So when you're looking for spare connectors, frames, tubes, bulbs, whatever you need for that system, This is where you get a chance to go check it out. Remember, if you've got an old tube set, you can find out. Usually there's somebody there or people who have grabbed boxes of tubes. You can even test them there around the site just to find out what their lifespan is, how they're performing. And a lot of little tricks that you can be performed on the site just to, you know, ID what the condition of the equipment is if it isn't brand new in the box. A lot of times it is. So this is a good chance and again, take the time to be there early or again, take time to be there early, go out and eat for a bit, come back before they close. And remember, as they're closing, a lot of guys just leave boxes right on the table and they'll just put a free sign out of, hey, take this home with you. So you rummage through the boxes, you look at what you got. Now, I'll give you an example is from the Dayton Hamfest, we literally came back with a truckload of transmitters. We have one unit that has Well, I gave them 56 GE3-band fixed crystal radio sets. Okay, handhelds. Price was fantastic. It was free. They included the test sets. So another thing that sometimes shows up at the Cortland Handfest, which you don't see a lot of others, sometimes somebody brings in military gear, you know, backpacks and web gear and antiques and things like that. A progressive heart failure and there also can be genetic occurs in breed and others. But in most instances some other major crisis must be overcome if the dogs... Now some of the signs have a reduced ability to excise, have white or blue gums, blood refill and the gums when they're squeezed, and does it have an erratic or a pulse? Well then chances are it's a hard disease. I'll put down that list. The predisposing, it would be if it's a large or a giant breed, and is it shorter? We can abbreviate that SOB. Does it have a reduced ability to excise? Does it have white or blue gums? Blood refill in the gums when they're squeezed? Or a pulse? There's a good possibility that it's starting to suffer from heart disease. That's on that. If the dog is a smaller breed, and is it coughing? Does it have an enlarged abdomen? Viated SOB? A reduced ability to exercise? Have an exaggerated heartbeat? When the chest is felt, has an increased heart again? Coughing? Abdomen? Reduced ability to exercise? An exaggerated heartbeat? When the chest is felt? Increased heart rate? Chances are it has a heart disease. You need to consult that. Maybe even take it in within the next 20 years. If the dog is collapsed, white gum, so weak or no heartbeat, that is heart failure CPR. The treatment, what you want to do is the heart beat or the pulse, squeeze the gums to see if there's the area and if it does, the heart's pumping, you want to give it an artificial if necessary and evacuate. Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen, you're listening to the last segments of the second hour of the intelligence report. Today's date is the 10th of June 2008. It's a Tuesday. All right, we're going to make a quick review here of shock. And now the signs and symptoms of shock are pale or white dumbs, rapid heart rate over 150 beats per minute, and fast breathing usually over 30 breaths per minute. There's 150 or greater. and 30 breasts and whatever the emergency is, always be on the lookout for your signs and symptoms of shock. And now by checking the dog's heart rate, breathing rate and gums, and you're checking whether the dog is in shock, and shock can be caused by a lot of different things, bleeding, vomiting, diarrhea, electrocution, trauma, a twisted stomach, insect and animal bites, diabetes, poisons, and a lot of other injuries. I'll run down that list again. It can be caused by bleeding, vomiting, trauma, a twisted stomach, insect and animal bites, diabetes, and poisons. And also, illnesses and accidents can bring these things on. Now, treating shocks is going to take precedence over all other injuries, including fractures, broken bones and untreated shock is going to lead to a loss of consciousness and death. Now just to fill this out a little bit, the early signs of shock are the normal breathing, the normal of a resting heart rate, tight pink gums, sleeplessness or anxiety, or weakness and usually more than two seconds and a normal or just subnormal say again, early signs of shock are through the normal breathing, heart rate, or light pink gums, twistness or anxiety, or weakness, usually greater than two seconds, and a normal or just subnormal rectal temperature. Now as the shock advances and if it's not treated, then you're going to get slow heartbeat, response, extreme weakness or unconsciousness, slow capillary re-reader than four seconds. and a cool body temperature less than 98 degrees Fahrenheit. The signs and symptoms of irregular heartbeat, response, extreme weakness or unconsciousness greater than four seconds of 98 degrees Fahrenheit. The treatment to slow down the potential by doing the following. You want to place the dog on its side with its head extended to hindquarters using a pillow, stop any obvious bleeding. applying pressure within a good absorbent pad, but don't use the towels because they'll absorb the blood and it'll make it look like you're not, it's not bleeding very much. You want to apply a tourniquet if necessary. You want to give artificial rations or heart massage if necessary. And you want to prevent the water, the body heat by wrapping the dog in a warm blanket. And you want to evacuate them right away, especially if it's in deep shock. And if it is in deep shock, you want to keep it cradled with its limbs elevated above its heart. Go again one of those treatments. Dog on its side with its head extended. Behind quarters using pillows. Stop any obvious bleeding by applying pressure and apply a tourniquet if necessary. Apparations or heart massage if necessary. Loss of body heat by wrapping the dog in a warm blanket. and evacuate them. And if they're in deep shock, you want to keep them cradled with their limbs elevated above their heart. Don't give them anything to eat or drink, and don't let a conscious dog wonder about. Okay, now it's kind of a review. I was looking over here and maybe some of the subjects that we have, and we've covered quite a bit. As I recall, we started on first aid for dogs on the 31st of 2008. And so just a kind of a quick review of what we've covered. and some of the things that you missed some of them that you might want to go back and go to WTPR and the archives and access those. We started off on part one of the essentials of first aid. What is first aid? What to do? The basics of securing the breathing, taking the pulse, monitoring the heart, examining the thumbs, when to give artificial respirations and heart massage, how to give cardio foam to clean the wounds, how to apply bandages, how to make a splint, how to make them an Elizabethan collar, deciding if and when your dog needs a vet detention, for examination, head to tail examination, take a dog's temper, sounds and activities, breathe, examining the eyes, ears and mouth, examining the head and neck, examining the chest abdomen and the limbs, examining the tail, and the genitalia, skin and coat changes, foot habits, changes in drinking and urinating, weight changes, under emergencies, aggressive aggression and behavior changes, birth, and stings, bleeding, bull problems, burn, carbon monoxide, patient convulsions and seizures, coughing, diabetic emergencies, diarrhea, drowning, ear injuries, electric shock, eye injuries, spites. In there we also talk quite a bit about poison with skin contact, inhaled poisonings, poisonings and everything. So we balance lateness, nose and mouth injuries. And then we're going to talk about preventive medicine. So if there's, we've quite a bit of things on this program and starting the 31st of January, a lot of people have asked about it. So we've covered it. You asked for it, you got it. You should make sure that you can make copies of that, pass it on to other people and then you can refer back. So, just real quick here, for those people who are wondering, well you guys cover first aid for dogs. Our dogs are working animals. They are actually an extension, an organic sensory system that you have deployed. Now most of you have used them. We use them both in tracking. We use them for operational, physical security. Needless to say, in many cases, they're also family, obviously, members of the family for many people, which is why a lot of people have been listening in and taking notes here because they want to be able to take care of their animals where there is no veterinarian. Just as we know, there may be no veterinarian or no dentist, or there is no doctor. You're going to have to be the person dealing with this. Each one of the dogs, especially the medium and smaller ones, are big ones. One here at my feet is 200 pounds, by the way, 200 plus pounds when he first got him. He's exercised much healthier now, but the point is that all of our dogs are set up with kits and packs to carry supplies, ammunition, food, the whole nine yards. So in other words, they're mini pack animals and top everything else, or they can at least support themselves in the field, so to speak. Just like you carry a backpack, they carry their gear with them too. Take a look at the videos, pay attention to what's going on, pay attention to the depth of the images because there's much going on in the videos that a lot of people have glossed over.
