Summary
Mark Koernke hosted a Weapons Wednesday episode featuring Jim from Gun Parts Guy, discussing FN FAL rifle parts, kits, and maintenance. The conversation covered British and Belgian restrictions on L1A1 rifle exports to the US, historical anecdotes about Australian gun confiscation during World War II and the defense of Brisbane, barrel lifespan and refinishing options for FAL rifles, and a caller question about sidearm selection for a combat medic role. Jim provided detailed technical information on FAL components, sourcing parts, and recommended revolver options like the .357 Magnum or .38 Special over larger calibers for field use.

I had a dream the other night that, well, I didn't understand. A figure walked in through the mist with a flintlock in his hand. His clothes were torn and dirty as he stood there by my bed. He took off his three-cornered hat, and speaking low to me, he said, we've fought a revolution to secure our liberty. We wrote the Constitution as a shield from tyranny. For future generations, this legacy we gave. In this, the land of the free.
and home of the brave. The freedoms we secured for you we hoped you'd always keep. The tyrants labored endlessly while your parents were asleep. Your freedom's gone, your courage lost, you're no more than a slave. In this the land of the free and home of the brave. You buy permits to travel and permits to own a gun. Permits to start a business or to build a place for one. On land that you believe you own, you pay a yearly rent.
Although you have no voice in saying how the money's spent, your children must attend a school that doesn't educate, and your Christian values can't be taught according to the state. You read about the current news in a regulated press, and you pay a tax you do not owe to please the IRS. Your money is no longer made of silver nor of gold. You trade your wealth for paper so your life can be controlled.
You pay for crimes that make our nation turn from God and shame. You've taken Satan's number. You've traded in your name. You've given government control to those who do you harm so they could burn down churches and seize the family farm and keep our country deep in debt. Put men of God in jail. Harash your fellow countrymen while corrupted courts prevail. Your public servants don't uphold the solemn oaths they've sworn.
and your daughters visit doctors so their children won't be born. Your leaders send artillery and guns to foreign shores and send your sons to slaughter fighting other people's wars. Can you regain the freedoms for which we fought and died? Or don't you have the courage or the faith to stand with pride? And are there no more values for which you will fight to save? Or do you wish your children to live in fear and be a slave?
Oh, sons of the Republic, arise, take a stand, defend the Constitution, the Supreme Law of the land, preserve our great Republic and each God given right, and pray to God to keep the torch of freedom bright. As I awoke, he vanished and missed for once he came. His words were true, we are not free, but we have ourselves to blame.
For even now as tyrants trample each God given right, we only watch him tremble, too afraid to stand and fight. If he stood by your bedside in a dream while you were asleep and wondered what remains of the freedoms he fought to keep, what would be your answer if he called out from the grave, dill the land of the free?
the other guys have done a great job. Go to our deployment page, you will find a notice there also. There are emails that have already gone out immediately in a burst transmission to make sure everybody understands that this is a cancellation of the deployment. We had a little pilot because Don had to take a little time off. He's been under the weather and I'd rather have him go jump in the water for a little therapy for the next day. So what's happening to your end?
Beautiful weather out here in Washington State, as usual this time of year, and things are going very well, sir. Now, we've been having some fun. We're getting ready to break out a whole series of... Yeah, I can't wait. Give everybody, first of all, let everybody know what all you're working on right now. Anything new, by the way, on the Verizon while we're at it with what's going on at your end? Well, we're putting out our custom kits again, FN FAL kits.
They're the best you can get. They're completely refinished, refurbished. They're like new. We take custom orders on them and basically the parts are available on the market today. We'll build them for you. And of course now the thing is that GunPartsGuy.com is where you want to go or your phone number is? 360-906-8369. That's Tuesday through Saturday, 10am to 6pm Pacific Time.
Excellent. And remember that too. Now you're on the Pacific time block, so for a lot of you around the country, of course the good thing about that is we can call later for us. So there's a three hours difference if you're in Eastern Standard Time. And you can answer a lot of questions. I think that's the most important thing we've stressed. We've tried to do this on the air wherever possible, whenever possible. But it is interesting to note that you've been working on these rifles
some time, you're familiar with the systems, and you work on both the metric and the inch, correct? Yes, sir. Uh-huh. Yeah, we carry a full line of parts for the FNFAL. L1A1s these days, the part supply is rather limited. It's a much smaller part of the market, but one thing we tell folks, if you don't see the part on the site, give us a call, and there's some things we sandbag. As we get down to certain levels, we don't list them on the site anymore.
Exactly. Give me a call and we're always here for technical help. You don't have to buy anything to get our help. If you have questions or problems with your FNFAL, just give us a call or email us at gumpartsguyathotmail.com and we'll help you any way we can. Now, you know, an interesting thing there. Now, this we watch, we've watched this happen over the years, especially with the Brits. It's not that the L1A1s aren't out there. In fact, there's two things happening. Number one, the British, they are, they're
They're a selective mercenary crowd in that they will sell to other countries especially third world countries pretty much everything that's in their military surplus industry and they have a whole part of their war department is Obviously part of the admiralty commerce does nothing but market out monitor and restrict who markets what from England now what's funny is is
years ago we saw this with chemical defense protection equipment. They had massive amounts, and I mean tonnage. I talked with several representatives from England, and these guys were so excited because they found that they were going to get into the American market, which is good. We understand how these guys work in trade.
And they had children's gas masks, children's chem suits, they had chem hoods, they had chem capes, all brand new British stuff that had been surplus. Not DX, not demilitarized, but surplus out into the system. They had brand new British defense resuscitators with their, that's their title for gas masks. They had military and civilian models. They had all the decon equipment. They had, you know, go right down the list.
Now I talked to these gentlemen when they were out at one of the trade shows in Salt Lake City and then also when they were in, let's see, it was Las Vegas. And what's interesting is they got back home, immediately their government started to attack and harass them.
Well, I'll tell you what, I'm going to finish this story when we come back because this is tied in with the L1A1 by the way. We'll be back in about three minutes. We've got Jim from the Gun Parts Guy. In fact, he is the Gun Parts Guy. And this is the Intel report on We the People Radio Network. We'll be back in three minutes.
Government is best, which governs least. Wake up and smell the fascism. Being in government means never having to say you're sorry. What part of unconstitutional do you not understand, George? but the September block has been canceled. Buddy and everybody listening, pass this on by email or verbally to all of your friends and allies that are listening right now or that normally would listen. And we'll follow up with a report on that, a sit rep, probably tomorrow, maybe even the next hour. We'll see what happens. Depends on what, whatever in the next few minutes. Inpartsguy.com can pretty well provide everything you need. Now guys, I'm gonna finish up this little story about England and supply, cause this is what happens.
Brits when the guys got back to England the Brits basically grabbed him and said hey you're talking about selling chemical protection equipment you're rid of the saw defensive stuff nobody gets killed with in fact it does just reverse it the defensive technology nobody gets killed by wearing a chem suit or a gas mask but it prevents government from using bug spray on people so to speak
Well, what's interesting is they said, well, yeah, we're going to be selling children's chem suits, children's gas masks. They gave them a whole list because they have to supply it to the ring knockers on the other side. Well, lo and behold, they said, oh, no, no, no, you can't do that. Heaven forbid. No, I'm a little fascinated. But of course, their logic was, you see, that the government can't hold the chemical ordinance and nuclear biological over the population's head.
uh... then we're on an equal standing equal footing especially since we're actually better prepared that most government agencies are the patriot movement is superior in that well what's interesting is not
know, in Jimmie like this, they wouldn't sell to the US, but they could sell to every African, South American, or Asian country on the planet. Well, the same thing happened with the L1A1. It's not that they aren't out there in inventory. It's just that they're, it's from the British end, they don't want to release, and the Belgians, I understand, are doing the same thing. They don't want to release any more of these rifles to the US. They'll release them and sell them on the rental revolution market for a very good price, by the way, to
countries. We're seeing Mexico ending up with a larger number. We're seeing a lot of them show up in the Middle East where the British already sold a large quantity of L1A1s and there are third party and second party countries that are buying both part of the inventory from England and buying it from like Saudi Arabia, countries like that where they still have them in inventory to a degree for strategic reserve. These are beautiful arms. We're talking exclusive weapons aren't they?
Oh yes, the L1A1 specifically, and now we've got to remember that also includes the Australian version which is known as the SLR which is basically identical to the British with mostly with wood furniture, but the parts are completely the same, the rifles are virtually identical, and a lot of them, you're right, a lot of them did come through other countries to get here.
many of them were built by Century onto in-built receivers that were partially converted to inch and that was where a great many of them went and the heyday of the L1A1 kits out there and the parts available was really a few years ago. They're still available, can still be done. You can still get hammer trigger series US compliance sets at fseusa.com. We carry some parts and
you know that the part that we don't carry uh... to give the color email with the venue to the point that they have a much rather you can't really
I really think another thing that's really stopping it also was I think it was about two years ago, Australia was going to put out 27,000 of these SLRs on the market and then their prime minister signed an agreement with the UN and they destroyed every single one of those beautiful rifles. Well that's typical for the Australians, you know, a little sub-note on that one. Friend of mine, his father, in fact I served with the military, his father was in World War II.
He was in the war before the military was in the army. Worked as a medic. Worked as a medic for all five years of the war actually. The South Pacific, and you can imagine what that was like. At the very beginning of the war, of course, the US forces were undergunned. So, Australia, or US gets into war. The Philippines are being invaded. They shoot his division across actually several brigades, several across the southern route. They drop them in Brisbane. No, they went with no small arms.
They had minimal amount of equipment. They had just the uniforms that they had in their backpacks. They'd be dropped on the ground with no support equipment. They find out that there's no weapons available where they got dropped off in Brisbane. So they all of a sudden are informed that the information they have is that the Japanese are going to proceed with an invasion of Brisbane. They are told that they need to dig defenses. So they do. They dig three trench lines, three defense depth, defense and depth trench lines.
He said they had enough barbed wire to put three strands of barbed wire in front of them. Three strands, not three rolls. Strands. And then they found out what they were going to be issued for weapons. Well, you see, in 1927, the idiots in Australia, just like the idiots in England, had a big gun confiscation program put in place. And they cut up and destroyed and dumped in the ocean, all kinds of weapons. But then the Japanese decided that maybe Australia would look like a nice place to plant rice. None of it, anyway.
They're gonna invade. Well now all of a sudden they have no firearms to hand out to anybody hardly at all. Now you gotta remember the Australians have been fighting in Southeast Asia and surrendered. And they've been fighting in North Africa and surrendered a lot. Well they fought, but they surrendered a lot too, so they lost a lot of weapons. Well lo and behold they were so desperate that they started, you know, going to all the shooting clubs and the carnivals and they grabbed everything they could. And teeth a wall too. The friend of mine, he was sitting there now, he was fortunate. Custom 333.
elephant rifle with 20 rounds of ammunition. He said that was the only 20 rounds probably on the continent for all he knew. Okay. The guy next to him had a 22 gallery short rifle pump, pump Winchester. He said a couple of guys had brown best muzzle loaders from, you know, God knows when and the squad automatic weapons for the whole division. Okay. The two belt fed guns they had were maximum machine guns that came out of a world war one museum, you know, commemorative museum.
where they had scavenged a handful of rounds of ammunition, had like five or six belts. That was the whole defense network for that unit to defend Brisbane. They had like seven or nine, let's see, what was it, five inch guns or smaller, no artillery, they had no guns, no artillery, no mortars, two machine guns. And of course then the Japanese, they said, you never heard so many sphincters, you know, creak. As when the Japanese fleet rolled into the harbor, they said they did one big complete circuit of the harbor.
And this was battle wagons, cruisers, the whole nine yards. They turned around and the wagons...
The US Navy and the Battle of the Coral Seas that turned them around and they also stopped them over the trail. They all see them over that trail from the north. Over the home. Yeah, in New Guinea. And that was the turning point right there where they decided they're not going to invade Australia after all. That's right. But the thing is, here are these guys and they were expected to defend with 22 shorts.
muzzle-loading rifles and shotguns. While some guys had following pieces, probably a few of them even had punk guns, which are always entertaining. We can throw rocks at them too, I guess. That's right. Like he said, after the first 20 rounds, it was going to be harsh language because the rifle didn't have a bayonet. So everybody was kind of disheartened by the conditions. And like you said, we're in now for the fact that there were a few other actions that turned the tide all American in influence.
It would have been a very far different situation. And even then, remember the one naval action we had with the last of our, I mean this is the beginning of World War II, the last naval action involved Dutch, let's see, New Guinea, Australian, fish and American cruisers, of course were slaughtered in a series of actions, one after the other, withdrawing back towards Australia, but it bought time.
The battles of Iron Bottom Sound, just north of Guadalcanal, mostly night fighting, and the Japanese really hurt us bad in those first few battles. My father used to tell me because he was under the destroyer escort, he would run the Iron Bottom Sea, they would run that stretch, and he said, for every mile there was a ship mast or a wreck that you could see. Every mile for almost 80 miles in length.
They called that's the slot everybody hears about on television whenever they watch a movie anyway. Hey, what Jim? We're gonna come back in a second. We got more to talk about with the FAO. This is the Intel report We're live and we're on WTP RN. We'll be back in three minutes over 3,000 people converged upon ground zero in New York City The presence was huge, but not reported by the mainstream media. That was them. This is now

People who use Cartavite know about the pollutants in our body and want them out. For over five years, Cartavite has proven itself time-tested. Here's Dr. Mattson, a naturopathic doctor's thoughts on Cartavite. In our mind, there isn't such a great big mystery to disease anymore. This basic tenet of yeast in the gut and metals in the liver covers at least seven to eight percent of the diseases that we've seen. When we do our program, you know, in herbal form is like Cartavite and you see someone who could barely walk up a hill now going for regular jugs.
few months later, we know we're doing something right. It's a well thought out formula. I mean, the idea of it working on the East End metal both at the same time and liver function instead on it, you'll find I think that it'll work more than just on heart problems and circulation problems. It'll work on other problems as well. For more information, call 1-877-928-8822 or visit our website at www.heartdrop.com. That toll free number again, 1-877-827-9.

And ladies and gentlemen, we are back. This is Pass the Bottle, the hour of the first hour of the intel report. It's Weapons Wednesday and we got Jim from the Gun Parts Guy. He is the Gun Parts Guy dot com. And Jim, if you would, give out all your contact information right now. Everybody get your pens ready. While Jim's going to talk, you're going to be writing if you can. Go ahead, Jim. Well, our website is www.gunpartsguy.com.

And we're open from 10 AM to 6 PM, Tuesday through Saturday Pacific time. And I can always be emailed at gunparksguyathotmail.com. And we try to answer all our emails every day.
The great part about that is that again you've got lots of parts, pieces and assemblies available on site. Now you're not an FFL dealer and you don't do transfers. No sir, no we strictly do parts, kits, barrels, everything but transferable items. We don't have an FFL, we don't want one either. Right and there's plenty of good stuff out there. One of the things I have to stress again and for our listeners especially this is Weapons Wednesday. Not that we don't talk about weapons every day on the program but
Firing pen, extractor, and ejector for every one of the weapons that are out there, everybody needs to have them in place. But there are other critical parts. Yeah, there are still parts available in good quantity for these rifles. And so what I would recommend is if you can afford an entire parts kit, it is a good idea because it gives you every spare part. Oh, yeah. That could possibly go wrong. In other words, bent barrel. I know that's not your first, that's your worst nightmare, is a bent barrel. But, you know, things happen in the field. And I cannot stress enough that even weapons get shot.
That's right. So spare parts, you've got pretty much everything. Now, here's the one thing I was going to ask about. The ejector with the FAL, is that done as a rebuild item or is that done as a, I mean, in other words, is that done as a separate aftermarket part right now? Because of the WAMBA?
You can buy them aftermarket, but when you buy a receiver, you are made or if you can find the in-bills around still, they all have the ejector block installed which has the ejector and it also mounts your bolt hold open and your mag release assembly. The problem is that it really has to be done right and if you've got a receiver that needs an ejector block assembly,
Don't just bring it to a gunsmith. Bring it to a gunsmith that is very experienced with finals. If you have something like that, give me a call. I know guys all over the country that are experts in the FN FAL to get you set up with. And that's one of the things I was going to bring up is that, again, with the FAL, it's like any machine. Would you take your Ford to a Chevy dealer? Yep. Would you take your Mercedes to... Not that I have a Mercedes, but...
Would you take a Mercedes to the chamet? The guy who does chamets? No, you wouldn't. You're going to turn around and take it to the right person. Now, here again, because there are people who deal with a machine every day. It's just like any other skilled trade. And being an armorer is a skilled trade. I cannot stress that enough. We need more people who are interested in the idea. A lot of people are interested in machines. We need people to become more competent there. In fact, that's why I'd say you got into that way, didn't you, Jim?
I sure did, and you know that's the beauty of the FN FAL is if you build one, you will be an armorer when you're done.
They're not real difficult, but there's nothing better than to learn a rifle than having all the parts and putting it together and getting it to work. And the more problems you have putting it together, the more you're going to learn. And once you get it down, these things are addictive. I can't tell you how many people who have fouls have a whole bunch of them because none of you have ever built a muscle car or anything. It's like when you're done with it, if you've got this beautiful car sitting in your driveway or your garage and you look at it and go, oh,
It's beautiful, but now I don't have anything left to do. I gotta get another one. I need to find one like that. I need one in red. And then one in blue.
Here you go. Fals are like that and there's so many different variations of the foul. It's really easy to custom make a foul for yourself. Buying the parts a little here, a little there, and making it your own rifle that you're comfortable with. And whatever you do, if you're building any kind of rifle, don't let some other guy sit there and tell you, well, Billant that way is junk, or Billant that way doesn't work, unless they really know what they're talking about. Because it may not work for him, but if it works for you,
and you can put the lead on target and it's accurate enough and it's reliable, that's what matters. Right, you know that's one thing that I will stress again too because one thing about the FAL, there's enough different systems that you can engineer it ergonomically to fit the shooter too, correct?
Oh yes, oh yes. There's different sizes of stocks and butt pads and lengths. It's not like it was a few years ago, and this is something that's real important because of the actions of the UN, our government, and this is Republicans too, that have been restricting the import of these. To give you a good example, when Bush put Gonzo and his Attorney General, one of the first things he did, and this is in effect as of January 1st, 2006,
He, quote unquote, reinterpreted the GCA 68 and said that foul barrels and receivers do not qualify under the sporting purposes clause and he can no longer be imported. Now there are some still being imported but they're coming in with cut barrels.
and it's much more difficult to form sticks and get these imported. It's not the end of FNFL imported kits, but it's severely limited. And if you want to build a foul, you want to get a kit, the time is now. There again, the idea is that spare parts, the barrels included. One of the things is barrel life. These things have a long barrel life to begin with. They're very, very well engineered. Oh, yeah. Top all European metal.
In an FNFAL, a standard barrel, there's basically three kinds of barrels that you can get on the market, not counting by pod cut, not by pod cut and so on. But you have a standard 4140 carbon steel barrel, excellent barrel, you'll get at least 10,000 rounds out of it. Now this doesn't count firing full auto for hours on end, you're gonna burn up a barrel. But in the normal usage, 10,000 rounds is normal.
Now, a U.S.-made chrome molly barrel you should be getting approximately 25 to 30,000 rounds out of, and if you get a chrome-lined barrel, those can last upwards of 60,000 rounds. I was going to say that the chrome-lined barrels at the Fabriq Nationale Der Arms des Gares, the FN plant we're producing, were rated back in 1964, and I've got the Smith-Small Arms did an extensive write-up on this and were awed by the fact that they were looking at a 100,000-round lifespan.
with the out of the factory barrels when they were being produced. Now that's not good for FN if they're trying to sell more barrels. But it's great if you're a third world country and having to buy or if you're a first line country and having to buy a rifle and not having to maintain, you know, have to rebuild things. So that's what we're looking at here. If you can, and I would say this, if you can afford and you should take the money and afford
a chrome-lined barrel with the processes that are being done. These people are on a high learning curve. They've been doing some great work with this. That is an option that needs to be looked at. And then it's one of the many elements of the AK that make it the AK, especially in its original form, that made it so survivable, made it so functional. Oh, yeah. One thing is, too, the great majority of the chrome-lined barrels in the US right now that we have, and we do have a pretty expensive line.
of both US made and import barrels here is their inbel. And inbel's in Brazil, and I'll tell you something, don't think third world country when you think of Brazil manufacturing these days, they really are up on it. And these barrels, what's a really cool thing about the great majority of these also is that they came from Chile. Chile hasn't seen war since they had the fell, so many of them are carried a lot.
and shot little throat erosion at 0 to 1 in the great majority of them. They'll look worn on the outside, but when you get into that barrel and really check it out, you find you've got like a new barrel on the inside. And it's a great thing. So now the big thing there, and that gets to another question, because I know you're seeing a lot of barrels that need to be refinished. Which way are you going with, predominantly with refinishing?
We go with Parkerization with paint over Park. We prefer Teflon Molly. It's a bacon lacquer over the Parkerization. We found that to be the best finish that we've come across that we're able to do. Probably the absolute best finish if you can afford it that you can get is the Metacall 3 finish, which right now the only person in the country that knows authorized to do it because it's an HK finish is Arizona Response System. That's Mark Graham, also known as Gun Plumber.
And that's finished. It's more expensive, but I'll tell you what, that stuff is bulletproof. Once it's in place, it's in place. Yeah, and parkerization is the standard since just before World War II, and the pain over park is an outstanding way to go. Tell you what, we're going to hold right here again. We've got another break. It's the last one for this hour with Jim. If you want, we're going to make call-ins here a few after the break.
And this is the Intel Report Live. We've got the Gun Parts Guide dot com. So three minutes. We'll be back on WTPRN dot com. You can ask some questions.
People who use Cardivite know about the pollutants in our body and want them out. For over five years, Cardivite has proven itself time-tested. Here's Dr. Mattson, a naturopathic doctor's thoughts on Cardivite. In our mind, there isn't such a great big mystery to disease anymore. The basic tenet of yeast in the gut and the metal in the liver covers at least seven to eight percent of the diseases that we see. When we do our program, you know, herbal form is like Cardivite and you see someone who could barely walk up a hill now going for regular jobs.
few months later we know we're doing something right. It's a well thought out formula. I mean the idea of it working on yeast and metals both at the same time and liver function is dead on. You'll find I think that it'll work more than just on heart problems and circulation problems. It'll work on other problems as well. Yes, Mike. I'm doing a constitutional gun sale, but I figure I'd be a medic in the field and I'm looking for like a sidearm that's like effective and somebody told me a 44 Magnum will be most effective. Well, I'll tell you what, 44 Magnum is effective. Jim, I think, yeah, if you hit it, it stays down. Okay, but I would say this, there's an excellent book.
uh... that everybody should recall nine hundred and ninety nine survived at the name of the book it's a little pamphlet not very large called nine hundred and ninety nine survive i'm gonna dig it out and they have to reproduce it could not be available anymore and what this is was an excellent evaluation of survival by pilots and air crews who went down in the pacific theater in world war two and what it discusses his armaments and of course survival skills and what it takes is the basic numbers and information
about performance, what worked, what didn't, what worked better, what may have worked okay, but they could have done something else. One of the things that they brought up was the concept of the, for instance, personal defense. A lot of pilots carried the 45 for the same reason you might want to carry the 44 Magnum, because you want to knock them down and keep them down. However, one of the considerations with air crews that were going out of planes is that, remember, pilots did not want to bail out from an aircraft until the last minute. So almost always,
The numbers basically speak for themselves. About 76% were wounded in some way while evacuating the aircraft. Not because they were shot in the air. Evacuating the aircraft which was usually falling apart around them. When they hit the ground, typically they were injured or the injury was exacerbated. For this reason, the 38th Smith and Wesson Revolver was more comfortable and they were more accurate with it than they were with the 45. Because of the felt recoil.
an arm injury, a shoulder injury, a leg injury. It's something that was, that could not be treated well in the field or at least couldn't be treated for a long period of time. Now, they had to deal with this. The medic, I look at it in the same situation, a combat medic and should, medics should be armed. Okay, I know, but he argued back and forth. Bottom line is that the other side is not going to discriminate. They're going to shoot everybody. The new world order click want to kill us all anyway.
uh... you're dealing with savages you're dealing with monsters you're gonna have to be armed because the animals on the other side are that way for that reason you gotta think about it you're working on a guy you're trying to patch him up whoever's popping up in front of you got past your infantry screen well they're they're going to they're going to get past your infantry screen all of a sudden you had to deal with a problem it's better that you hit it and hit it well then miss it but make a big boom
Okay.
If you're beginning with handguns, what I highly would recommend is like Mark said, is a revolver. If you don't go get the training with a semi-automatic and you don't know how to clear that thing in an emergency and you're not trained, you're gonna get killed. You've got yourself a revolver, it's extremely reliable. My personal recommendation is a .357 Magnum because you can use .38 in it. And it's great to train with that. And the whole thing is, is they hit that target.
A 44 Magnum, it took me several hundred rounds to get really good with it. And a 38 you're going to train a lot quicker. And the big thing is putting the rounds on the target itself in a panic situation. Number one is you're going to be at close quarters.
uh... if you're thinking about the hand gun you're already in trouble and you're also probably here's the thing look at the situation you're dealing with the casualty you got blood on your hands you're already swapped up in some way you're busy thinking in another direction all of a sudden you get a change what you're doing from life-saving delight you know life-threatening situation that that a battlefield like that anyway but it's the idea that you want something a super user-friendly uh... k frames there's all kinds of j frames in k frames out there rossie makes a knockoff stainless steel
uh... the smith and west model sixty five sixty six has been showing up on a police inventories and they're beautiful guns for this mission and your gps are really good uh... political though yes ruegers and they affect remember that they had a military contract run to without air force in effect in the air force uh... when i was uh... crew on p one thirty we were issued uh... that one thirty-eight revolvers
Exactly. So the weapon was more than serviceable. It's a traditional arm, so there's lots of leather, there's lots of holsters all over the place. Speed loaders are available from HSK and a number of other companies as surplus from the police department, so you can get them cheap. And like we were talking about earlier, Jim, like what you said about, you know, they're carried more than they're used. So these parts, they may have a little wear on the outside, but they're brand new on the inside.
Oh yeah. So take advantage of that. That would be the direction to go. Now that doesn't mean the 44 is a bad... I know guys that carried a 44, a pilot, in fact two pilots, carried a 44, carried a 38 issue, carried a Walter PPK in the survival pack, because that's what they had at the time, and he carried a Browning High Power. Now that's a little too many up and... I mean, personally I don't like too many different calibers. Nowadays I just say dump a whole bunch of glocks on me somewhere because they're super light, if you can afford them.
But the problem is cost. So the revolver is still the cheapest solution. It's a user-friendly system. Like Jim said, you pull the trigger. It fails or something happened. You made a mistake and dropped a discharge chamber. Guess what? Pull the trigger again. Click, click, click, boom, plump. There he goes. He's down. Okay, now I recommend reloading now. Slap that cylinder arm real quick. Okay, open the cylinder, pop that thing, and then put the next speed loader, the next six rounds in real quick. Somebody probably is going to come up and visit again.
So, but that would be your best bet. A K frame and any type of Smith or Ruger, there are even Colt, used Colts out there if you prefer a Colt, but I'd go Smith because Smiths are out there in so many numbers or Rugers are out there in so many different places, it's so easy to get parts for. Oh yeah. Okay.
So, 4-4 Magma is pretty reliable as far as like, in proximity, knocking somebody down and keeping them down. Oh yeah, well, plus, if you were looking at a utility, let's say they were looking at a single weapon and they were going in the field and I would say, backpacking. Like what he was talking about doing, Jim was talking about with bear hunting, or with other big game hunting. You make snake charmer loads, they make utility loads for other operations. For the most part, for what you're talking about doing, I would stay within the 38, 357 range.
Lots of inexpensive ammunition, in fact right now. Right now readily available. And lots of spare parts. The biggest thing is you don't have a whole lot of money. I mean nobody's made our money right now. So look at what you can do at the gun shows for out of the grab boxes.
And you know what, if you need a survival gun for bear country, 44 mags, 454 castle, something like that's great, but here's the thing, those follow up shots are so important because when you're really nervous, you're scared.
and you know because i'll tell you that when you're not going to be to a shins he didn't target is not going to be the thinker you don't want to get it either and a follow-up shots are so very important and with a recoil that a forty four man will give you uh... you've been just not going to have time to load up to line up that next shop at the shot of quickly you would would like to run around and it's over important exactly and they have been on the
I carry 45 ACP, I'm concealed carry weapons here in Washington State, so is my wife. My wife carries a 38 and I, depending on my mood of the day, I carry different 45s. I'm a 1911 man from way back. And the nice thing about those, if you learn the automatic, the 45 ACP really isn't that big of a kicker, but it's a good man stopper. And the follow up shots can be pretty doggone quick. And if you want some for that 38? No.
With the 38 what we used to do for years, Jim is taking, do what's called a reverse wadcutter. Remember you've got the one cup base wadcutter. You turn around, you turn a basic wadcutter around, there's a rounded cup in the base that's part of the casting for expansion. You turn that around and load up your 38 special with that with a standard load. If it hits something, it's staying right there with a target but it's opening up to about 50 calibers. Yeah, I know even people that glue BBs in those cups. Yeah.
Yeah, gosh, the people wrote him down. Yeah, and she opens up even... I heard a friendly, you hit the target, it doesn't go through and pop somebody else. There's another basic rule about combat fire, which is watch your backstop. You know, you hit the bad guy, but you hit two friendlies, it's not exactly a good thing. Yeah, a 24 megacross range will most likely, and he's wearing a lot of leather or a vest or something, it's gonna go through him. After knocking him down. Yeah. Even to body armor?
Close range, it depends on level 1 body on a little punch. Level 3, I'm not quite sure, it also depends on how hard the bullet is. If you've got a limo type hardcast bullet, you're probably punch type 2. Level 3 though, you don't have to be point blank for 44 mag or pretty much any pistol to punch that stuff. You're watching that movie 44 minutes, but it's un-fucked.
What do you have those two bank robbers with the AK-47 and a bank with the body armor and those little semi-automatic... Oh yeah, they couldn't find some. Right, well that's a matter of defense though. That's the armor defense itself was effectively reusing multi- they were using more than one vest which I've argued for years is a simple solution. An inexpensive threat level two vest with another vest over top of it. What have you just done to your protection level? So if you're willing to carry a little more weight you got your beef up enough. Do it George, we're gonna let you go. Thank you for the call. Thank you. Your special K frame.
Thank you Jim for being up. We're glad to be here sir. Thank you for having me on your show. And that's again remember we're going to be going to Gun Parts Guy dot com. Did you read this? Chicago just became the murder capital of America. I don't understand. It's been a felony to have a gun since 95. I thought that was supposed to prevent murders. I didn't increase them. Criminals will always find a way to get guns, while the rest of us are just left defenseless. Chicago authorities have seized over 75,000 firearms since 1995. And now, Chicago's murder rate is twice as high as New York City. Tonight, while you're asleep, criminals will be at work.
Not in Kennesaw, Georgia. In 1982, our city passed a law requiring every household to have a gun. It terrified the criminals, and our violent crime rate is now 75% below the national average. We sleep well here in Kennesaw. Americans who own guns prevent over a million violent crimes every year and save lives. Get the facts. Visit armedandsecure.org. That's armedandsecure.org.
