And they were like, what? And I was like, yeah, I want a real S-cast, which is like the one that was shooting at me back during the war on it, like a war trophy thing put on the wall. So all of a sudden, they started looking around, and they brought in regular S-castes with the bayonet log, with the bayonet. Remember that, guys? And they were $56. The reason they were $56 is because over in China, they were paying $11 a piece for those rifles. The guys that brought in the big piles of them where they filled whole warehouses, they paid as little as $9 a piece. And the Chinese in fact had millions of piles of parts laying around in where it looked just like big. One of our guys here in Michigan, Midwest Arms, he went over to China, literally it was just It's a big hollowed out, like, echoing bin type factory. The piles of parts were literally stacked like you would see piles of coal. The side bins, would it be a wall? Would it be all these mamastans? This big long conveyor in the middle and they literally was like a Bugs Bunny cartoon. All they were doing is they have a bucket of parts and they were assembling the rifle and sending it on down the line, down the line, down the line. And at the end, the rifles literally rolled off the end and piled up off the conveyor onto the ground. The latest batch SKS's in moist and nagots that are coming in that are short carbines, .44's with a side-folder bayonet. Guys, those are coming from Vietnam. And so if you want something that is literally the weapon that was probably shooting at you back during the, you know, campaign of the day that you were in, if you were in the Vietnam War, those are the rifles that are now coming in. They've got they've got typically crack stocks. They're not as pretty on the outside. They're functional, but they're not pretty. For $200 that's all you need. Okay, in other words you save $100. The regular SKS's they're selling are going for about $300 to $319. depending on how many you buy. But they have a handful that are field grade but they have flaws. Now if it's a crack stock, let me give you a hint. You're saving $100. You can go to a dozen different locations and get a Zytel nylon stock for about $40 to $45 right now. Tapco makes a number of them, but you can also find wooden stocks for the SKS for about $5 to $10, you know, $15 apiece in field grade, not pretty, but you know, more than service. However you choose to do it, you're saving $100 and you're getting the same basic weapon that's available through your inventory, but you're saving money, okay? That's the big thing, you're saving money. So for 10 of you, or whoever gets there again first, Well, you've got the opportunity to actually pick up a pretty decent rifle and dress it up however you want. Now, I wouldn't go with a folder stock. I'm going to say something right now. Don't go with a folder stock. A lot of you have no need for a folding stock. It's not going to serve your purpose. And again, you need to be this way. The weapon needs to fit you. To be quite honest, the one of the nice stocks that work well, if you're going to go with the Zytel, The Monte Carlo, Cheek-Pea, S-cock, Standard, those are pretty cheap and there's a bunch of them out there because there aren't that many S-castes laying around anymore. You know, 10 years ago, there were a lot. 20 years ago, there were tons. We're on the other end of the S-cast market. So there's lots of stuff laying around. Ball ammunition is your first best choice. Soft point ammunition would be your second, the hollow point would be last. Now performance varies and most SKS's will handle all three of those loads. Most any 762x39 will handle most of those loads. But it is more likely that you're going to have a hang up with that hollow point ammunition, a random hang up. I've shot too many millions of rounds out of these weapons and training. We've watched this over and over again. I've run ranges, we've been shooting this stuff for 20 years. In fact 30 years now because this is the year 2013. Well hell yeah, since the early 80s. Now in that time, Remember that the hollow point ammunition, what they've done is nipped off the end of the round. They're not making a hollow point specific bullet, guys. The process they're using, I'm amazed we haven't had more unique problems. But one of the things is that on occasion that hollow point 7.62x39 made in a steel case, that very flat, narrow surface will touch or hang up on the feed rail happen sometimes with some of these weapons a lot most of them not very often but do you want to take that chance now if you have a bunch of the hollow point don't get rid of it or anything just understand and be ready for an immediate action drill and know that there's a possibility but everything right now ball ammunition cost the same price as the hollow point and the soft point cost a little bit more they're charging a little bit more now if you've noticed The price on the soft point with the full lead exposed is running about 15, 20, 30, 40 dollars more per case. Expect that. It's what's going to happen. It's what you're going to run into. Now because of that, you need to understand that in and of itself, means that's 20, 30, 40 dollars you could have spent on more ball ammunition. You'd have had more ammo for less money buying the ball ammo. And for utility work, for penetration, for again, range, etc., and stability, ball round is still your best choice, 6.2x39, or for that matter, for pretty much any other military weapon that you're using. The idea here is to remember that, especially if you have a 5.10 program, if you're going to hand out one of those SKS's, a lot of the people you're going to give them to don't have very much experience malfunction or cause malfunction, you're going to be confusing what is already a shooter who doesn't. on the range and we're trying to bring them up and it's an OJT experience on the job training. The less that that shooter has to worry about, the more of that shooter can focus on target acquisition and putting down the target, the better off you're all be, and the more likely you'll all survive. So ball ammunition, that's the argument behind it, that's why we're promoting it, that's why I always promote it because the shooter is focusing on the objective. Now it doesn't mean you shouldn't know immediate action drills for every weapon you've got. But, simplify things.
