Mark Koernke discussed rifle marksmanship, shooting techniques, and long-range accuracy during this October 2010 morning broadcast. The episode featured extensive commentary on windage, Kentucky windage terminology, historical rifle development, and practical shooting instruction covering distances from 100 yards to 1,800 yards. Koernke emphasized the importance of muscle memory, proper training, and mastering comfort zones with firearms, while critiquing how modern shooters have been conditioned to underestimate effective shooting distances. The show included discussion of various rifle platforms including the M14, M16, SKS, 1903 Springfield, and .50 caliber weapons, along with historical comparisons to early 20th-century marksmanship standards.
And we are getting to the top here, we probably are going to hear the music any minute. And, well, I might have to make my way. Well, I can do that. We have the technology. It's kind of like, remember the Six Million Dollar Man? We can do this. So, in all possible of any special reports or any special like weekend, because it'll be cool. Should we take a break? Maybe we should. Let's try this idea. Time for me to slip into the TARDIS. Yeah, we do. We're going to take a bit of a break here and you're listening to... ...Biker Effect in the morning. God bless the Republic. Death of the New World Order. We shall prevail, ladies and gentlemen. The Empire is on the run. And we are on the march. We will be back. You know? Well, a few minutes. Depending on how things go here, I might have to take over the network for a little bit the rest of the way. You may have to do all the work. Sure. Recognize the music? Well if you don't, it's Doctor Who, done by our British friends overseas. You know, public broadcasting that... supposed to be public broadcasting America, but everything out of its English, you know, from in Britain. What's that all about? We'll talk more about that there in Lionsgate later on. Anyway, this is Friday. You all stay tuned, pay attention. I'll see if we can find us some of the cool stuff to plug in here for a little bit to give me a little bit of a break. Yeah... In fact, I think, uh, wait a minute, I hear the TARDIS kicking in again. In the way, I'm in one of my more, it's kind of one of the more, but this one's not really a pic or like a folk type piece that paints a picture, which is what I like about Mazzaya Mountain. And since I don't hear the music, let's see if we can throw some more tunes up here for you for just a minute or two. Second on, the Learning Intelligence Rubric Network in the morning. We're also on radio.4mg.com on AMFM Micro Station. I'll wait hide all the fun you stop the anyway then back over the Mississippi to the children's bike project across the whole crew the grammar teams the okay teams many more but grandma ma Belle group up there in the clean air headed towards invading parma parma not permit Michigan anyway it is a beautiful we got a few clouds in the skies now listen moving fast make it some more weather this afternoon but right now it's it is the of October second year 2010 by older 15th I think it's a work day In the morning you put that alarm clock on for a read day today. My goodness, we had fill in the blank take place. So this is the thousands and thousands of the drag everybody out on down. I knew what happened to that baby. There's to visits, the child would have died and then died. The cult exsitter. And the year to find out more, a little cult click. Pull phone, the Hampshire phone system for... It's really cool. It's an effect because they take away from the rest of the Shysters and this. Everybody that steals the 60 minutes. Is she going? Don, what's it like up there where you are? I'm not sure about Wolf, but I'm thinking the weather's too nice, guys. Number one, two, and three are... So guys, the clocks are ticking and he's a-burning. There's about a one to two mile an hour. Again, there's something you need to pay attention to. There are you guys, if you can board one of these little, it's not like, well, you're up there that's placed that in the window, that you look out more. If you're gonna take 10 or 15 minutes a day and do this, talk about this too, because you know that 10 or 15 minutes a day, if you do something every day for like 30 days, 40 days, there's a reason why you do things in the military. to the point of tedium and you know, well you're just going to puke. It works into the muscle memory, it works into the gray matter to the point where many times you don't have to think about it. And look at that wind indicator. Give me just a second, Mark. I got somebody at the door. It's important to know when understanding how to calibrate and calculate, it becomes an automatic math table for you. But you have to have time on the range and you also need to experiment. One of the things that a lot of people use are optics. I know that's really cool because I'll pick the lowest. We'll be right in. But I hear the music and say what we're going to do, we're going to take a break here. Michael Effect is not working. So MichaelEffect.com and go Michael Effect in the morning. Listening to the Intel Report, we are almost to the bottom here. That's Mizzaya Mountain, by the way. We've read Patriot bands, we've got Pokerface, Zaimong, Steve Voss, groups that are just for instance with the Wolverines, etc. And they've done, uh, done continue because I know you still have. Well you guys, talking about that little mechanical log and one thing and I'm not making an excuse there, we're just trying to get to the tops of the trees. Now again, as explained, one mile an hour. I'll tell you what you guys, and Mark, you and I talked about this enough. Take the big gun and I walk across here and I go up into shooting down. And you and I talked about this off the air, Mark. hundred yards of air. If you remember this Mark, I came in and I watched the news evening and they told me we had burst in the Big Rapids. You guys, you know where that came from? That, that, what was an hour wind? You guys, if you're drilling yourself, if you try to do this every day for 30, because he wants that muscle memory, he wants those pathways established in that, put around the planet, that gray matter between your, don't ever try to do anything when you're fighting, you've never done before, but fight is, do you think that's a tumor in, you know, that bullet? If your buddies got it, which is Mark, they have the readout right there on the body. So that's going to kind of be a hindrance unless you take your little pen power binoculars and you look up there on top of the shed or cut into that tree limb and try to read it from a distance. So again, you guys, you know, you can stand out there and use it. But again, if you're comfortable studying, you're going to you're going to soak things up better. And we've talked about creature comfort and whatnot. But you know what you're trying to do is create a comfort zone that you mask in. And if it's just from, well, if it's the bayonet, it's at the end of your arm's reach plus that metal length, isn't it? And if it's at the end of your gun's range, you want to master that and call it your comfort zone. Don't think about it. Because now, you know, we've talked about creature comfort and the silks, the pajamas, but even the Baron, after he was taken out of his leather flying suit, he had silk pajamas on underneath. And that was to keep the leather from digging into them and upgrading it. But it was creature comfort. We've talked about that. But you know, that creature comfort of mastering that 1,200 yards or 1,600 or 1,800 yards in any direction, that's a comfort of thought. It sure is. 1,800 yards in all directions. We got music behind us. We're heading to break. Yep. We're right up to the bottom of the hour, you guys. The Micro Effect, the broadcast network in the morning. The microeffect.com or, oh, well, how about? I've seen him stand outside. That's like the old shooter that, that pick up the dust and you've seen it and you might laugh. Little bit of dust, finger and thumb, and watch as it falls. He's getting an indication of him. There are many people, even Mr. Culp out of Texas, a 9 or 12 time Pahoma winner, only he doesn't look too, he counts on them, the muzzle speed. There are many different ways to get there, but you have to do it yourself. I can only put so many thoughts in you, but look at the love that it gives you and then look across the indicators out there. Even the birds guide the way the tops, the way the bottoms, but I'll quit. I hope I've tweaked. One of the things that we... I kind of overlapped this before we got you back up. We're planning on using, but one of the ways there's a term we keep using here, what's that term? Kentucky windage. Where did that come from? What you had was iron. Again. rifle marksman if you're going to be accurate you need to immerse yourself in all the technologies I'm a firm believer in technologies fix whatever album is this we perfected rifle marksmanship here because of the technologies that were put into the hands of came back even 100 years ago this is 2010 1910 we had the 1903 spring forward in service and in good quantity and it was a precision right so that both a marimba of different with regard to what the shooter was bringing to the rifle. Unlike most, in that period of time, with a V, you know, so you have a V, what we call a V-not system, so you have the option for windage and... Now you figure out where the bullet goes. And of course, going back to the days of the rifleman, when you see the term rifleman, I think this is something that's really hard for people to understand. When you see a unit where it says rifleman, that is referencing to is back to the old days, the independence, and the fact that they were a rifle unit Morgan's rifles for rifle designating. It depends on where they are. And he was showing this guy Billy right in the of a M2 in Vietnam. 100 yards. The flight time. 100 yards. He thought he missed. 85 yards when he stood up at just the right and he caught that bullet in the head. He said, well, the ability to look at the cart a day at the ranching well and the cost. Most important is when you can do that, but you can do it. Like to be able to take specific estimation is to walk the use a gallon jug, put the lid back on, you know, put the cap back on it, but not at 25 yards. Take it out to 100 and 150. Take your iron sights. Now I can, I'm not bragging, but I've got an SKS, beyond the shadow of a doubt, it's probably one of the most accurate SKS's I've ever owned. I can take that one gallon milk jug and walk it. Perfect engineering combo. The rifle on the outside is not pretty. I will tell you that right now. It's like, yeah, I'll let you get it. Not at all. I won't look a little tired. Well, that one looks a little... But most important is, they caught me a great deal. You have to make it. Not everybody is going to be a quote-unquote. Not everybody is necessarily going to have psychological makeup. Just with regard to background people, everybody's head down to a degree because they'll probably be hitting some over volume fire. If you hit them, everything else is BS. I don't want to be part of an accuracy, how that works. And it's really the truth. When we're talking 1800 yards, we're not talking unstickly 18 yards. We're talking stickly today. It's with a 50 caliber bolt gun of automatic life. And any of them, any 50 caliber will reach that. It's still an option. If they're taking fire, they've got a take cover. They've got a fire maneuver. That half inch was good. Yeah, well, thinking about the world of factor, that comfort zone would really be inflated when light up the... Yep. Because their logic is that has to be the engagement. Exactly. That's psychologically how most everybody is conditioned that, well, you can't hit past 200 yards. 200 yards? My God, people, the M14, I was engaging, I was trained to engage at 575 meters. That was the standard long target and in fact even with the M16, at least until recent I guess, 220 yards is just a waste effort. Guys, part of qualification we had a 300 yard target and that's with the popcorn fart cartridge, you know the M16 cartridge with a 55 grain bullet. So please tell me again how we can't do this. I think that's my biggest problem here, this can't. It's like how the hell is it we dumb down everybody? 100 years ago I challenge all of you, take the time to do this, go out and get a 1903, sprucing 17 Enfield. We didn't have a garand, we didn't have all these other cool newer technologies. Also look at the techniques they were training the men to fire. To use the weapon. Reverse slope idea that I can teach my men to actually reverse slope. Beyond the opposite slope. From the scene to my enemy. And it was expected of troops and they were trained and they actually used the technique people. Now everybody all out, just impolite all cameras and without, don't tell me that. Obviously something's wrong here. Supposedly these people were not as well educated and wholly, wholly, a fixed education for them. They seem to be pretty good at math. It worked, yeah, it worked for them. And again, they were using that grossly overpowered 30-06 cartridge. Of course, this may have had the Jorgensen or the Craig. Either way, aren't in advance. We've had to work with the two that have been shoved at us. And they were shoved at us by people. Interestness is each other's shysters knocking but buddies, Ford Foundation and things. Take a look at the history of what we got. Mention something else again, because we're almost at the top. Back in the 60s, one of the biggest nightmares for the US soldier, main ball powder, that large ball powder, flying stuff made over season in the Pavia, you name it, guys, they were built mostly, they were firing the 7.62x39 rifle, the AK-47. The powders out there were built for those weapons, which were much, shall we say, more on the past. Yeah, easier to clean. Those powders are now being used in the M16 with defecates where it eats, flash, in our AR-15s. Be prepared to clean and do not be surprised if you see the exact same falling problems that your uncle or your grandpa or your dad told you about from Vietnam. In 1964, 65 and 66, whole units were killed because of malfunctions with weapons that should not have taken place. Yeah, well, scrub it out in the pond there when you're done. No, well, that's what they were told actually by the way. That's a little story we'll save for next Monday. Anyway, we are at the top of the hour. Frankly speaking, coming up next, Don, your number for night vision, please. Two, three, one, seven, nine, six. I love all their music, but Shiloh, listen to the words. We'll be back Monday, Frankly Speakin's coming to Mexico. Would you touch that dial? Grab another cup of coffee? We'll see you then.
