you can't overpressure that gun. Name of that again, please. It'd be the H&R. It's the H&R single-shot rifle. They had a couple different names for it, but it's a top-ranked single-shot shotgun, only instead they did it in rifle calibers. It was their same basic shotgun frame, but they did it in rifle calibers, and they did do them in 4570. And the rifle. Repeat what I said. I remember. The handy rifle. The handy rifle, thank you. They made them in also .223, .308, .243 Winchester, and I know they made them in .200, not .270. What was it? They made them in Swift, .22 Swift. Now the Swift, if it was in pecking order, the .4570 is a good choice. It's not as easy to find ammo anymore, what it used to be, but .4570 is a good choice because it's a big blockbuster going down range. The 223 is a little lighter and smaller in general. They went with a smaller barrel like the Youth barrel. In .308 it's got the bigger barrel and heavier barrel again. Let's see, what was the other one? In .243, same as the .308 basically. And then the Swift, they went with a smaller, leaner barrel but a longer barrel. So there's a mix. And with the .4570, I would say if you shopped around, you'll probably find that for the best price in a top break gun. Well you know Mark, a couple things I was considering. If I get a few hundred bucks again, I'm not sure I'd buy the rifle at the Gander Mountain up here near us. I've seen a revolver with 45-70. I wondered if that ammo would be good for barter one day. Oh, absolutely. Like I said, think about this. Any ammunition right now, I'd be canning away, first of all. If it's really like odds and ends stuff, the only thing I do now, for instance, in trade, if I was collecting brass off the range like we've always done, what we do is we take the really odd man stuff out and put it off to the side. But as far as loaded ammunition goes, for as long as I've always been patient, I usually get five, six rounds here, ten rounds there, twenty rounds or a whole big box full of mixed stuff. Well, if you're patient... I've got like for instance canned 32 Smith and Wesson short, 32 Colt short, I've got hundreds of rounds. Now I didn't buy them all at once, I just patiently collected them and make sure I sorted everything out. Now somebody's gonna show up with a 32 top break, you know Colt or a Smith, and they're not gonna have ammo for it. You know what, you're gonna be able to put stipple, you know you're gonna put little maggot holes in somebody with that gun, because we have ammo for it. The other thing is like you said, barter and trade, somebody else is gonna have that gun. Not a great gun, but you know what? If it goes pop, pop, boom, boom, it's better than harsh language and throwing rocks. That's right. Go ahead Fluffy. Go ahead Fluffy. Go ahead Fluffy. Go ahead Fluffy. Go ahead Fluffy. The pawn shop right around the corner from me has one of those single shot rifles in 444 Remington, I think it is. 444 Marlin, probably. There is a 444 Remington, but the Marlins are more common of the two. The 444 Marlins. But either one is a good cartridge. It's basically in the same family as the 45-70. Very comfortable. The 444 Marlins came out about the same time as the Savage, the new Savage line back in the 20s and 30s. It has actually stuck around. A lot of people, I think the resurrection of that came in 1978-79. Marlon Reed reintroduced the cartridge to a limited degree, mostly in the lever guns. You do find it in the top brakes, but mostly in the lever guns. It was like 45-70, very popular. It's hard hitting. It goes down range like a freight train. It's not as fast. I wouldn't want to get hit by it. I have seen what it does. That's a mean car hatch. Go ahead, jump in there. If you get a hold of 45.7 you might want to pick the Lyman 310 tool and a bolt mold from Lyman. You can put a pound of powder and a couple hundred caps in your pocket. and 45 caliber 500 grain projectiles. And I'll tell you what, we kept that at 50 yards when we first started out experimenting, about 29 grains of unique, actually, forgive me, not unique, we started with red dot. We started out with a light pistol powder. We experimented with several different powders, but we dropped the load way down. We were getting again no sound, we brought the load back so we had no muzzle flash period. Now a guy was shooting .22 CB cap next to us out of a single shot rifle and he was making more noise than that .45-70 was. But when that bullet goes down range at 500 grains, just under supersonic, I'll tell you what, it would be like you watch something slide sideways. I've seen that happen with deer. you know with a standard 45-70 with a 50 grain bullet you know using a black powder charger using a pyrotex charge so I would want to get shot by it you know what I mean? Do you have to call me on the case when you do that? You can't now there's a couple different options you can you can either to load at volume out so you don't have the powder panning you know thank you for bringing up because that's something else that you got to remember there's two different ways to do that you can patch it One of the tricks, an old one, is to take tissue paper and just patch it so it pops it back next to the... lays the powder to the primer. If you don't do that and you've got a very...
