Mark Koernke hosted the Friday evening edition of The Intelligence Report, focusing on preparedness and supply acquisition. The show covered practical topics including boot selection for long-term wear, fireworks closeout sales on July 5th, and tributes to deceased militia commander Clint Dair, with announcements of a 21-gun salute and a Patriot's picnic in Gladwin, Michigan on July 31st. Callers and co-host BK discussed bargain shopping at dollar stores and Harbor Freight, salvaging components from failed compact fluorescent bulbs, AR-15 magazine deals from DSG Arms, and driveway alert devices. The episode emphasized accumulating supplies and tools at discount prices while available, with warnings about consolidation of retail chains and declining product quality.
Live 365. And speaking low to me, he said, We fought a revolution to secure our liberty. We wrote the Constitution as a shield from tyranny. For future generations, this legacy we gave. In this, the land of the free and home of the brave. The freedoms we secured for you, we hoped you'd always keep. But tyrants labored endlessly while your parents were asleep. Your freedom's gone, your courage lost, you're no more than a slave. In this, the land of the free and home of the brave. You buy permits to travel and permits to own a gun. Permits to start a business or to build a place for one. On land that you believe you own, you pay a yearly rent. Although you have no voice in saying how the money's spent. Your children must attend a school that doesn't educate. And your Christian values can't be taught according to the state. You read about the current news in a regulated press and you pay a tax you do not owe to please the IRS Your money is no longer made of silver nor of gold you trade your wealth for paper so your life can be controlled You pay for crimes that make our nation turn from God and shame You've taken Satan's number you traded in your name You've given government control to those who do you harm so they could burn down churches and seize the family farm and keep our country deep in debt. Put men of God in jail. Harash your fellow countrymen while corrupted courts prevail. Your public servants don't uphold the solemn oaths they've sworn. And your daughters visit doctors so their children won't be born. Your leaders send artillery and guns to foreign shores and send your sons to slaughter fighting other people's wars. Can you regain the freedoms for which we fought and died? Or don't you have the courage or the faith to stand with pride? And are there no more values for which you will fight to save? Or do you wish your children to live in fear and be a slave? Both sons of the Republic arise. Take a stand. Defend the Constitution, the Supreme Law of the land. Preserve our great Republic and each God given right. And pray to God to keep the torch of freedom burning bright. As I awoke, he vanished in the mist for whence he came. His words were true. We are not free, but we have ourselves to blame. For even now as tyrants trample each God given right we only watch him tremble too afraid to stand and fight If he stood by your bedside in a dream while you were asleep and wondered what remains of the freedoms he fought to keep What would be your answer if he called out from the grave? This distilled the land of the well good evening ladies and gentlemen This is the evening intelligence report. I'm our quirky and the butter knife one day closer to victory for all of our brothers and sisters both on and behind the lines in occupied territories Central West Southeast and North. Well ladies and gentlemen you are listening to us on LibertyTreeRadio.4mg.com, pbn.4mg.com and we are in live 365 and go to Liberty Tree Radio, World Soil On, AM&FM Microstations, CB Base Stations, and UltraNet Technologies both east and west of the Mississippi along with southern and central Alaska. We are on the Hallmark Network on the eastern seaboard from the top of Maine to the bottom of Florida from the bottom of Florida across the arc of the Gulf of Mexico headed towards Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma, Chunk of Nebraska, the third of Wyoming and our, I want to say hi to our friends in Iowa slash Iowa. So many, over so many counties. It's really a fantastic event. Keep up the good work in building more micros. Then across the Mississippi, the Golden Spike Project with the, well, many, many, many people making that happen. Congratulations there. We appreciate the work. It is a It is Friday evening, the last hour of the day and of the week for the intelligence report. And that means that we are going to be dealing with everything from A to Z, bullets to beans, to Bibles, to broadcast technology and everything in between. And all the small parts, pieces, and assemblies that keep an army in the field and running. We're not going to end up with rags in our feet and bloody footprints in the snow. That's one of the things they're trying to do. Shoes are disappearing. Boots are disappearing in any good quantity, especially well-made boots. So really, really a priority if you have any money left. and you're talking about, well I need to be able to work every day. Well, buy whatever you have in the way of a decent boot that fits well and break them in. And not just one pair, try to get three pairs at least. You may shop around in different ways, you may have to skim on one to make that happen. But try to have at least three pairs of good utility work slash combat boots on the shelf. Now beware, example, I've got one pair that are beautiful pair of steel toe shoes. They've saved my toes a couple times with all the lumber work that we do around here, especially with cutting firewood. But as far as the particular design of that boot and walking anywhere, Well, you can walk, but it ain't comfortable. And it's not long term walking, especially very uncomfortable. So there are balances depending upon the type of design. In some cases, their logic is it's a work boot for a workstation. There's pungy protection, in other words, plates for the feet, base of the feet. wrap around cap for the heel and of course a wrap around cap for the toes. All that works just fine but typically doesn't flex very well, which your feet need to do when you're walking otherwise you're starting to stress tendons and work muscles in ways that they weren't meant to be worked. Yeah, I wouldn't recommend mouse boots or bunny boots as your average hiking boot for instance. You see the flexibility issues there. So again, what we need to look at here guys are solutions. Watch for sales, watch for people getting rid of other booths, especially if they're like have yard sales. We were a discussion between the hours here about that with some of the stuff that's showing up at the auctions down Hillsdale. Lots and lots of stuff down Hillsdale, Michigan. going through for pennies on the dollar because nobody has any money to buy at the auction. People are thinking, I'm going to sell stuff and make my money back. I'm going to sell my stuff. Well, the problem is, had you done that, say, a year ago or two years ago, you probably got more. But right now, in all these depressed areas, people don't have any money to spend on the stuff that you put out. So things that would be tens or hundreds or even a thousand dollar items, you know, would be quite expensive, have come down dramatically in price. And especially if you're looking for supply items and support items for our deployment on the border. Here's the place to go. So we're going to send troops down that way to do a survey of the sites and watch to see what comes through and, you know, pick and glean as we can. Now, BK, I know we've got a few things to cover here. What have you got for us tonight? We've got a few miscellaneous odd finance. As usual, I like to mention most evenings, PBN runs on a shoestring gang and anybody that can toss a few pennies into the pot, it is greatly appreciated. There is a PayPal donate page on libertytreeradio.4mg.com. It allows one time or repeating donations. I did the $5 a month repeating donations. So, anybody who can donate to that and is so inclined, we are encouraging you to do so. It is a good thing and very much needed. Alright, we mentioned earlier that it is 2 July. That means we are approaching one of my favorite holidays, July 5th. Oh wait a minute, did I say 4th? No, I said 5th. The old butter knife has a slightly different bent on some topics. I like July 5th because that's the day when all of the seasonal fireworks stands go into closeout mode. And the traditional closeout markdown is 50%. Believe me everybody when I tell you that marking down their fireworks by 50% is still a tremendous consumer markup. So don't feel too sorry for those guys. But anybody that still needs smoke, that is a possibility, a place to look. Be advised if you didn't already know. that commercial fireworks are very, very deceptive in their packaging. Sometimes the great big cardboard cylinder doesn't actually contain much stuff. So, my recommendations would be if you know which brands and models of smoke bombs, for instance, are effective, great. If you don't, I would suggest going out and buying one or two of this and one or two of that ahead of time, trying them out and seeing which ones are all cardboard and no contents or vice versa and deciding which ones you like and go back on the fifth. and clean them out. That is an opportunity that arises once a year and therefore July 5 should be exploited if that's one of the items on your shopping list. Comments? Go ahead. Especially with the supply and support system set up the way it is right now, guys, if you can find it and you can find it for a good price or a reasonable price, don't hesitate, don't wait. On the other hand, if it's on your priority list, make sure that you at least put something in that niche. You know, something. In other words, get to a certain level of preparedness and then move on to the next. I'll tell you what, before we move any farther, BK, I think we have another caller. Who do we have? Hey, you got a white buffalo there Mark. Uh oh, I'll tell you what. Let's do this. What do you got for us, white buffalo? Go ahead. Well, I've got a few announcements. The first one is everybody wanted to be in Clint Dares' 21-gun flute. There were so many people that we've decided to do that July 4th. at one o'clock computer time that way everybody is doing it simultaneously and what better way for send off for Clint Baer than have all the Calendars do a twenty month gun salute. Well why stand on tradition? Have a forty seven gun salute or a ninety two gun salute or however many show up. Doesn't that be just twenty one? Well we got plan to do it July 4th. Every county is going to do their own. That way, you know, he was instrumental in a lot of counties and instrumental with a lot of people. So we decided to do it that route. And I have one more announcement. We are having a Patriot's picnic July 31st in Gladwin, Michigan. And the address is 801 West. Sunoil Road, that's S-U-N-O-I-L, that's two words, that's Gladwin, Michigan, 48624. Again, that address is 801 West, Sunoil, S-U-N-O-I-L, that's two words, Gladwin, Michigan, G-L-A-D-W-I-N, Michigan, 48624. and it's going to be bring a dish to pass all patriots are welcome we hope this is the first Patriot's picnic we've had and we hope we have a good turnout. What time does it start again? It starts at 1 o'clock and goes until 8. Again it starts at 1 o'clock and goes until 8. Very good. And the date again for everybody go ahead top to bottom. Date time place. July 31st Patriot's picnic and that's 801 West Sun Orno Road, SUN, OIL, and that's Gladwin, Michigan, 48624. Excellent. A good response with the funeral? The funeral, I'm not sure how that went. I wasn't able to make it there today, but Aubrey did attend the funeral last night and he got a chance to talk to Denise He got a chance to see Clint and Clint's dog Otis. No. Like I said, Clint will be sorely missed. Well, as long as he punched out Otis, everything's okay. I'm just thankful that he was able to put an impact on everybody's lives that he did. He really put an impact on mine. He gave me more courage than what I had before. I got, the first time I got to talk to him, I talked to him for two hours and that conversation was more, a little bit more than two hours, like four, but he was supposed to be painting the room for his wife and he was getting the evil eye from his wife because he was on the phone. But like I said, he was an influence on me and I'll go into more detail on that later today. Well, actually I'm pretty sure that Clint is the first of the former Wolverine commanders to pass away. I mean to yeah, we didn't have anybody die in office and we've actually been everybody's pretty well been blessed with a fairly long life because a lot of these guys were you know and they're you know not later years, but they've been up there in years. Lynn Van Heisen of course you everybody knows Norm Olson, let's see who else and of course, Pilchek is another one. Joe Pilchek served for quite some time and we're served as brigade. All these men served as brigade commanders too, which is what everybody needs to understand. They worked as brigade commanders. And, go ahead. And might I add, Joe Pilchek also ran for governor. Yes. Against Engler. And we have... I still have one of the flyers where they had a baby with a dirty diaper on it that is time for a change. A real change, yeah. Well, the reason I bring that up is that again, we've been fortunate so far, but we've got to be prepared for this and we need to act accordingly. So I want to thank everybody who was able to step in and those who had the resources that were able to do their part. God bless you. Clint was already in bad health. We know that he was having health problems and the issue was not, you know, if he was going to require assistance, but how soon? So we've got that, well we know now that it was a terminal case and He is one of the people that now is going to be recorded, or benchmarked here on the wall that we have, along with others that have gone before him. But as a Wolverine commander, he's going to go down as a first. We've had many brigade commanders that have come and gone in the Wolverines, the militia at large, and in Colonial Marine units. That's expected. It's a unique position. I have to actually try to manage or to deal with because you're the direct line to what's going on across the state and in some cases across the nation. We did set up an infrastructure. We did set up a command structure that was intentional. It goes back years and years ago. There was a great debate over this. My only concern is, again, the Wolverines need to fix on their heritage and acknowledge the idea that you have elections. If a person is voted out, another person is voted in, it's a chance for command management opportunity. It has nothing to do with I'm going to rule. It has to do with you're going to manage. you're going to be learning because at every tier in the militia it's a learning experience. There's a lot of things, even if you've been in the military before and a lot of guys have, everybody's been in their branch of service. There are still things to be learned because you're dealing with a much larger structure than just a squad or a fire team or a platoon. We're looking at brigades and division strength formations that are realistically in the numbers that match their rating as far as what their position, their strength description is. So we get a lot of work ahead of us. I know we've got some state meeting coming up here pretty soon for the Wolverine Militia Corps. We'll find out more about that. Any other meetings going on up there that we should know about? Wait, Buffalo? I'm not ready at the moment. As soon as I hear about it anymore, I will let you know. And at the Patriot Sicknick, might I add, we are going to have a 21-gun salute. We're all over the fallen, like George McTooth's ex, Clint Dair, and numerous others that's gone on before them. So we are going to have a state command, and we hope everybody will attend at the Patriot Sicknick. All are welcome. Very good. Thank you, sir. Anything else? Alrighty, nope, that's it. Thank you Mark. Keep us up to speed. Will do. Take care of your team, God bless and have a good one. Thank you sir, bye bye. Bye. And we've got BK here. BK, go ahead, carry on where we left off there. Okay, finishing up the topic of commercial fireworks. I argue that large numbers of the smoke bombs out there are deceptively labeled and packaged. So you really do want to get some samples ahead of time and determine which ones are worthwhile and which ones are not to try to figure out what's cost effective. One of the things I would suggest is that there is a stupid little design that I have seen in the stands. This is one that is fairly small but it is surrounded in a piece of plastic blow molding and configured to vaguely resemble the old World War II pineapple grenade. But what's interesting about it is some of the variants on that have a match tip on the end so you can strike them on the strip from a box of matches. That is an interesting feature and I would suggest to people that the business of lighting a fuse is kind of awkward in a situation of high stress. It might be reasonable to bundle together a small item like that if it's got a striker head with a larger one that has a fuse. So you can end up with something that is a little bit quicker and more practical to use even if you are using a striker strip to ignite. At least you're not flicking a lighter. And I would also point out that the Germans were not stupid when they put handles on their potato measures. If you want to be able to throw these things a significant distance, and not everybody is a professional baseball player, putting a handle, a stick on anything that you want to throw is a very, very sensible measure. It doesn't add very much to the weight, it does add some to the bulk. But if you can toss something an extra 10 or 20 yards because of that, that may prove a very, very useful feature. So I would suggest people think about that and decide what they want to tape together in bundles and how they want to configure them and how they want to ignite them on short notice. So that's my comment on the fireworks thing. We have another beep. Yes, we do. Who do we have? We have Bo Winkle from Northern Idaho. Hey, Bo Winkle, jump in there. Yes, the dollar stores are closing in Pacific Northwest Oregon and Washington and they got some fantastic deals. They've got a four element LED flash light like right now two for a dollar. You flip the switch once and there's a silly little blue and red LED on the tail end that goes on. You flick it again off and then flick it again. You've got the main light on but 50 cents a piece or better by now. is great. The toiletries, the soaps, whatever are a great deal now for anybody listening in the Pacific Northwest now is the time to do it. Is that a particular chain that you named? I did not hear. Dollar Store. Apparently the owner of the chain of them up here is It's going through at least the end of July. I know that when I went in last time, there's a town in the middle of Washington called Acreida and they're moving everything out of that store and picking it all over the Spokane. So there's still plenty of stock for a while. Okay, very good. There's also a dollar tree, but this is not this, this is not that tree. Right, I'm familiar with that particular chain too, yeah. But yeah, for the people listening in the Pacific Northwest, they can get things like that. Nice packages of sandpaper, hydrogen peroxide, razors, shaving cream, things that you're going to need are dirt cheap. And this stuff isn't that. especially where you're looking at the trinket items that consume on the wallet. Otherwise, if you can buy them for less, you can put that much more on the shelf. Sure, there's a lot of band-aid-type stuff there too. The two-inch gauze pads, smaller, some bigger. And if the clerk is in the mood, you'll get things even cheaper. Don't overlook the minor hardware items, cheap pliers and wire cutters. They may not last your grandchildren, but they're useful for a butter knife pack or a handout. I've picked up spray paint in muted colors, light bungee cores, all kinds of good stuff in there. It's fairly well stocked so I passed by a lot of that stuff. The consumables I wanted to get and the hydrogen peroxide I actually got for like .5c bottle. It's a pint bottle or about that size. So I'm trying to get a case of that. Right, that's typically around a dollar so that's an excellent price on that. Very good, very good. That's all I had to say. Well very good. Actually again. Now back to the kitchen to do stuff for my wife now. No! Oh, you can still listen in. Absolutely, the computer is just muted here. Thank you sir, appreciate it. Thank you very much. So again, up in the northwest. dollar store line that's interesting the dollar store stores going out of business I don't know why they'd be going bankrupt except well there's tougher to find all the dollar store items that go in the dollar store that people are gonna want the size has been going down down down everybody saw that you know the little teddy but even the dollar aisle right now remember the little the the honey bears used to be about that tall guys about 6.5 to 7 inches tall. Well, if you wanted to do a Barbie outfit right now, or if you wanted to do a Care Bear food refrigerator like a Mini Cool, you could easily find all the little food items that would match Care Bear Scale or almost Barbie Scale with where everything's had to go to match the dollar store moniker, which is happening a lot. Right, the price of the dollar point, they have been shrinking the package size remarkably. I'm starting to see an awful lot of $2 items and $2.25 items and things like that in the otherwise dollar stores. You know he brought up a good point on that too and as you were pointing out the tools. I've got one place, it's the only place where the guy actually still has sockets, drivers for the sockets but separate and other mixed tools for a couple or two or three Chycom tools for a dollar. or a whole handful of chocolate, you know, quarter inch drive sockets. Well, they're nothing fanciest, but you know what? I used two of those sockets already several times and they haven't broken and they paid for themselves if they just worked the one time. But in this case, for about $0.10 a piece, or $0.20, depending on which packet is open, you're looking at a very reasonable price for a bunch of secondary tools. Another way to put a toolkit together for your vehicles that you won't pilfer from. You leave it in the vehicle. When you need it, you've got the basics there. Nothing fancy. Just enough to get you down the road. Not enough to rebuild an engine. But the interesting thing here is that only a few places around this area now have tools in any quantity or of any kind that are regular tools. There's a lot of plastic stuff. It looks the part, but it doesn't last through even one usage. So if you find a place like that, especially with the changing times, you might want to grab more of those tools and kind of put them away at a dollar a pack. If you'll notice in other places, they either aren't a dollar or they're, you know, $2, you know, the numbers, they're not there, or they're $2 and $3 an item or before it was a dollar for each of those individual packages. Hex Allen wrenches, micro screwdrivers, those are all handy tools and best to have a lot of them around. Because when you're working on stuff like that you always drop something or you walk away from one bench to the next and I what I did BK at Republic Radio years ago with our R.I. office in Battle Creek is the first thing that I did is I went out when the dollar-strad the really good multi-piece micro screwdriver Phillips and straight straight line you sprinkle the set at every potential point I bought 20 of them right away and I yes I had extras everywhere and you know what Some started to gravitate to positions so I could see the patterns, kind of like flow with water. I could see the pattern of who was carrying what where by how many extras showed up. But the cool thing is, there were still plenty in the drawer so that no single location was a hassle. The video production area, the maintenance area, the shop downstairs, the studio area next to the upstairs studio, the downstairs, there was a basement, we built an entire second studio down there. Very nice, I effect very good quality work, but we did all the throw away stuff from the U of M. And all the tools were dollar store tools, but we had dozens and dozens and dozens and dozens of them. That way there was no time lost because remember you're in radio. You can't be going, oh, where's the tool? Well, I just scrambling around for something. No, you can't do that. Better to have a whole pile of the same thing over and over and over again than one really good one, but you don't know where it is. Now think about that in a combat situation the same way guys. Saturation right now is a good thing, but something's happening that I warned everybody about. The dollar store thing was only allowed to destroy American downtown business. or the Walmarts. Now if you'll notice, the Walley World's prices are changing, dollar stores are going out of business are changing. Eventually, they're being consolidated into larger chains too. I discovered what was behind the massive price increase, rent increase on the local dollar store that I had been using. The landlord was basically forcing this guy out so that a franchise dollar store could come in. So the landlord announced that this guy's rent would be going up at the end of the lease by $6,000 a month. Did he care to pay for it? No, it wasn't feasible. Oh, surprise, surprise, a chain store opened a few slots down in the same block. So that's what's going on there. Like all other markets, eventually the franchises start taking over and the diversity drops off and the quality of the bargains drops off. Yep, exactly. In fact, the prices are, and we're already seeing this, the CHI-COM stuff is now up in the price range with no better quality. Replacing all of the mid-range American tools in most of the hardwares. The mid-range average show tool sets that were usually guaranteed for life. They weren't necessarily the prettiest finish all the time, but they were a decent finish. They were well bathed in chrome. and they worked. Well, they've been bumped by the CHI-COM stuff which kind of works and fractures that much faster. And interestingly enough, a bunch of the companies are running into problems now or let's put it this way, their older policy of replacement, automatic replacement, is now because of their problems with shifting their technology to China have put them out of the idea of being able to maintain their warranty. Now you have to turn them like For instance, tape measures. Yeah, the Craftsman lifetime warranty is, I don't know if they're still maintaining that, but it's certainly becoming harder to find that sort of offer. Exactly. And one of the reasons they're saying is, as somebody pointed out, it goes, gee, in the past, their tape measures were pretty reliable, but they've gone to dollar store quality. And they were eating a lot of hits from people taking in tape measures and going, hey, this broke. And I didn't abuse it, it just broke. So, it's happening as we expected. The technology is in replacing. If you want something better, you're going to have to pay $20 for tape measure. Right. Well, I'll tell you what, go ahead, I know you've got more. Please jump in. Alright, I have noticed a pattern recently from China Sport Tools, which is our favorite nickname for Harbor Freight, in that they continue to display what I consider signs of desperation I think that they're having a hard time moving their material in this economy. They're sending around these fliers and sheets full of coupons, etc. Coupons are, of course, safer for them to use than simple offers of, here's a mole-pimiter for $2. Surely you don't want more than one or two people like me go in there and buy half a dozen of them. So they're putting these things on a coupon basis now. But one of the things I've noticed is that as a teaser to get you in, there is routinely a coupon for a free flashlight. This is the same style of flashlight that I use fairly regularly, the little 9LED flashlights that use three AAAs and are about 3 inches long and 1 inch in diameter. I carry those around in my pocket all the time because I use those. They're giving those away free, one per coupon. You have to go up to the counter and ask for them and hand over the coupon and you're given one. One per customer, of course, but that's per customer per visit. But the other thing I have noticed is that the dates on the flyers generally run for a month or more, a month plus or minus, yet these flyers come out every week or two. So if you pay close attention to the flyers if you get them, and mark them for, read the very fine print on the expiration dates. you can probably mine coupons from two or three of those flyers and make a trip into that store. So you don't need to run down there every time they have a flyer and get one of this item and one of that item. You can save them, upkeep track of them and say, aha, today three different flyers are all applicable so I'll take one coupon from here and two from there, etc. and so forth. So, just a comment that seems to be feasible based on their expiration date. I think they put the expiration dates out for a while so you don't glance at that sneer and throw it away immediately, but they expect that the redemption pattern will fall off within days of one of these hitting the streets because people set them aside. I hope you saved them and wife throws them out because they're untidy, whatever the case may be. I, however, have been saving these things up and watching them. And if you're careful, you can milk coupons out of two or three of these things in a single trip, a single visit. In my case, it takes some gasoline to get to the nearest harbor freight, so I don't just run down there on a casual basis. I'll also point out that one of the items that I like there is the driveway alert device. It has one sensor and one enunciator. Their official list price on those things is $30. I think that's too much. Occasionally they come out on sale for $24 or $20 or $19. Right now they've got a coupon for one of those at $15. I think that's a no-brainer at $15. If you've got that coupon, I'd say go get it. Simple devices like that. may not be any challenge for the NSA to jam or thwart. But it doesn't matter so much in the field what you could conceivably have or what could conceivably be countered. Whether what matters is what you really do have and what you actually have fielded and whether an aggressor really does have the appropriate jamming equipment and so on and so forth. Maybe they get overconfident, whatever the case may be. So for $15 I think that's a very useful adjunct to any household even if you're not equipping a hard point. So I would recommend anybody that gets those fliers take another look if you haven't noticed that. Notice the $15 alarm device and grab one of those. That's a useful thing for your inventory. They will also run off of an external 6 volt. At least the enunciator will. So you don't necessarily have to stuff that thing full of C batteries, which is a little bit awkward. Questions or comments before we move on? Especially with regard to alternate power supplies and such. Any other options there with that? That is a very, very simple device. The sensor uses a 9-volt battery, and that's all it uses unless you wanted to do some surgery. And the sensor says, you want to put this in a sheltered location, you don't want rain to fall on it directly. So I would suggest that you want to run some super glue around the cracks in the front. And I like putting a sheet of duct work with the aluminized tape over the back. Put a battery in and slap tape over that so it covers up all the holes in the back so it doesn't get wet. But the pickup, the annunciator, the part that sits inside and whirls when it goes off, accepts C-cells as an external jack for a 6R supply if you want to switch externally to it, or do both. If you apply 6 volts, I bet that C-cells inside the thing will not be discharged at any significant rate. basically work out the same as a battery backed up device in the event of power being removed. Interesting. Well, the other thing is you said an add-on would be a little solar cell maybe and going with a rechargeable battery as an option. Remember, the sensor itself takes a 9-volt. So the sensor itself, you would have to do some surgery if you wanted to do that. But the detector, the part with the actual shrieking alarm that's intended to live indoors, that part has an external power jack. We picked up a couple of them. In fact, I was working on them here yesterday. We got a total of four of the same model. I picked up one that looks like it's the grandmother of all of them, probably Japanese made, from back during the heyday of the Japanese import. A little different variation. The strobe light, although it's interesting for being a little cheaper version of the same thing, the Japanese strobe looked to be a more expensive model. Of course they were into cameras of the day in that period of time, still are, but they were a little ahead of everybody on that tech. So interestingly they incorporated all the best goodies. Anyway. Okay, we had a beep. Yep, we have a caller. Who do we have? Just a listener. Oh, well we got down there. That's good. I'll tell you what, a lot of other things are happening, but go ahead, we've got more, jump in there, let's go right down to the shopping list. Okay, I picked up an email recently, DSG Arms is having a bit of a sale. They are offering free shipping through July, any order over $99. And this requires a promo code. The promo code is I believe that's all in caps. That's the way they print it. So that's the way I would suggest you try to use it. Free, F-R-E-E, UPS 99. That's the promo code for DSG Arms throughout July. And they are offering free UPS ground, all orders over $99 for the month of July. They are also touting a few specials of various sorts. The one that caught my eye now, magazines have come down a bit since the frenzy of, oh my gosh, BO is about to get elected. They are offering a 10-pack of DSG AR-15 magazines for $89. Now these are aluminum shell, they are tough long coated, and they have mag full followers. So I would expect these to be a reliable magazine. 30 rounds, of course. They are offering, as I said, a 10 pack of great Teflon 30 round mags with the mag pole followers. 10 pack for $89. And remember, you need to get $99 in your order if you want to take them up on their free UPS ground shipping. But that's probably not too terribly difficult to do. Questions or comments? Oh no, that's actually the, again the code is free, UPS 99? Just 99. Correct. Free UPS 99. Shipping guys is a big chunk of change. That's like it can be 8%, 10%, 6%, depending on the cost of the item, but that's not bad. So, just taking the shipping off is a big expense that's worth, that's a good savings for you. So, then it's just a matter of... Right. The actual wholesale cost of UPS for 10 magazines would not be that much, but lots and lots of outfits charge a great deal by calling it shipping and handling. And handling, yeah. Yes, so we charge a dollar each time we toss it from one hand to the other and we do that several times before we send it out the door. Yeah, I'm not going to do it. You do it. I'm not going to do it. You do it. Ah, let's let BK do it. Yeah, he'll ship anything. Go ahead, BK. Sure, toss it to me. I'll take care of it. Oops, no, we missed. Oh, it's got dents now too. That's okay. It was, it's, those are battle dents. Yeah, that's it. Well, I'll tell you what, again, go through and shop at the site too. What's the website again for everybody? That is dsg.delta-sear-a-golf-arms.com. Very good. Go right ahead. I know we've got more. Okay, next item I got in my ever busy email account. Center Fire Systems is offering a little bit of an oddball. Now, I'm not sure how you would construct a receiver for this thing. But they are advertising something that they call a July 4 special, but they're not clear on any constraints as far as calendar, etc. They are, however, offering a Swomey KP44 parts kit. This is a 9mm SMG. It is the 4 parts kit with the original barrel. They are offering that for $75. Two for $70. For $75 you can purchase a Swami KP44 9mm SMG parts kit. It doesn't include the barrel trunnion so you are going to have to figure out what is going on and obviously it was demilled to some degree in the vicinity of the magwell. So you would have to do some work if you wanted to construct one of these guys from parts. But at $75, that kind of grabbed my eye. And I'm sure that somebody out there that would be interested in that, it's a little bit more ambitious than I would even consider. But that's an interesting one. So I thought I would mention that. Very good. And next, go ahead. Alright, now this is a kind of neat one that I wanted to bring up a while ago and I didn't get a round to it. We have spoken in the past of a schematic for a 12 volt fluorescent lamp ballast. That's a device that takes 12 volts and uses a single transistor oscillator and a custom wound transformer to activate a 20 watt fluorescent tube. There are other ways to activate a 20 watt fluorescent tube. Here's one, and this falls in the category of don't throw things away. There aren't too many people, I think, who have really wondered very hard at what is in the base of those curly bulbs that everybody is pushing at us now. I can tell you what's in the base of those curly bulbs. Basically, those take 120 volts and they are very, very cheap. So what they have done in that is they have taken the 120 volts and they have run it through a rectifier bridge so that they get a rippling 140 or 160 volts. And then they use a somewhat similar technology to the 12 volt ballast we described. They use a single transistor oscillator and a very, very small inductive winding, a little toroidal winding, and they drive the tube from that circuit. This is the reason why those devices put out a certain amount of electrical hash, but it's also the reason why these things can operate, can be so cheaply, and can turn on instantly when you apply power. When one of these devices dies, and they tend to be a fairly long lifetime, do not just put them out in the trash or the special trash or whatnot. There are two failure modes. The tube can fail or the base can fail. Save them up and do mix and match to figure out which one failed the base or the tube. If the base failed, there are some very nice parts in there. In the interest of economy, They do not bother to step down the voltage and then use more conventional transistors. They use the fairly high voltage transistor in this device as the oscillator. So there's a very neat high voltage transistor in these guys. There is a ferrite winding. There are some fairly high voltage capacitors. And of course, there is a diode bridge. All of these parts can be salvaged from a failed base. If you have a unit whose tube has failed and another unit whose base has failed, you can do a little mix and match, swap it and put it back in order. Right now when you can buy these things for $3 at the store, you're not saving very much by doing that kind of surgery. What does it cost you to set things aside in a box full of dead guys for later examination when you have more time on your hands and less money or less access to new devices? You can cannibalize the dead bases for some very nice parts. And of course the tubes, if they are alive, can be plugged into a live base and the event that you have one is tube has failed. But there is another thing you can do. If you have one of these devices whose tube has failed and the base is still operational, Bear in mind that the operating principle of these devices is exactly the same as the larger tubes that we are accustomed to having in our overhead fluorescent fixtures. There is a bit of vagueness in the way they define these devices. They tend to label them as watt equivalents. So you will buy one that's marked a 60 watt equivalent. Meaning that it puts out roughly the same light as a 60 watt incandescent bulb which is intended to replace. Well, and there are some that are much larger. There are 150 watt equivalents. Of course, if it's about 20 or 30 dollars you wouldn't want to buy those. They don't make much sense economically. But, in the small sizes, the ratio between watt equivalents as marked in the actual wattage is about 4. And in the larger sizes it can go as high as 5 or 6. What that means is that if you buy a 60 watt equivalent you are probably getting a base that's rated for about 15 watts or so. If you buy one that's at a 150 watt equivalent you're probably getting one that's rated for about 30 watts through the base. So, what you are looking for if you would like to do an acute experiment is you would like to have the curly bulbs that are rated about 100 watt equivalent. That means they are good for something like 20 to 25 watts in the face. And that is the same power level as the florescent that are very commonly used in these short reflector assemblies. If you take one of these bases that's in operational mode, or operational condition, and hook it up in the conventional fashion to one connector at each end of a 20 watt fluorescent tube, guess what? It'll run it. That is of course a 120 volt, 60 hertz AC device. So that is a different solution to operating a fluorescent bulb from the 12 native device earlier. But believe it or not, you can pull one of these guys apart, salvage the base and simply hook up the wires to either end of a 20 watt fluorescent bulb and apply an Chazam. It will light. So that is another solution and it's certainly more efficient and smaller and cheaper than the traditional ballast starters and all of that stuff that we may still have in some of our fluorescent fixtures. There are, by cannibalizing one of these curly bulb bases, you have basically acquired and circuits necessary to convert an old style fluorescent fixture to which not only snaps right on just like a incandescent bulb, but is also more energy efficient than the old ballast intercom. Mostly the important thing to remember is cannibalizing the parts. There's a lot of useful things you're going to pull out of that unit. that are out of sight of the mind. You don't have to disassemble them until you need them. The only issue is whether or not you keep those little mini fluorescent tubes around or if you want to break those off below the frame and save that much space. Now the glass even can have a mission for certain projects. We won't talk about that right now. The contents of the glass nowadays is only about 5 milligrams of mercury. So nowadays there's not much mercury to be salvaged. But it still would be useful, and again, it's accumulation. Time waits for no one, and goodies are being used up. An interesting thing, too, about these lights is when they first came out, they were at a very high standard with only a limited number of companies producing them. And they were expensive as all get out, too. They're 20 bucks a pop back when a dollar was something. Yep, and guaranteed for about five to seven thousand hours with the additional models, which meant they lasted for years. They actually would go way beyond that. We did surveys on these lights and used them in high traffic, constant activity areas, and very satisfied with them. Now, one out of 20 out of the box would actually be dysfunctional because they were mostly from the eastern block. And in fact, apparently they used all these in the detention camps. Oh, and the public housing, same difference. So the other thing about the bleeding frequencies is the question about whether or not that's doing harm. Certainly it does make some background noise. And we don't want to use these for emergency lighting or for security lighting in any of our concealed locations because the donut of destruction... Yeah, the donut of destruction has been using the frequency that they emit to track down locations. So, old light bulbs. Right, if you're above ground, I wouldn't have any problem with using them below ground. I don't think that leakage would escape if you're using them in a below ground context. Well, apparently that's what they're saying is they have used it, so we need to pay attention to that. And again, the other thing to remember is there are other light sources that can be used too, and used more plentifully, of Christmas lights. Guys are everywhere. People are throwing them out. We got miles of Christmas lighting. That's God knows how many thousands of light bulbs. You don't need a lot of light to see, it's just like at night. You don't need a whole lot of light to see, just enough to basically illuminate your eyes adapt to the hours of darkness, your element purple takes over. Anyway, these are good ideas. Besides, there's a difference between not falling over objects and being able to read the newspaper. That's right. All we need to do is just make sure... There's a mission in mind. Yeah, we just want to avoid running into things and losing body parts. but spare parts and other goodies that you can pull off the equipment. That's another thing. We have to constantly be looking for locations for equipment, especially for electronic hardware when the time comes. Everything from old analog televisions to radios to you name it and gee, even the lighting systems. All of this can provide us with tools that we can use down the road. We are Right about the top of the hour almost and any last thing before we go go ahead BK. I have nothing left that will fit. Ah well in that case and just a reminder to guys this weekend is going to be busy. People are thinking about barbecues, they're thinking about beer, they're thinking about their belly buttons but they're not thinking about what's in front of them on the road. Doesn't mean they're drunk, it just means they're distracted. So you're going to be flying slash driving offensively and avoiding the bad guys. That means moving out of harm's way. Remember also when you come upon an intersection, do not pull right up on the guy's bumper. You want to be able to see the guy in front of you's tires. If you can see his tires, remember you jam left right with the steering wheel, step on the gas, went off the brake, step off the gas and you're out of the way. You don't want to be part of a collision, you don't want to be part of somebody else's collision. And you don't want to be a student driver who doesn't know how to shift a manual. So those guys could roll backwards into your grill with no other stimulus. So that's another reason to give them some space. That's right. It's summer. You never know who's going to be behind the wheel. So we are at the top. BK, thank you very much, sir. You're welcome. We are the Intel Report, but we're signing off. Dutch is taking over for us.
