I had a dream the other night that, well, I didn't understand. A figure walked in through the mist with a flintlock in his hand. His clothes were torn and dirty as he stood there by my bed. He took off his three-cornered hat, and speaking low to me, he said, we've fought a revolution to secure our liberty. We wrote the Constitution as a shield from tyranny. For future generations, this legacy we gave. In this, the land is free. and home of the brave. The freedoms we secured for you we hoped you'd always keep. But tyrants labored endlessly while your parents were asleep. Your freedom's gone, your courage lost, you're no more than a slave. Invist the land of the free and home of the brave. You buy permits to travel and permits to own a gun. Permits to start a business or to build a place for one. On land that you believe you own, you pay a yearly rent. Although you have no voice in saying how the money's spent, your children must attend a school that doesn't educate, and your Christian values can't be taught according to the state. You read about the current news in a regulated press, and you pay a tax you do not owe to please the IRS. Your money is no longer made of silver nor of gold. You trade your wealth for paper so your life can be controlled. You pay for crimes that make our nation turn from God and shame. You've taken Satan's number. You've traded in your name. If he stood by your bedside in a dream while you were asleep and wondered what remains of the freedoms he'd fought to keep, what would be your answer if he called out from the grave, dill the land of the free? You know, it's obvious that they got over here and they thought, oh, you know, we're over here in the Iowa desert. It's just going to be hotter than the land so they didn't think they had. and then pretty soon they got caught in one of these freeracke army and as they made their way up the length and pretty soon it was flea. They didn't have any cold weather gear with them at all. Your hands or something if you stop, flush your hands and contaminated stress stream water and it also can be transmitted conjunctiva through your eyes and other mucous membranes, your nose, your rectum, things like that. especially if you go bathing in contaminated water. The patient period is anywhere between 20 days. Recap that, it's a leptospirosis, L-E-P-T-O-S-P-I-R-O-S-I-S. It's an acute, often severe infection caused by species worldwide, and it is transmitted by the ingestion of food or drink contaminated by rodents, cattle, and dogs. And it can also contact through minor skin lesions, cuts in your hands, and it also can come in through the conjunctiva leaving in contaminated water. The incubation period is between two and 20 days. If anybody has read the book by Charlie Beckwith, the founder of Delta, the name of the book is he acquired Leptos when he was operating with the SAS and Malaya. And everybody told him against it, but he found there was a stream there and there was a little wide part in it where it wasn't flowing and they'd been hiking and everything and pulling up and down hills and everything and he figured he could just jump in there and wash up in the stream and everybody told him not to, but he insisted on it and almost died from it. Okay, so the ever in your soap format. Findings, there's going to be a sudden onset of fever, usually between 102 and 104 degrees. You're going to have chills, abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting. We can abbreviate that, N and V, myalgia. And that's especially in the calf muscles. There's going to be unrelenting frontal headache. We can abbreviate headache, HA. Opalbia, that means you're going to be a bright light and the lights are going to really, really bother you. There's going to be a sore throat and diarrhea are very common. Catenal and maculopashes also are going to occur. You like little pimply type of rashes. Then symptoms disappear within three to four days. And but some patients, they may be ill for weeks. And in some cases, the symptoms will disappear for one to three days, then the fever and the initial symptoms are going to return. And that's the nature of the disease. You'll get it, you'll think you just got some bad food or something, and then you'll feel fine. And then when you start thinking a bit better, then you'll have a relapse. Go in stages like this, you'll just get genterer and weaker. Your object findings are not that would be the... You're going to have the conjunctiva is marked in the liver. It'll be able to palpate that in about 50% of the cases. On this, the yellowing of the skin is presentary hemorrhages and human-ingial irritation. Findings of meningitis. Lab findings. Your white blood cell count, that's your WBC, may be normal or they may be as high as 50,000. The urine may contain bile protein in red cells and the spirochete may be found in the urine from the 10th day to the 6th week. And it can also be found in the blood smears if you do a blood culture. And it's a different, it's not informing bacteria or anything. And if you look at it underneath a microscope, it would be kind of a jagged line kind of like inverted V's or up and down type of lab, excuse me, then on our soap format next to A, your appearance, your diagnosis is going to be leftosclerosis, so mimic the hepatitis and your plan, your treatment is going to be giving 100,000 units of pro-can penicillin, IM, you six dollars, 24 hours, Say that again, that's 600,000 units cocaine, penicillin, intramuscular, and that's every three hours 24 hours, and then you're going to give it every six hours times the treatment of the cirrhosis. And I see it's raining again outside. The wind was starting to break up here. And there was the sun had come out a little while ago, but now it's clouded up and it's just raining like there ain't no tomorrow out here. So, but anyway, that's, uh, let those sclerosis. So yeah, if you want to find out about what happens when there's somebody gets left those process, get up, go ahead and get ahold of the book, like Charlie Beckwith and, uh, find out how you can almost die by thinking that you're just going to clean up a little bit. And again, this goes back to the beginning of our one, we first started back in October, where we started off with patient, you know, the body is. when you start contaminated water, drinking contaminated water, it can really change your reaction and then you've become a casualty and then it's going to take one person to replace you, two to evacuate you and ten more people to treat you. Make sure of what you're drinking, what you're eating, keep your body strong, keep those vitamins and everything up and your body's drinking. It'll help you resist this stuff, but really be real resistant about this cleanliness stuff that somehow you can get lapsed into this feeling of where you've got to take a bath because you can sing. And he was talking how, yes, in recent times here, we have even had to respond to piracy on the Great Lakes. The piracy of luxury liners, luxury cruisers and such on the Great Lakes being taken. Aha! Yeah, when they're swinging across the yard arm, don't you know, lads? Right here in the Great Lake of Huron. Aye, the bloody pirates were there from Canada. Or from wherever they were from. But anyway. You picture, you know, immediately you say pirate people, people are picturing, you know, the eye patches and you've got to have the hook or you're not one of the pirates, don't you know? Well, in this case, I think they're a little more sophisticated than that. And needless to say, there might be some other business transactions going on that created part of that problem because you never know what was in the boat. This is the Great Lakes and there he is there, going back to the Rum Runner days. Okay, how many people remember that, you know, during Prohibition? For all the boats are above water and this is kind of cool because you know they always do the romantic part showing you the high-speed boats and for those you haven't seen that there were holds smuggling rings were set up that way and while everybody was chasing the boats around Mike Back in the was it 19. I think it was 1991 and before that last time before that was in 1984 85 They were doing some construction on the Detroit Riverfront and they came across these strange pipelines. Now these were very well engineered pipelines and they came up out of the river and they thought, oh maybe it's Edison. No, it's not electrical. Well maybe it's something to do with oil or like maybe a barge or something, maybe at a barge dump point. No, no. And they checked to see what was in the pipes and guess what was in those large three and four inch and six inch pipes? Almost as good. Some of the finest rum that pirates drink. Yo, hello. So just little things about the Great Lakes, because they're a Canadian frontier. and you know the fact we have another country across the way from us my favorite is that with the rumba is one of the cutest ones with the cabin cruisers and work completely uh... belly down the inside absolutely nothing we have the windows to get all of the uh... uh... trappings on the outside look like very nice uh... you know chris craft you know uh... tridecors double-deckers but on the inside and i'm not exaggerating because i've been in a couple of these have been sitting docked you know i've been dry docked for god knows how many years they echoed on the inside mike they were that big and they weren't fishing boats you know they were they weren't carrying fishing nets they were designed to roll nice big barrels of stuff onto the boat over on the Canadian side and then they would be travelling across the short way and then docking somewhere and rolling those pine kegs of whiskey and rum to the places in the old warehouse district in the northern part of Detroit where they would be imbibed by many people. Don't you know? That was by the Bronx, wasn't it? Yeah, of course you weren't really Irish, maybe the Jewish Irish. Why is Steven Bergman something or others? And O'Malley, O'Malleybergs, the O'Malleybergs, and the O'Malleysteems. Yeah, the Mackelmallybergs. It is fascinating because the more you know about it, if you know the history of Detroit guys, you know, yeah, we had the gangsters here just like they had the gangsters in Chicago. And most of the gangsters there were Jewish just like most of the gangsters here were too. Have you ever looked up the Purple Gang, figured out who they were real quick, okay? Or Moyda Incorporated, there's another one. Anyway, we just want to bring it up because it was a new thing, a unique thing, piracy on the Great Lakes of Michigan. And we'll let you know more as we get a little more on that report. We'll follow up on that one. Anyway, I'll tell you what, we're going to follow up with a little bit of veterinary care here because we do worry about our four-footed friends. I got a 200-pound one here. He's doing a fine job. In fact, he just came back. My youngest boy gave him a nice long walk into town. He's part of the patrol and part of the security operations for the property. And we want to make sure that they're safe and secure. We want to make sure they're healthy too because they are eyes and ears that we don't have. Maybe not necessarily the eyes with all dogs, but you gotta admit guys and gals, that old sniffer and those old ears work a hell of a lot better than the average human being does. So they're very handy as security measures to identify a threat. And again, you can't stay up 24 hours a day, but those little dog ears, hey, they're pretty active almost all the time once they've got territory to protect. So we wanna make sure they stay healthy. So Mike, a score ahead, please. Okay, very good. Yesterday we were covering electric shock, but instead of trying to jump into the middle of it, we'll just go right back to the very beginning. So we're covering first aid for dogs and electrical. Electric shock, it can cause cardiac arrest and it also earns the effect of the body. You know, although chewing on the electric cords is most common cause of electrocution, lines, lightning, and they can also cause fatal accidents. The instances are uncommon. Male dogs can receive a serious electric shock if they urinate on exposed requires or unprotected outlets. So some of the things that you want to watch for and ask some of the questions to narrow this down, if the dog has been exposed and is the dog convulsing, is it unconscious, has it collapsed, is there no heartbeat, and has it emptied its bladder and bowels? And if any of those things, especially if it's not breathing and no heartbeat, you need to initiate CPR and you need to evacuate it to the vet right away. The next, if none of those have happened, but if you notice that there's a, where the burn is, if it's a pale center surrounded by redness, especially in the mouth, it's definitely on puppies, breathing slow. you want to treat the burn and then see the vet the same day. Just as a review, your signs and symptoms of shock, you're going to have pain, gums, rapid breathing, weak and rapid rapid pulse or both, cold extremities and general weakness. Now, initially for your shock, you can have a weak and rapid pulse in the initial signs of shock. But then later on, then the pulse would weaken slow and initially, but the nails start dropping off too. The treatment here is, remember always as a safety warning, don't put your life at risk. Now if the dog is rigid, it may be fatal if you touch it. So avoid touching any fluids in contact with the dog. Turn off the electricity at its source. And if this is not possible, using a non-metal broom handle to move the dog well away from the exposed electric person. you want to do is check whe is beating and if it's brea to initiate CPR. The ne to evaluate or is there o you want to do treat that with a cold compress to damage. And even if your d should consult with your v want to monitor both the for the next 12-dock and overwhelming fluids up in the lungs for many hours after an apparently uncomplicated recovery from electrocution. To reduce the risk of electrocution, apply a bitter-tasting spray to deter from chewing on them. Never let a teething puppy in a room with live electric cord. Examine your home environment carefully, repositioning any electric cords that may be played with by a puppy or a bored dog, and turn off electric sockets when not in use to protect them with some socket covers. Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen your list of the second hour of the intelligence report. My name is Michael Neser and Mark Cornke is here today 23rd of May 2008. Eye injuries you were listening to Poker Face for our bumper music there and I would encourage everybody to help support them because they help support our program. been covering a lot of this first aid thing since the 18th of October of 2007. If you've missed any of these lessons, like we've explained, we're going to continue to build on these programs. We cover a subject and you're not familiar with it. Maybe you've missed one of our programs. We can sit here and we can go back over again and we've never gone it at all. Foundation and now we're starting to go to wtprn.com. go to the archives, scroll down to the intelligence report, making some copies for you, for your library, listen to on the way back and forth, make sure you let them know where they can get this engine from, encourage them to help so they're on this program. Eye injuries now. Some of the questions that you may ask is, is the eye out of the socket? Is there the eyeball damage? Is there a blood or a foreign body in the eye causing blinking, squinting? See the vet right away. next set of questions closed, is this changing the ability to see or are the pupils irregular? You want to see the vet likely within the next 12 hours. Is the surface of the eye cloudy or gray? Is the eye intensely bloodshot or does one or both eyes look larger than normal? Again, you want to consider seeing your vet for some advice and give them a heads up that you're bringing the dog in. The next question is, is there a green or yellow discharge from out of the eye or around the eye lid? Or is the dog a puppy whose eyes have not opened yet? And then you might want to consider seeing a vet within 24 hours. Excuse me. Next question is, is there a clear color charge or is there an associated sneezing or face rubbing? Most likely it could be contact poison or something like that. You should be able to treat that at home. Now all eye injuries are potentially dangerous. A minor scratch to the surface of the eye if left untreated become infective vision. So don't take any chances with the dog's sight. Whenever the eye is injured, arrange for an area examination. Eye is out of the socket. Don't attempt to push it back in. Cover it with a clean, damp or a sponge, we bandage it to the head. The time permits, soak the cloth or a sponge in some salty water, warm water, or a super saturated solution of sugar, and this will help preserve. It'll help keep the dog as quiet as possible, and then you want to get some veterinary help right away in the minutes, and watch again for your signs and symptoms of shock. Now, if the dog is blinking, squinting, and avoiding light, Lift the upper lid by retracting it with your hand and retract the breeze. You're going to have your thumb underneath like muzzle and then your other hand on top, kind of like you're petting the dog on the head. So you want to hold the one thumb on the upper eyelid. So going to help control the... There's a non-penetrating foreign body. You can remove it by flushing the eye with some And then alternately you can use a cotton swab moistened with some water to ease the irritant out of the eye. And now if you can't remove the irritant, cover the eye with a bandage to prevent any further injury and get some immediate veterinary health. And now if there's a penetrating foreign body, don't attempt to remove it. Bandage the eye and you might also want to put on a Elizabethan collar. and your dog and then get immediate veterinary help. The eye is red and they're squinting in the tear production but no foreign body. Now you might want to look to see if the eye has been scratched and you want to just cover it with a clean damp cloth and to help prevent the self-diameter by damaging the eye and apply an Elizabethan cholera and also you want to banish the dew claw because the dog will want to get up there and to find out and it could some damage to the eye with the duke so you might want to consider managing those too. Okay, now if it's a chemical burn you want to wash the chemicals with lots of fresh water for at least 10 minutes so you might want to consider depending on what type of chemical is to make sure that you have gloves on so the chemicals don't get on your hand and then then you become infected too. You want to re-feed if you're going to take it into the vet, then they're going to want to know so that they can call. They'll know exactly what the antidotes are. With the eyes of pre-damaged, you see your vet is torn, gruel and eyelids from a trauma. Reduce the swelling, cover and damage the affected lid, remove the damage after 12 hours, see your vet within the next 20. And you want to again use that Elizabethan cough bandage up to do damage. Now, if there's a green or a yellow discharge, there's good possibility that it's an infection. Clean the eyes with a... use a tea, like drinking tea, and then watch for any other signs of illness and then give your vet a call and see what they say. There's a watery discharge, you're going to check for your foreign body. You want to flush the eye with pepid water or an eye wash or again, our... and then again, phone... for some advice on how to treat any underlying cause. Actually, they can also do any of those things. We're going to switch gears here. The next one would be a fish hook. Well, obviously, the fish nose or frog. Fortunately, dogs can get the hook bedded in their lips and in their paws. Now, if the hook's embedded in the tongue or the roof of the mouth, are there multiple hooks embedded? Or is the dog too frightened or dangerous to hand? If it's a single hook embedded in the lip or the body, going to go ahead and give first. What you want to do is restrain and muzzle the dog with the lip area in some wire cutters. Then that's going to help do. And then you want to then just treat it as an open wound. Even when you try to retract the hook after you cut it, then go ahead and console it. Now, if the barb's not visible, use some pliers to push the hook through the skin to expose the barb. And then go ahead and cut the barb off and then retract the hook. You want to clean the wound for a 3% hydrogen peroxide and telephone your vet for some further advice. And never pull on any fishing line hanging from the dog's mouth because it can definitely cause some severe damage. I hear the music coming in. I guess we're at the end of the program, the end of the week, amar. That's right, ladies and gentlemen. Again, pay attention. You're going to be out there for vacation. The critters are out there with you. You have fish line in the wrong place. Don't start tuggin' at it and play tug-of-war with a dog. You might get body parts you don't want to see, okay? Keep that in mind. I've been in a lake for a long time. Dogs get into everything. We know that. So pay attention. We'll see you on Tuesday, Mike. Thank you for being here.
