Well, we'll try to do whatever we can to help out with that. get the mission accomplished but uh... it's an interesting day today to admit it's tuesday communications tuesday now i think it's something we've won a really touch on again you know we give a listing of different ways of where we broadcast one of them is cb base stations mister people go how do you do that well with the proper system or with any uh... tube system or even with a uh... solid-state system cb build-up heat that's something most people have argued while you know they get warm Well, the trick there, guys, is to leech off the heat. So there are two things you do. If you want to run a CB that was meant for a short broadcast and is designed to be, you know, convenient by making it lighter, eliminating some of the heat sinks, you have to go back to putting some of the heat sinks back in. And one of the tricks there is to put a ventilator, a radiating system, there's a number of different types, on the chassis of the equipment to begin with while still allowing for air circulation. And now we have the miracle of the dollar store type computer fans. They're very cheap, made out of plastic, run off 12 volt or 110 depending on what you buy. In the day, these things used to be outrageous. If you wanted a nice computer fan, of course they were mega death fans. They were 110s. You had to spend $40, $50. But today, guys, you're looking at $2, $3, $4, $5 a piece, so there's no excuse not to be able to afford them. Well, what you do with the CV, here we have a collar, so give me just a second, I'll finish this up. With the fans underneath, you actually draw air through, pull air through the system, and then run it also through the cooling fins slash radiators that you create. Now, there's a number of cheap tricks, let me give you one that's real simple. Any of you out there into heating and cooling, you do baseboard and radiators. You ever see these? They're copper pipe and they've got the little fins on them, Don. Well, that's a cheap way. See, Mark's always looking for cheap solutions. People are going, I can't afford the anodized aluminum raised surfaces with multi-fins and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Okay, well then go the cheap. What you do is you get a bunch of these radiator-fin cut-off pieces, because guys, they always come in different lengths. And when they want to do the kickboard, they cut them to a certain length, and then they cap them off and re-solder and everything, or they run the line the rest of the way. Either way, however it's done, whatever they do, there's pieces left over. And if you ask a guy who's into heating and cooling, he can pick out pieces or he can find scrapped out pieces that have these cooling fins on them already. What you do is you take Mr. Drill, this is a trick I learned a long time ago, and you drill the copper pipe in several places, all between the fins. You're not going to be holding any water, and you're not worried about him holding a whole lot of structural weight, guys. I mean, come on, it's copper and aluminum that's going to be sitting there just sucking air. Now, one way to mount them is where you take the pipe and run it perpendicular. Actually, what you do is screw them together, get four, five, or six, depending on the size of your machine, and you actually just sheet-mount them fins together so you create an array of tubes that can be four inches, five inches, or six inches long. All the little cooling fins on them. What you do is lay those on top of your rig. Now, you might want to make a little frame for that. You figure that out. It's not Mark's job. I don't know what kind of radio you're working on. I'm giving you the basic idea. Now, you run your fans either right through the top of that sucking or pulling the air through, or you push the air through the base of the machines through the cooling port underneath with a standoff, and then the air moves through and runs through the vent. The copper pipe with the fins works as the heat sink as it normally would, and draws the calories off the system by making contact with the machine itself and by, of course, with the air that's passing, it's cooling and ventilating in the process. So this is a simple solution, sounds crude, it is. Cheap, it is. And done with garbage and throwaway stuff. For those of you who say you don't have much money because we're in a depression, that's why I came up with it, okay? So it works rather well, and we've done this, we've had to especially work with older base station CBs that run a tad hot, because some of them do. They're very powerful, and overpowered in some cases, people claim, but they can be cooled down. What it means though, is you have to make the effort to put the together to do it. You come up with a base, you come up with your solution, that's fine. But hopefully we gave you an idea. Now Don, we have a caller. Who do we have? We have all kinds of wonderful technology but because none of it's being maintained, one part can't talk to the other and one part isn't working with the other. whoever the caller was what you do is call back in the volume down on the system you're listening to in the background see if it'll connect a second time try not to use a cell phone and try not to use a lot of times for whatever reason uh... and i don't ask me because it varies from the system it can also be if you're using a wireless phone if you're using a portable sync problem so that would be another issue anyway uh... quick point here is that if you're using your duty for the about doing a cb station Remember that solid state heats up a little bit too depending on what the radio is, but guys you can use CB4 rebroadcasting, a lot of the guys do it. The big thing is pulling the calories off the machine as it's running. That's where you have to come up with different, I mean, well, you know, unlike say 20 years ago we had to improvise more because heat sinks were even more expensive. Nowadays there's all kinds of aluminum heat sinks out there that are built in every design you can imagine because people have sound systems that are designed to blow their brains out of the car with a super base. Those if you look, you've got these incredible cooling fin and aluminum arrays now that can be applied to your other radio systems. And this is stuff that we used to know all about years ago, but because people have gotten away from portable transmitters in the conventional range and have gone to their little star radio transmitters you call cell phones, they're not familiar with the idea of more output and more energy. You apply more energy, you get more calories that build up. And so heat is always an issue. So you need to be looking at ways to dump the heat. Now in some cases that can be a positive thing. Well speaking of the heat Mark, let's see if we can bring our collar up. Let's turn the heat up on the collar. Because I think I heard those bells again. Now let's take another swing at what we have on the line. The whole point is that we've got CB broadcasters out there that have already been doing this for about oh, 9 on 15 years, some longer. broadcasting this program you're listening to us maybe on channel 27, channel 29. Many cases they try to keep them down into the below 23 for obvious reasons for the older radios and there are a lot of people still using older bases which are very reliable to listen with. See, interlocking communications with failures with test like that in the system is something you never used to hear but because as an ran said when the socialist takeover of the just go to hell in a hand cart then uh... the whole system mocks up eventually shut down we have to be ready for that guys uh... if you don't have a cb radio don't have a cb grid up you're in trouble uh... we have the equipment not only on standby but we have multiples on standby We can go from CB to Marine Channel and you are both at the same time with different radios. Now Marine is another solution. If you're wondering, yep, you can even go to Cabela's and buy Marine radios, guys. So just like CB, they've got better range, greater clarity. So if you're worried, well, CB is kind of scrackly or whatever. Hey, Marine Channel. And you know what? If you're off in the middle of Iowa or in the middle of, say, Montana, I hear you. You probably won't get much marine in those areas. I don't think there are a whole lot of people out in those frequencies. You know what I mean? So this is a very clean option for a lot of you looking for alternate radios. And by the way, marine channel radios are as easy to hook up as CBs. They're made in the same boxes, same kits, same sizes, antenna arrays are the same. The mono antenna, the way it's set up. And all you do is click and play, hook it up, and away you go. So marine is another option. And it's something where if you're in the mountains, you're not going to find many people using marine frequencies. So the cool thing is you have the option for yet another communications grid. Don't figure that your cell phones are going to work. And by the way, if the cell tower system is shunted, what good would your cell phones be? None. Yeah, I mean, well, other than the sonar pinging to track you. Yeah. And when that happens, if the systems go offline, grab yourself a piece of duct tape, make sure the battery's charged up. Walk out to the train yard and duct tape your telephone to the upper part of one of the cars or up underneath on the bottom of the undercarriage. Then walk away. There we go. Let them chase your sonar ping all the way to BFE because that's exhibit. Of course it will be kind of fun if everybody is listening. When you go to put your cell phone up underneath the car you find 55 others there. Hey, someone had the same idea I did. Wow. But the point is that otherwise there are many other solutions. Two meter radio, ham frequencies, and there are many types of ham transmitters out there that work full range and are an option. And I would recommend that again you take the time to investigate and do a little work. We have the Liberty Net on Saturday night. You don't have to shut off your other work. You can listen to the micro effect and you can still listen to your shortwave radio. and tune in the Liberty Net which is up from ten o'clock on Saturday night until the wee hours of the morning. It's a test of the entire shortwave communication system that the Patriots have been running for many, many years and we'll keep you abreast of that, let you know what's going on with the frequencies here before the end of the week. But the point is that I'll be talking to one of the men who helps to run the Liberty Net. But consistently guys, we've seen greater and greater increase in participation. This is very critical. We need more shortwave transmitters up and online. It's not that we don't have the technology. You've got a ham fest all over the place. We've only got about, oh, well, let's see, two weekends out we have the Dayton O'Hara ham fest coming up. Now that's the place to be. That is the big event. If you're going to try to find radio gear, if you want to find cheap batteries, a lot of you are worried about batteries just for listening to what we're doing right now. If you're listening in one form or another, on one of the micro stations and you've got a radio and you want to keep it running needless to say solar panels backup batteries extra gel pack batteries emergency lighting everything you can think of electronic shows up at the Dayton O'Hara hamfest it is the ultimate hamfest bizarre if you want cutting-edge state-of-the-art micro dot so small you can't see it it's there If you want dinosaur tube technology that you know is going to blow through everything or can be used for jamming when the time comes and it's expendable, there's the place to go. Because the cool thing is, guys, you can set up transmitters to transmit or you can set up transmitters to draw the enemy's attention and pull them away from everything else. Are dirty, multi-s, wide band equipment that is not very reliable for fixing on its frequency? We set those up with their own little throwaway power source with a whole bunch of other junk and debris and they're designed to be put out away from everybody and let the bad guys look at something that means nothing when the time comes. You run them until they go off the air. They can be run with a repeat with any number of different loop transmitting systems and in fact nowadays with MP3 or a throwaway CD You could be running a whole lot of noise indefinitely until it goes offline because they decide to drop something on it, but who cares? Well, that's where I wanted to go, Mark, because if you go to the hand fest and you pick something up and you walk away and you've got a transmitter that can irritate and frustrate them for about seven or twenty dollars and they send in a half million dollar smart bomb to kill it. That's a fair trade in my book. That's right. That's the whole idea. Meanwhile, your better equipment, running more efficiently, does the job in another way.
